1. So good I'm listening to it again again. Patton is the bloke out of Faith No More and Mr Bungle, but it seems to me all the best bits of the album come from the X-Ecutioners. The samples/inspirations mightn't be all that origional (Kung Fu, 2001, Dirty Harry, Deliverance and bad porn for example) but the whole thing is scratcherrifically good.
2. Anyone watching the BAFTAs? I don't want to spoil the ending but all the winners are here... http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/4730718.stm Most disappointed that Kung Fu Hustle didn't get best foreign film. I've hardly seen anything else nominated in any category like
3. The League of Gentlemen Apocalypse - The first 2 series of LOG were brilliant. The christmas special was shit and the third series was bad, but not as bad as peolpe make out. The film IS that bad. It's a clever format (or 'scenario' for you pedants, but definately not a 'genre') and it has some funny moments, but nothing laugh out loud funny at all. The most damning indictment comes from the league themselves, with constant references to the one dimensional nature of Herr Lipp and the paucity of bad puns that have kept him from being funny since he buried Justin. The Assassination of Richard Nixon - Sean Penn is as good as he's ever been as Samuel Bicke, a real life character whose life has been fictionalised into an amalgam of Rupert Pupkin, Travis Bickle and William Foster. Apart from characterisation, a whole lot more is taken from The King of Comedy, Taxi Driver and Falling Down so I'd expect to be telling people to watch those instead, but the fact is TAORN leaves you feeling as uneasy as any of those and as sympathetic to the madman. So I recommend it to anyone who has seen and enjoyed the other three, anyone else should get those first though.
4. On the ball? He should be having a bit snooze in a rocking chair.
5. Vitalic - OK Cowboy DJ Shadow - The Private Press Wilco - Kicking Television Live In Chicago
6. Y'aareet flower, half a lager and lime?
7. Chris Evans' Radio 2 Podcast - Calling it the worst show I've ever heard would be too kind. I'm not one of these people who hated the bloke because he was ginger, I used to love toothbrush but Gordon Bennet! It's total drivell. Worth it for the last 5 minutes with Keith Barret though, he's quality. Shame Evans is such a bad interviewer.
8. The Wedding Crashers Dogshit first 20 minutes, but it gets (slightly) into its swing after that and has some canny funny moments. Probably because that's when Christopher Walken gets on Screen. Lordy, he's a funny man - "Well, the guy wants to run for president, he thinks Moby Dick is a venereal disease"
9. The White Sripes - Black Math(s) a a a a a a a a aaaaaa aaaaaaaaa
10. Both ('The American Friend' and 'Wings of Desire') are only £5.99 at www.blahdvd.com Cheers lads you've just cost me 12 quid.
11. Seem to remember liking the book. I'll have to hunt that out now. Cheers
12. Polish Film Posters are fucked up.... Gremlins Weekend at Bernies War Games ('War' in polish is 'Gay'? ) Alien (and 'Alien' in polish is 'Orgy'? I can't wait for the new blockbuster 'War Alien' ) Labrynth Benji The Fly
13. Apparently he's in The Boys from Brazil with Steve Gutenberg And the Manchurian Candidate remake.
14. I like DJ Format. Is that not what he meant? Nosferatu the Vampyre The one played by Klaus Kinski, not Max Shreck. More watchable than the original, but still plodding and not frightening. Kinski does a spot on impression, but that's the whole problem, it's more a tribute to the original than a film of it's own. Like Gus Van Sant's remake of Psycho you wonder what was the point, other than director vanity. The score is great and it has some great performances in addition to Kinski (a young Bruno Ganz - who a lot of people will recognize as Hitler from Downfall - and Rolond Topor are quality) but if you want to see a version of Nosferatu (which I know you all do) I'd recommend Shadow of the Vampire with Willem Defoe over any of the others.
15. Fulltime Killer I love Hong Kong action. It's every bit as stupid as American action but is well aware of it and takes nothing at all seriously. And films can be stupid as they like if they're this much fun. The final battle within a warehouse as fireworks go off all around is hugely entertaining. And there are constant references to the dumb American movies being parodied to enjoy. I think I even liked this more than The Killer or Hard Boiled which seem to have inspired a lot of the operatic violence. ...and at only £3.99 from CDWOW, it's steal.
16. Blue Velvet - Fucking brilliant. Kundun - Very good. Rebecca - Canny good. Take The Money and Run - Not particularly good, but free, so I can't complain.
17. Never watched it. 92385 I must have been confusing you with Nicos Papavasillou 92389 That dick? Never. I watched Wossy and enjoyed it aye. I was disappointed he didn't highlight much stuff that isn't already widely available and popular here. It being on BBC4 I thought it would dig a bit deeper. Still good like.
18. No, I'm not on a course. Wouldn't mind like. The only film books I've ever read are Easy Riders and Raging Bulls which has no theory, and The Story of film Which is a historic look at how film has progressed. I watch lots of films though. Bit of a geek if I'm honest.
19. If I can enjoy a film on different levels it makes it a better film IMO. Just because it was blatant, didn't make it less valid. And I agree, anyone reading a BOOK about reading movies would be gay. Who does that like? PS - it was a sarky dig ...though I am superior tbh.
