I realise how confusing it is now that I resurrected this old thread from last time we played Fulham at home. Sorry.

The Mag were saying it's now 72 games stretching back to 2011 since we scored from a corner. http://www.themag.co.uk/the-mag-articles/newcastle-uniteds-record-breaking-run-reaches-72-matches/ But OPTA say we did score from a corner last season.. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2311576/Premier-League-corner-conversion-statistics-Manchester-United-best-Newcastle-United-worst.html Anyone know which game OPTA think we got one in?

With 2 clean sheets in 2 games when those 2 have played I'm not currently going to complain about their defensive inadequacy. Especially having conceded 4 in the game before that with Jonas and tiote in full effect, and Marveaux sitting it out. I say that as someone who has worried about it in the past, I worry I may do again with better opponents, but hope Pardew gives opportunity to a less defensive minded approach in future...especially against lesser teams he's been been annoyingly over cautious against.

Get your abacus out then

We have very similar wage bills too. Our most recent wage bill was £64.1m. Everton was £63.4m.

I've totalled all career appearances in first teams anywhere in the world.... For context.... Compared us with Everton. Just as a club that have consistently finished top half without investment. So they have more experience, but it's even more attributable to their 11 players with most appearances under their belt than ours is. Outside of those first 11, our back up players have more experience...and we have more of them too.
-
Not sure average injury lengths are readily available. Got me wondering about total/average first team appearances in a squad, or outside the top 11 players in a squad though. To be continued....

Story is of a £15m bid since he played too though... http://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/335919/EXCLUSIVE-Arsenal-in-15m-bid-for-Newcastle-s-Yohan-Cabaye Goes to show paper talk should all be taken with a pinch of salt and you're best off trying to piece together the facts from what is actually said.
-
Why has Cabaye decided for himself to end his strike, though the window is still open?
-
Rooney's said nowt over a year of speculation. Fergie said he'd put in a transfer request and he said nowt. Last week he refused to put one in to get a move to Chelsea... Suggesting Fergie was a liar there. Bale hasn't said a dickie bird while his saga was ongoing and AVB talked of fining him. Players (or their agents) know better than to say anything publicly. Odemwyngie is the example they know not to follow.
-
Because he wants to sell Cabaye to fund new buys. The soap opera keeps him in the shop window.
-
Because Pardew hadn't picked him. It's quite simple. Pardew picked him on Saturday and he played.
-
He said his head wasn't right didn't he? Maybe he didn't want to build a team and a style around a player that want going to be about.
-
You and CT seem to be struggling with the idea that Pardew may have any say in who he names in his team. It's not something you're even considering. Its not just Ashley or cabaye who can decide.
-
Pardew said he was protecting the player/club. His "no" there doesn't suggest in any way the player is on strike. Just that Pardew is not picking him for the team.... and it's his choice, not one forced on him.
-
Playing when picked seems to fly in the face of any notion of a strike. Surely?
-
I was questioning Cabaye's performances only a few posts ago today. It's not blind love that prompts my view. It's an objective view of the facts that I am aware of. Happy to be corrected.
-
Because it's paper talk. None of which is directly attributable to anyone at the club. As is proven by the lack of quotes. He'd look daft coming out criticising the club for anything Pardew has said.
-
That seems to confirm the view it was Pardew chose not to play him and then put him in when he did.... " I, as the manager, have to protect him" ..for the first couple of games then changes his tune to telling Cabaye he expects him to play against Fulham...which he does, no questions.
-
2J asked for the quotes. Have they been produced?
-
Was saying to a Liverpool fan that came to the west ham game he was lucky Ben arfa was playing as he's the only thing worth paying to see. I think we all love watching the bloke. I also think it's fair enough to scrutinise his performance and application as much as any other player though. Especially if people are criticising other players for wasting Ben arfa's talent, when that sort of thing clearly applies both ways...as in the example Chez gave.
-
Interesting to note we have played less long balls than any other team this season. And that we hit more than every other team last year. And cabaye played more long balls than any other player in our squad last year. Think Anita and sissoko could teach cabaye a thing or two about keeping it simple.

West brom looking to struggle this season without Lukaku?
