Because in a moment where player power appears to trump everything, it left a bitter taste in people's mouths to barely hear from him the whole situation, and to see a young local lad leave before we even had a chance to properly enjoy him in a toon top. I know that we have made a bit of a habit of selling our young/promising players to Liverpool stretching a long way back, but is it really a stretch of the imagination to think that some people found it difficult to accept that he left?

True enough, perhaps the Carroll situation may be more indicative of what has already been said: that the business ethic of football no longer has space for sentiment.

Personally, I thought loyalty was well and truly dead in football when (and how) we sold Carroll.

I think Sterling is getting a bit of a rough time of it from the media tbh. Don't know why, perhaps because it looks like he is mugging off perennial media darlings Liverpool. 100k is obviously an astronomical amount. But I don't know if its about that like. Might have just had a look at the Liverpool squad, had a look at the fucking clip of Brenda, and thought 'am I going to reach my potential in this situation? Am I going to win significant trophies here?' Sad to see young players like Barkley and Berahino trying to GTFO as soon as possible after some good form. I just think that its in our footballing culture elevate promising players to 'definite world beaters' often before they hit their twenties. No wonder that they believe their own hype. It's happening with Kane now but seems like he has his feet on the ground.
  5. Harry Kane goal after 73 seconds on the pitch. Will do him a load of confidence for that level. Would love to see him in Champions League and up against quality defences.
  6. Suarez first touch there was incredible. Great finish!
  7. There is absolutely no way they will beat Chelski like. Mourinho has Wenger in his back pocket. Make for an interesting run in though.
  8. Aye I thought Luiz's was immense. Not his biggest fan defensively but what a header and can't deny he's got the bollocks to stand up and be counted when it matters.
  9. Why is the analysis of the Chelsea PSG game completely focused on Chelsea being arseholes/sportsmanship/etc.? They didn't lose the game because they acted like twats, they lost it because they were tactically naive. Came out at the first whistle and they didn't know whether to stick or twist on their away goal lead. Poor team performance, total lack of structural discipline in second half (were repeatedly caught out of position at the back) and anonymous individuals (Oscar, Matic and Fabregas had awful nights) all over the pitch cost them the game, as well as PSG showing great character and heart. Though there is an overriding feeling that it was a good result for football, Souness et al busting their nuts about the state of the British game due to bad sporting behaviour is not the right conversation to be having in relation to why they are now out of the competition. Popular British punditry is shite... yet again.
