Bit melodramatic in that last paragraph. I don't think he's just holding out for the money, I think he genuinely believes he can get us playing better. You saw for yourself in his MOTD interview - "I believe I am getting the absolute best out of the players that I have available to me". As for ill-gotten gains, thanks to Shepherd it's money that he's contractually entitled to. 83708 I thought Chops's post was a bit more melodramatic personally. I refuse to believe Souness can believe he is getting the best out of his players - the trouble is everything Souness says now seems to be taking the piss. You're right that he is contractually entitled to his money thanks to Shepherd's gross incompetence in drafting his contract, but as a person I believe he is morally bankrupt taking it. In any other walk of life, he would have been sacked with no compensation long ago. For the life of me, I don't know why Shepherd didn't specify some minimum milestones in his contract - Souness was not in a position to negotiate given he was days away from being sacked by Blackburn. As I said, the whole thing is a mess, and a predictable and avoidable mess at that.
-
Maybe it seems worse now because it was all so avoidable this time - the setup and the money was there and we have pissed it all away and for what? Personally for me it has been horrible because I knew it was coming and said so, even when I was mocked for my beliefs. As for hating Souness, well I now detest the man. He is clearly just holding out for the money, the man has no honour and no shame. I wouldn't normally ever wish ill on a fellow human being, but put it this way, what comes around goes around, and if there is any justice in this world he won't enjoy his ill-gotten gains.

Who the hell's Duncan MacKenzie like? It never did get better. And winning the league has never seemed further away than today.
-
Only reason he wasn't able to go on loan was because Queen of the South went out of some cup or other early and couldn't afford the wage payments. Difficult to judge what he's like as a footballer so far but from what I've seen, I have never seen anyone move so quickly over the turf. 83463 Weren't Carlisle interested in extending his loan spell as well? I still find it amazing that we rather play players totally out of position than giving players who can offer us natural width and the pace we are definitely lacking a chance. The worst was the game against Mansfield. There was the choice between O'Brien and Brittain. A left and a right winger. But the tosser decided that against the giants of Mansfield it would be better to deploy a right winger on the left wing... 83466 But there's no such thing as wingers though, is there?

Well if they did I'd like to know why. And he's doing OK at Luton so far. 83455 They hated him because the team we're running away with the league and just scraped promotion, he fell out with most of the team, sold some of the best players, and was a pisshead and a womaniser of epic proprtions, not really setting an example is it? 83459 Well that's fair enough then! But at least he's honest. -
We've got to play him at the mackem match in the hope he scores....

Another Shearer appointment then? 83442 I've said for a while that Newell and Shearer might actually be a good outfit, but people always dismiss this, without telling me why Newell would be such a terrible choice. And yes, you get all these allegations about him having a drinking problem with seemingly nothing to back it up at all but hearsay and tittle tattle. So come on people (not necessarily you Alex), where's the hard evidence? Of course, Newell can never come to SJP now, because he's proven himself to not be corrupt, so I wouldn't worry about it anyway. -
Hmm, we still had the likes of Given, Boumsong, Babayaro, Solano, Luque and Shearer in the team. Are we allowed to play with 14 players? I hate the drivel the tossers are coming up with. They are either completely out of touch with the public opinion or just taking the piss. 83394 Did you think of this point yourself Isegrim, or did you get it from .com? I only ask because I wouldn't put it past them reading it and putting it in their latest news article. Incidentally, I thought the recent article on .com following the game was excellent - pity it has come so late and Niall and Biffa didn't condemn Souness a bit sooner though.
-
I'm surprised Gullit's is worse. I know leading up to the cup final we went about 10 games without a win (or maybe it was one win in ten or similar) but I think we drew most of those games and we were already guarenteed Premiership survival and had little to play apart from the FA Cup. It's got that bad (in relative terms)I'm defending Gullit! 83421 He lost 6/7 next season though. I'm surprised Dalglish isn't higher considering he got 2nd in his first half-season. 54% for Keegan also strikes me as low......
-
He'll be issueing a statement later, as soon as he gets back from the bookies. 83412 Is he betting on his dismissal?

I can't for the life of me think how it will be any worse that what is happening at the moment. Since Souness arrived he has taken a team that was playing poorly and turned them into a bunch of players that just go onto the field each game going through the motions without having any clear plan of they should be doing and not caring at all. I know it's a poor idea to sack a manager without having a replacement lined up but the unfortunate fact is that we have waited too long and he is harming us with his very presence. If nothing else installing Roder and Pedro as caretakers might get the fans behind the team because the current air or apathy and indiference will count against us if we do get involved with a relegation battle with the likes of West Brom, Birmingham and Portsmouth because their fans are at least fully behind their teams. 83369 I agree entirely DK, each day Souness remains here the club is being damaged further. I never thought I could hate a manager more than Gullit - I was completely wrong. Incidentally, has anyone heard what McDermott has to say about the situation? What exactly does he do?
-
I agree like, when it was going tits up under Robson there was a lot of shit directed at Carver, saying he had no pedigree (woof!) and questioning whether he was good enough. 83383 Perhaps it is fickle, but hindsight truly is a wonderful thing sometimes. I think it's a case of "you don't know what you've got until it's gone" really. He'd be mad to leave Leeds and come back obviously, but I was just pointing out its a shame we got rid of him to make way for the posse of useless wankers.
-
I was listening to talk shite yestersay and they had an interview with the evil Santa Clause (aka Ken Bates). He talked briefly about John Carver, and what an excellent coach he was, and attributed much of Leeds recent success on this man. He said he couldn't understand why Newcastle would sack such an excellent coach, and that our loss was Leeds' gain. Here is a bit more info from an old Leeds article, where he talks about man management and getting the best form players. How we could do with Carver now, it sickens me that we got rid of Carver so Souness could bring all his wankers in instead. He would have made a perfect acting manager while we looked for a replacement for Souness. As it is we haven't got a half-decent coach at the club.

Funny really, I was just adding a fairly qualified candidate and thinking outside the usual suspects... I'm not saying he'd be my first choice tbh....my heart says Keegan could give us a 3 or 4 month lift....enough to get us into Europe...after that who knows. 83142 No-one can get this team into Europe now, forget it, it's gone. Avoiding relegation should be our priority and I'm not sure Souness is capable of doing that. -
Looking increasingly like a panic buy. I can understand peole wanting to give him the benefit of the doubt, but my gut instinct is that Leazes Mag is right. Can't see him being here next season tbh. However, I would like to see him under a new manager before I objectively make my mind up.
-
tbh 82962 I don't follow this post. Are you highlighting the ones you don't think are good enough? By implication, are you happy with Luque, half of Owen, Babyaro, Carr and a Turkish midfielder who never plays? Odd.

I agree that tactically he seems fairly astute tactically, and that is something we have been seriously lacking with Souness, but we need so much more than that. Also, he wouldn't even work in the short-term, because Shearer hates him and his dodgy methods (faith-healers etc). And rightly so as the man himself would say. I don't think putting some other terrible candidates up as possible choices of Shepherd is a good argument to support Hoddle tbh. I also don't think those appointments are going to happen - surely Shepherd isn't that stupid. -

We are a big club in the most important aspects - fan-base and support, revenue, etc. Don't forget that before Souness we also got Dalglish, Gullit and Robson, who are/were undeniably big name managers. The timing and manner of Robson's dismissal is why we ended up with Souness, and this is all down to Shepherd and the board. The best we can hope for now I think is someone who can stabilise us and avoid relegation in the short-term, with a plan for a long-term change of manager in the summer. I have no confidence Shepherd will do this successfully though. -

Fuck off. The worst choice imaginable. 82935 Ah...the intelligent banter of the mighty Renton. Maybe they should ask you to do it? 82943 No, a moronic suggestion from you AF, what a surprise. What's Hoddle done in his managerial career to deserve the job? He's a complete loony who even manged to lose the England dressing room for God's sake. He would be an absolute disaster here. -

Dear God, no! Graham is just another dour, unimaginative version of Souness and as for "El Tel", words fail to describe the utter horror I would feel if he was appointed. 82909 I think they're just a case of "anyone but Roeder". Seriously though, anyone who could take a side consisting of James, Repka, Sinclair, Cole, Defoe, Kanoute & Di Canio into the First Division would be a disaster waiting to happen here. 82910 And what is this compared to someone capable of taking a team with Given, Babayaro, Boumsong, Bowyer, Solano, Shearer, Luque* into a serious relegation fight... * note that I did not include injured players 82913 Six and two-threes tbh. 82914 Well I just got back from a drinking night. I try to decipher it in a couple of hours... 82916 He means they're much of a muchness (i.e. both the same) my drunken German friend! Personally I disagree and believe Roeder would be a huge improvement over Souness in the short term. He did OK with West Ham initially, and it has to be remembered West Ham were unlucky to be relegated that year with 42 points - a total that looks increasingly beyond us. Then again, I think anyone would be an improvement. When Souness said at the start of his tenure he didn't believe in tactics, I didn't know he meant it literally. No manager would be a huge improvement now tbh. -
Difficult one. Linky.

The amount of CO2 emitted is far more then the others. The 2 key gasses in geenhouse effects in order are CO2 then CH4. The CH4 is easier to eliminate as by burning it to CO2 you make it 23x less damaging. THe big thing about global warming is we cant prove it exists until its too late basically. So we may be wasting aload of time and effort in trying to prevent a non existant thing but if we don't we could all be in a far worse situation. I'll have a look for the data, but so far i can only find stuff from about 5 years ago. Google about China and ISO14001. The germans are shit hot on these environmental systems aswell (EMAS and ISO14001) 82368 Well, I agree with that, especially about the "should we act?" conundrum. Trouble is I suspect the powers that matter have already made their minds up on that one....

You seem to have missed the point in your studies - we are talking about an accumulation of gases over time, a graph that keeps going upwards. The 1960s are towards the bottom of that line, their output of gas is not really relevant. Besides, with the emergence of China and India as industrial soceities, and the continued high consumption fossil fuels by the Americans, emissions are at an all time high. You describe it as a blip, well blips happen but that doesn't alter the trend. As it happens, almost every meteorlogical record known has been broken in recent years. Also, I don't accept it has anything to do with the sun unless you can provide solid evidence of this. 82322 The time line of temperatures on my studies starts at thousands of years ago with predictions taken for ice cap drillings. The 60s are an anomoly with no explaination. We only have good accurate recordings for the past century and better still the past 50 years. These do fall within the error readings placed on the predictions from thousands of years ago. That is why there is no proof, if you look at the long time scale we are at the moment in a "blip" an anti ice age if you will. The gases (the most damaging ones C1-C4 hydrocarbons (methane is 24x worse per tonne then CO2, with the others worse again still) do slowly degrade over time. You seem to have missed the point. THe fossil fuels being burned now are no where near as bad as those from the 60's and 70's. While we may be burning more they are pumping less damaging shite into the atmosphere then those of 30-40 years ago. A factory from that era would not be allowed to operate pretty much anywhere in the world now. China certainly and India to lesser extent have green technologies and are infact better in that then the majority of British ones as they have already met the likes of the ISO14001 standards for environmental management as they believe (probably rightly) that if they didn't they would face a mass ban on importing thier goods from western countries due to a large environmental load. As for all records being broken, that works both ways. Hot and COLD. The weather is becoming more extreme our systems more robust and accurate statistically speaking you expect a really hot/cold time every 100 years or so... Rob, As for BP supporting it, its what the public wants to hear so it makes both good PR and marketing sense. I do agree that it exists, i never once said i didnt think it was. All i said was the doomsday scenarios being predicted are little more then scaremongering by the press, which lets be honest is what they do best. 82344 Good post Rikko, some stuff I was unaware of there, particularly regarding India and China, who I thought had little if no regulations (I'd love a link). Isn't China opening up an average of one coal-burning power station a week though? Do they really have the technology and will to extract the more damaging gasses? Regarding the non-CO2 green house gasses, I have a query. I agree they have a greater effect molecule by molecule than CO2, but how abundant are they in comparison? If CO2 is relatively insignificant as you imply, then I confess I have been misled by vitually everything I have read on the matter and I'll shut up. Anyway, there are so many variable to consider I doubt any of us can have much of an educated opinion on it. There is global dimming for instance, which paradoxically may be protecting us from the worst of global warming - a protection that will be lost if we clean the Skys like SpongeBob suggested. I guess we'll find out in the next few decades....
