  1. Where would we value him as a midfield enforcer or whatever his current role is? Let's say that his value as a striker is more in the £5-£10 range. £20m?
  2. What actually is the problem over there now? Are they struggling to spend money because of the FFP restrictions or does their new owner simply not care very much? Looks like the playoffs again this season.
  3. I think if this picture turns out to come true, we'll be home free as far as relegation is concerned.
  4. Was just having a scan through one of the Everton forums and came across this amazing post when our second went in Presumably some manner of swear filter on there... [Poor language removed] [Poor language removed] TEAM [Poor language removed] [Poor language removed] MANAGER EVERTON ARE [Poor language removed] [Poor language removed] CRAP [Poor language removed] THEM WE’RE GOING DOWN

    Apologies

I spend most of my life mulling over that particular topic tbf
  6. https://www.theguardian.com/football/2022/feb/08/newcastle-everton-premier-league-match-report Louise Taylor is fucking livid A match report on how Everton lost rather than how we won, calling out the fans for targeting Pickford, and ASM the only worthwhile mention from our side.
  7. Trippier is such an utterly ridiculous step up on anything I've seen from a Newcastle defensive line up in the past 10 years that I can't quite believe we've got him. He's going to be fucking central to where we go as a club in the next few years. ASM also superb, so many good balls in, so many chances created out of very little. Just... idk man, a Newcastle team with some genuine joy and optimism around it, it's almost too much to take after all these years of dross.

I'm curious tbh, what was the J69 flounce?
  9. 38k of them apparently turned up. Opened the concourse for it, an extra 10k turning up versus usual - all to see Jermain Defoe. The returning hero. Substituted on with 15 mins to go, touched the ball once. Totally worth it.

What I don't get about him though, is that he was anti-Ashley, right? Like, that was his whole thing? I'm struggling to imagine he had a hard time getting people to agree with him.

That's interesting to read through tbh - I honestly think in the end that most good people can police themselves in a socially acceptable way 99% of the time without rules and moderation. When they fall over, you have a discussion with them to bring them back around. It does leave things open to abuse a bit from some of the trolls out there, but it's not really been that disruptive to the place over the years from what I've seen. Tbh I sometimes regret that I missed the Leazes era, it sounds hysterical in some ways that a single poster was able to wind up this much of the forum for such a period of time.
  12. Wasn't a private school ffs. St Cuthberts?
  13. Very common problem tbh - what that response basically says is "I'm not going to own this bad decision I made, so instead I'm going to pretend that no decision would have changed anything at all rather than accept that I made a mistake".
  14. Off the back of the dismal effort from May too.
  15. We just don't get it because we're not "rational" - "rational" people can see the arguments for Eugenics, Brexit, breaking lockdown protocols by driving in order to test your eyes, screaming at MPs on the steps of Westminster, live tweeting about political scandals unfolding like a giddy infant on Christmas day, etc. These are things "rational" people understand, and we mere mortals, irrational as we are, just can't see the greater truth.
  16. I had no idea what their policies were and was so unengaged that I'm not totally sure I had much of a concept of 'Labour' at that point. But at an all boys school it was all about fake bravado and the Tories were where that was at. Don't worry, I was quickly disabused of it and have never actually voted for them
  17. I have become really suspicious of the word 'genius' in general tbh. No genius is out there mixed up in politics ffs. They're all working for NASA or scientific research, not getting into bed with Boris Johnson to do one of the most illogical and irrational things this country has managed. Cummings was and is entirely motivated by the giant chip on his shoulder.
  18. Have a very low opinion of Cummings but am completely prepared to believe everything he's set out there since it's so in character for Johnson. Lying to everyone in order to prevent competent power circles forming around him. That's Johnson's time in politics in a single sentence if I ever saw it.
  19. So another thing that modern politics has managed to identify and shit all over. I recall some discourse during Brexit around the idea that much of the UK political setup relies on people acting honourably, and that chancers like Johnson are a real threat because of it.
  20. Indeed I did not I was even leaning Tory back at that stage. Right up until I mentioned it to my dad and was saved by a "no son of mine.." speech. I was, and frankly still am, clueless.
  21. What is this nonsense about parliamentary privilege btw. It seems to mean "We can say anything we fucking want with no accountability for it being truthful, and we're protected from accusations of slander because we said it in parliament".
  22. Have reflected and agree with the more nuanced take. Hard to feel sorry for him, especially as a blue checkmark as Andrew says. But also idk, at some point people stop being extensions of the company they work for. Or at least they should.
  23. He's deleted whatever the original tweet was, what happened? Looks like cancel culture in full swing, love to see it
