Canny for tribute bands too. Only pub where I literally got the 'Did you spill my pint?' treatment.

Aye. Vastly overrated in my opinion. Good story behind it though. Got good reviews, it's not another Appolo 13 type of film is it? i.e shite I liked Moon. Haven't watched it properly really as I was on a plane but will watch it again. Interesting plot and well directed by Zowie. Saw Harry Brown last night. It was like a feature length episode of the Bill. utter horse plop and compares very unfavourably with Gran Turisomo. 4/10.

But everything I've read about the AE says there is no safe escape route once you have descended the first chimney from Am Bodach (which is basically the start on the East-West route). It's the very fact that it is so committing that I find so frightening - onwards or die basically. Maybe I should consider a guide, but I like to be a free agent on the hills.

In general businesses has moved to India so they can use cheap employment, rather than avoid UK taxes, wouldn't you agree? So how would you stem this, by reducing the national wage to that of an average Indian? Please enlighten me. Under the last Labour government taxes have been very competitive with the rest of the Western world, whatever the Daily Mail might tell you. Also, didn't the Conservatives plan to levy non-doms as part of their manifesto? Not that I am necessarily against this, but it leaves your argument in as much tatters as your understanding of your payslip. Your fine with the 9 guys and a business sector goes to the pub, but not the reference to India. Feel free to change it to '10 goes out of business because the state bailed out banks wont lend any money at less than 18% APR' Regarding outsource, the issue has never been solely about cost savings. We are losing businesses because they have no reason to stay. I mentioned increasing the broadband speed to 1GB. This would create a media sector businesses would flock too. What? Are you seriously using this story as any kind of useful analogy? Why don't you give me some proper facts instead. Anyway, your chosen party is in power now so any problems are solved, aren't they? Here's a fact. Labour spent more on debt interest last year than the entire police force. Explain that logic please. Global recession. Next.

I know this is off topic a bit but has anyone here done the Aonach Eagach in Glen Coe? It's become something of an obsession of mine if I'm honest, I'm trying to pluck up the courage to do it one day (without a guide or a rope). Any lurkers perhaps? I'll also have the opportunity to try Liathach this summer weather and courage permitting.

What is the relevance of this particular cut and paste then Chistmas Tree?

Edit: check out this link which shows that far from being overtaxed in this country, we are way below the Western average and all thing considered we are taxed less than the USA.

Aye, the second photo is looking at Cofa pike, the third is Grisedale tarn on the right, and the last is looking up to St Sunday Crag. You need a GPS.

Nowhere Boy - biopic of John Lennon's early life, where he seems to have an Oedipus stylee attraction to his Mum - very uncomfortable viewing. Not recommended by me at least - 5/10.

Fairfield is impossible to navigate in the clag like, mind, that is one hell of a blunder nonetheless! I don't think that's a photo of the summit of St Sunday crag though whatever Googles says. The summit is actually quite smooth and whalebacked , with an indistinct top with no cairn iirc. That looks like it could be pinnacle ridge which leads ot the summit from Grisedale. You don't need me to tell you that descending straight into the valleys when you're lost is very dangerous, I'm sure. Lucky to get back in one piece never mind short of a few quid.

I don't accept that the term 'progressive' is a buzz word at all. The first definition I Googled stated that Progressive means 'Favoring improvement, change, progress, or reform, especially in a political context; -- used of people. Contrasted with conservative'. Note the last bit, the Conservatives cannot be termed progressive by definition. Labour has historically always been progressive, bringing in institutions like the Welfare state and the NHS, and in general supporting the rights of minority groups, such as gay rights (there are plenty of homophobes left in the tory party like Chris Grayling, for instance). In general, the Conservatives have tried to slow or block significant change, as their name suggests. This might not always be a bad thing but its perfectly fair to acknowledge there is a difference in philosophy between the two major parties - if not then perhap the tories should change their name. It all ties in with the Conservatives being the party that supports inherited privilege as well. They want to keep the status quo or even reverse back to previous times where the landed gentry ruled us. Just self preservation really, to keep the oiks in their place. It's not always that straight forward of course, Thatcher was something else entirely, very possibly the spawn of satan. BUt my point stands I think.

Yes, so even if the coalition dissolves, no-one can vote out the resultant Conservative government, even though it would be a minority government. Such a government would be paralysed, as it would struggle to pass any legislation, but at the same time it couldn't be voted out either - so it would be a so-called Zombie government. This isn't a mundane point, it's fundamentally unconstitutional and wrong, and does not serve the interests of our country. The fact that the ConDems have even thought about bringing this in should be of concern no matter what your political affiliation is.

Regularly see mountain bikers carrying their bikes up the fells - Hellvelyn, High Street etc. The mad bastards, as if walking up them isn't knackering enough.

Jack's Rake is fantastic. as close to a real climb as it gets - but apart from the dodgy bit in the middle its remarkably unexposed to the drop I got to the base of it at Easter after walking from Grasmere, but gave it a miss because by this time my hands had lost all sensation in the bitter cold. I then proceeded to get lost on the moors behind the Langdale pikes and was shattered by the time I got back - I'm investing in a GPS system asap. Definitely on the list to do mind.

Daaaahling, was the Montrachet to die for? Tweedies is bog standard anyway. Still haven't got round to contacting your friends btw MF, not had time, hopefully will later in the year. Features in the coveted Michelin recommended good pud food guide Camra pub of the year Is there actually any subject that you dont talk complete bollocks about. I was there at Easter so I'm talking from recent personal experience. It's OK but not special, better than the Lamb Inn which is rubbish, but nowhere near as good as the Swan Hotel up the road. All opinions at the end of the day but its difficult to see how it deserves your pompous description. You're clearly feeling rattled btw, perhaps you need another break dear, as the last one doesn't seem to have worked. So in a few hours its moved from BOG STANDARD to OK Now see you could have just said that in the first place rather than trying to be a little smarty pants. Did you not see the wink? Wind your neck in man, I'm using economy bait here. Glad you enjoyed your trip. I'm off to Keswick the weekend after next, can't wait to be on the Hills again.

Also I'll add that these awards are dubious in my experience to say the least, been in some awful 'award winning' pubs and restaurants before.

That story just about sums up Mr 'I know about politics' Christmas Tree. Its as old as him and about as funny as well.

They campaigned on electoral fairness though didn't they, and this could hardly be further from that. I am honestly disappointed by their 'cynicism', I had thought they might represent something better than this . Glad the truth is out in the open now though, they'll get little sympathy from me and millions of others at the next election.
-
Reducing PM questions is equivalent to this is it? Righto. This is quite simply indefensible, don't let that stop you trying though.
-
Which has been the case in all the elections that have resulted in a majority government... What type of circular logic is this?
-
Callaghan's government was toppled by literally one (the +1) vote, wasn't it? So had this rule been in place it would have survived and perhaps history would have been different. You can't just chop and change centuries old constitution because it suits you Craig. Well, actually, apparently you can, and it stinks to Hell. Had Labour done this, I can only imagine the outcry from the press and opposition.

Horse plop and contradictory argument there. On the one hand you're saying that it doesn't make much difference, and on the other hand you're saying we will have a vote of no confidence every 5 minutes without it. Hardly inspires confidence in the coalition does it? What other systems have is irrelevant, tell me, where do you think the tories plucked the figure of 55% from? 50%+1 makes perfect sense but this means now the tories can rule unopposed no matter what happens - handy eh? Even some tories are cringing over this and its's frankly highly disturbing if it's a sign of things to come. The Liberals campaigned on a ticket of electoral fairness and in one fell swoop they have undone hundreds of years of unwritten parliamentary constitution to virtually guarantee them and their new best friends the tories an unchallengeable government for the next half decade! Honestly, it's hilarious listening to people try and defend this, most of all so-called Liberals.
