Waking up at 5 to leave for work at 7.30 is madness! What time do you go to bed? I wake up at 7.15, get up for 7.30, leave for work at 7.50, and get there for 8.30ish if all goes well. I'm always tired because I go to be too late though. 85037 Twenty minutes to shower, shit, shave, eat beakfast, get dressed etc? Are you sure? My routine takes an hour and ten minutes. 85040 Yeah, easy. I shower the night before, don't usually shit, shave in 3 minutes (brush teeth/wash face in maybe another 5), and don't eat breakfast (maybe a cup of tea made by Mrs Renton). I wear jeans and a T-shirt and have packed my bag the previous night. In fact 20 minutes is too much - I usually get to watch the news for 5 minutes.

Can anyone spot a problem there?

To be honest I think Gemmill would make a very similar Chairman to Shepherd. Clued up financially, but clueless about football!

84976 Alot of truth in that and don't forget the media who are just as bad. Prime example being MMR, one bloke said there was a link to autism, thousand of scientists and doctors said otherwise and pointed to the evidence and explained that diseases previously erradictaed would return, but parents ("helped" by the media) panicked as is the norm and left the children at risk and it turns out the bloke was a lying imbecile anyway! And then "frankenstein foods" the medias favourite term for genetically modified crops a subject about which they know absolutely fuck all but feel free to ruin any chance of looking into it and testing it sensibly under controlled conditons by people who actually know what they're doing. 84983 I agree entirely. Coincidentally, there's a documentary tonight on intelligent design (Horizon, BBC 2, 9pm) that sounds worth watching. I think it deals with the issue of faith schools too.

What about Las Vegas? Jealous Yank tbh! 84910 Jealous of what? I can go skiing whenever I'd like. 84965 In fact, if you go out anywhere you haven't got much of a choice.... -
Let's be honest, the majority of the British public are pretty ignorant about all things scientific anyway. However, according to that article, it may be something that is improving rather than worsening, as it's older folk who tend not to believe in evolution:

Are you asking me if Ljunberg is a pitcher or catcher, or which I am? I think my wife would say I'm the pitcher....

It makes a change for someone to recognise the fact that we at least are trying to compete. I agree about his PR gaffes, but don't agree the old era is "a bygone age". It may be for us [or has been] because we moved forward, it isn't a bygone age for clubs like the mackems who didn't move on, however we could easily slip back into the way we used to be...just think how many of us would have entertained the thought 2 years ago we would be in a relegation fight ... I agree that Shepherd inherited a well run club, but he's kept it that way ! I still can't accept that players not performing on the field are anyone elses fault other than the team manager, and the most the chairman can do is appoint someone with a winning record and back him 100%, and tbh can't see how anyone can say that players not performing is anyone elses fault other than the managers', when he has been allowed to do what he wants. Now, we are all mostly agreed that Souness should go now, even Gemmill can now see he was wrong, so do you think Shepherd isn't making the move because he hasn't got the man he wants, is leaving the manager in because the players do support him, or because he can't get the money to pay him off ? In the event of these scenarios, rather than slag him off later if things go badly, what would YOU do to counteract these problems ? [thats for anyone BTW because I know you think like me Souness should have gone, in fact if it had been up to me I'd have brought Robert back and flogged Luque to get the money to pay Souness off] 84947 OK, starting from a clean slate now, I'd demote Souness and try and get him to resign by humiliating him as much as possible in the press (this is already happening). If there is no way of getting rid I would sack him - either I would try to come up with a mutually beneficial agreement or I'd just continue paying his wages, rather than give him a lump sum. Anyway, the point is I would get shot of him NOW, as he is obviously a negative influence on our performances. After getting shot, I would get a caretaker in to see us through to the end of the season. I firmly believe that there are stacks of candidates who could see us through the short term without getting us relegated. In the meantime, I would spend my time ensuring we get a top class manager in after the world cup. O'Neill would be my choice, but everyone has their opinion. In this respect money would be no object, because the manager is easily the most important staff member of the club. I have to say though, that Shepherd will find it hard to get a decent manager, because he has damaged his reputation very badly, especially during the Robson debacle. I'm not sure how many top managers will want to come here with him in charge. I'm afraid I don't have an answer for that one...

no health service, no vote, no alcohol at home without a police permit, closes down in Ramadan, 50C in summer, dust storms, limited freedom of speech, few women you pay for EVERYTHING - 84937 Fuck that, I'm staying put! -
I'm sure that last sentence is bollocks like Gemmill. Obviously YOU just got the standard "we can't be arsed to remember who he is" type letter. 84899 The company I worked for in both the US and over here did that with their references for exactly that reason. You weren't allowed to give personal references for people that made reference to your position within the company because they didn't want their name attributed to it for the reasons I've given. FACT! And you don't get to be in the lofty position I hold in the financial world by being the bloke no one remembers. 84914 Usually I've been allowed to see my references, and they have gone into details about honesty, being hard-working etc. Infact usually, my references have been so good I suspected they had the wrong person! Admittedly, I have never worked for a big accountancy firm like. But I'm fairly sure a person's ex-company could not be held responsible for the future conduct of their ex-employee mind. For the record S-O, it is highly unusual for someone to give an actively "bad" reference. It's what they don't say that matters in my experience, although Gemmill obviously disagrees.....

I feel the need for an Oscar style speech coming on.

You can see the Burj in the backgroud. Did anyone see the recent series, Dubai dreams? The city is growing faster than anywhere has before. It will shortly have the world's tallest tower, at over 800 metres I believe. Amazing indeed. -
Shah her tbh.

Would that be with the benefit of foresight or hindsight?

Personally I would credit John Hall for turning us into a big club from a sleeping giant; it has almost nothing to do with Shepherd. Shepherd has reinvested a lot of the club's money (not his own or ours), but overall to very little effect. If you judge him on results, which surely you should, he has been a complete failure. And this is before you take into account his horrendous PR gaffs and the fact he awards himself a salary and dividend far in excess what is considered justifiable by most experts. Leazesmag, time and time again you use the argument that we have had worse chairmen in the past as an argument to support Shepherd. Football was in a different era then, it's a bygone age, and as such it is entirely irrelevant. Why don't you compare Shepherd's performance to the other big clubs like ManU, Arsenal or Liverpool? This is where we should be because of our support, and whatever you say, that support does not exist because of Shepherd.

Who are they? Is the one on the left Ljunberg?

Exactly. Mind I wonder if it would be possible for us to play against an "England" 11, and get it televised on Sky? Ker-ching! -

No - it'll be like playing s scots team - a town full of drunken VIOLENT people with unintelligible accents 84681 More shite coming from you Rob, i am surprised... 84774 Drink and Scots are rather........... close............. 84815 Fucking hell, have you actually been out in Newcastle at the weekend lately? Talk about pots and kettles - nobody drinks like the geordies do, not that that is always a bad thing mind. Edit: Oh, and my guess is Scottish Mag was more pissed of about you shouting "violent". Once again, English fans have the upper hand in that respect as well you know. -
Well Ok then, I'll have to tell you a true story that happened to me today. I was walking past SJP when I saw Freddie Shepherd shaking hands with none other than Otmar Hitzfeld. There were smiles all round when I noticed two of these were smiles were on the faces of Thierry Henry and John Terry. Then I heard Bobby Robson saying he was honoured to being made club president, and how the £10 billion pounds the mysterious Geordie altruist had invested into the club would go to superb use, including comfy seats and free beer for life for all ST holders. Etc, etc.....

Erm, isn't the point you're supposed to make something up? Have you no imagination?

Jealous tbh. Mind you, I think people who hold University chairs and call themselves Professor are fair game.

If the money isn't donated to charity I don't think I'll be going, although having said that I'll probably persuade myself differently nearer the time. He will have been here 10 years so has to have a testimionial; I hope he does the decent thing though.
