It would be churlish to complain about anyone coming in. Apparently he's represented France at U19,U20 and U21 so clearly a prospect. Even if it was the case, necessity often leads to much better results. The shark in Jaws would have been on screen much more given the choice....but because it looked like a floating turd they replaced it with a classic soundtrack and the power of suggestion to make the biggest money spinner of all-time up to that point.

Aside from the no loan policy, the no over 27s policy and the no-one over £50k a week policy, isn't the policy to only have one Premier league standard player for every position and one championship level player as back up? I'm sure Llambias said something along those lines. That we can't afford 22 top quality players. Problem being they see Shola/Cisse as the quality, Ranger and Xisco/Campbell as the back-up.

The Portsmouth comparison someone made earlier seems more apt than Man City or Chelsea. Robinho was a statement of intent. Massive signing following the buyout that said they would pay top dollar for the biggest name players. Remy isn't in the same league. It's a relatively low fee for a lad without much of a reputation on the world stage getting wages the club can't afford.

I mean I have shared it too. Why did Lee Clark go and then pull on an SMB T-shirt? Players like to play at the top level wherever they can and get paid. Mind, he's only scored 16 in 66 career Premier League appearances, so I wouldn't be too downhearted about losing out.

Surprisingly, only one of our last 4 signings have been.

There's no animosity whatsoever between me and the odd mackem I know well enough to go for a pint with. We'll chat reasonably about how each team is getting on with the occasional dig just for a laugh. There are other lads I know though who have a mackem circle of friends and they are constantly on the wind up with each other, straight on their phones, piss taking back and forth when the results come in. I couldn't be arsed with the effort of that sort of "banter". I'm sure finishing above the mackems means more to them than it does me.

I'm more interested in finishing above West Ham/Villa at the moment. They're our competition who I currently dislike above all others...and for reasons to do with what they have recently done to NUFC. SAFC have not done anything noteworthy to annoy a Newcastle fan since 1990.
