I think there's elements of truth here but I don't accept the implication that the ERG or IEA had a detailed plan as such spanning decades. Chaos is a cruel mistress. Again though its interesting we have Hunt as the de facto PM now, that certianly wasn't in the script.

Here's an anology of the tory party for you I've just thought of. Newcastle United 2nd April 2005. Having appointed and awful manager, NUFC are getting annihilated by a mediocre beige opposition. Some of the team are pretending to be dead, but get sent off anyway. Other members of the team, including the frothing racist right wing of it, are openly fighting with each other in plain sight, and are about to be sent off. Short-term outcome is utter humiliation. Long-term sequelae is gradual decline of the club, leading to eventual relegation four years later.
