It's always possible with a striker. I reckon its possible Wilson still thinks he should be starting judging by his recent huff-infused performances. And we should never forget that Nicolas Bendner thought he was the best player in the world. In my opinion, it all comes down to wages for DCL. If we could pay him 2nd/3rd striker wages then it's an interesting prospect. After that, if it doesn't work, then sell him to Juventus in January. Happy days.

Yep. I reckon this is an astute observation. Playing one inverted winger and one traditional winger makes us naturally have more width to our setup -- even though we're effectively lopsided with our front three. But it is balanced out again by the nature of our fullbacks and the natural ability Joelinton has to also make overlapping runs from the left side of midfield. It all seems to synergise nicely. We could have both fullbacks overlapping in principle to add the width on both sides with two inverted wingers, but it actually seems to work nicely with one traditional winger in front of a fullback who is more defensively minded to provide cover at the back, and then an inverted winger in front of a more attacking wing back looking to overlap and get crosses in on the other side. There's definitely a good bit of variety to our play and you have to imagine it makes us more difficult to play against when everything is working well to provide each side of the pitch with a different aspect to challenges opposition defenders in different ways. In saying that, I do think we'll be looking to buy a left-footed RW. If nothing else it provides further options to how everything can possibly fit together in a starting XI.

Seems like we have one of the more difficult set of fixtures on paper. Especially that stretch of playing four of the other European candidates with only Ipswich in between. Probably balances out overall considering we have 5 home games and only three away. Plus playing Arsenal in the second last fixture is an advantage since they threw away their title challenge extra early this season. All in all we've played better in big games this season so maybe having big matches to finish the season is a strange sort of advantage in terms of mentality. Probably clutching at straws on that one.

Agreed. I think at RW especially we need to be looking at a long term project player with immense potential. Basically Minteh v.2. As for Murphy, he has done enough to retain his place in the side ahead of whoever we sign at RW. At least initially. His chemistry with Isak is incredible. His gameplan is simple and effective. He executes it very very well with early balls, intelligent movement and hardwork off the ball. For me, he seems a very intelligent and humble person and this seems to provide the platform for him to stick to his gameplan. And it works well with the overall team gameplan. We're in an era where so many wingers won't take on their opponent for fear of losing possession. Murphy isn't that, thank god. And Howe doesn't have a possession first mindset. As a priorirty, he wants his wingers to use the ball not keep the ball. Murphy fits that mould perfectly. Gordon too. Their greatest strength is that they don't fear losing possession. A lot of the credit for that goes to Howe. But also teammates and the individuals themselves deserve a lot of credit for knowing the gameplan and performing their roles within it to facilitate wingers with balls.

I think we have to appreciate that it's late in the season. The players will have a lot of physical and mental fatigue to deal with. They've done the job, got out of sight early and gone into recovery ride mode. It isn't an exciting watch but it is professional. Save the legs and mind for the next one.
