  1. The only way I'd feel confident in a Remain victory is if it was a snap referendum, held within days, no campaigning. Which obviously isn't possible, but you know what I mean. As we saw last time, Leave are an awful lot better at finding points to campaign on that resonate with people - points with minimal actual truth content, but that's irrelevant in a binary vote.
  2. I don't know what you mean. While 650,000 people were marching through London on Saturday in support of a vote on the final deal on the UK's future, Corbyn was... oh, right.
  3. Post-Brexit UK can only dream of having four number one singles.
  4. Brexit mentality in a nutshell. Welcome to our nation's glorious future.
  5. My ring and index fingers are the same length, but they don't look it because my index finger is a bit bent. Ironic really.
  6. Because he's a stupendous idiot, a stupendous liar, or both.
  7. Rail use is German and thus inherently suspicious.
  8. I must be getting soppy in my old age, but aww https://www.nytimes.com/2018/10/17/arts/television/sesame-street-big-bird.html?nytapp=true&smid=nytcore-ios-share
  9. All theoretical of course, but it'd have been interesting to see the power balance within the Cameron-Clegg coalition (which would surely still have been the outcome in 2010, even with people's votes shifting a bit on account of actually, like, mattering and stuff) if there'd been a 3:2 Con-LD split in the number of MPs rather than the 5.5:1 it was under FPTP. Wonder how much more my team ( ) would have managed to get through. Or whether they'd have just ended up buckling anyway.
  10. There's nowt as queeried as folk.
  11. They're the gits that keep on giving.
  12. Still, at least all's well with that whole soft global power thing of ours. https://www.prospectmagazine.co.uk/magazine/foreign-office-brexit-failure-steve-bloomfield
  13. We should just put this one in charge, she seems sane
  14. Lots of interesting stuff in here, I thought: https://www.lrb.co.uk/v40/n19/james-meek/brexit-and-myths-of-englishness
  15. Thank you (and thank you)
  16. I may have failed to make good on this promise. Anyway, the GNR went pretty well, finished just outside 1:57 despite the unexpectedly warm conditions on the day and never really getting up a head of steam because it's so crowded. Royal Parks Half this Sunday for the second part of the challenge - only 15,000 or so runners compared with the GNR's 40k+, so it should be a little more pleasant on that front at least.
  17. But Turkey is joining the EU, remember? Those leaflets we all got said so, so it must be true. Good news for the UK, we'll be readmitted soon enough!
