You just need to find whichever game length suits you really. Like I said I like 3 min Blitz but 1 min or 2|1 Bullet is just too hectic for me and I'm just not very good at that speed. In Blitz even going to 5 mins is much more sedate than 3 mins and you can play 10 mins too (plus 3|2 and 15|10). Also there's rapid chess (30 mins) which is just 'normal' chess as it were. On Chess.com a lot of people seem to have one preferred way of playing.

It's a good game but I haven't played for ages really. Got into one holiday in Greece and used to play against a local who had a bar when it was quiet, which was pretty much all the time. It's probably better played sipping Metaxa watching the sun set over the Aegean but so are most things I imagine.
  3. I don't think JRM got picked up from school every night somehow. Once a term maybe and then probably by his nanny. Munching on a Gregg's cheese and onion pacifier in the back of a Seat people carrier probably isn't how it went down either
  4. Because they're such fucking gormless dweebs I bet they aren't even doing it right

I used to play at school (stop laughing at the back) and got back into it a couple of years ago. I'm a member on Chess.com. I play a bit of daily chess, i.e. 3 days per move in team matches but most 3 minute blitz. I'm ok but really should read some books to progress but it does tend to go from 'these are the rules' type of things to some pretty deep shit with regard to the books. As an aside it's mental watching GMs and IMs playing 1 minute bullet games where they make about 50+ moves but the standard is still ridiculously high. If you like that sort of thing.

Actually, online chess. So thrilling I almost forgot about it

I haven't got time / can't be arsed as I'm knackered when I do get a spare minute. I don't really think reading on the metro and watching box sets really counts. I'm still pretty obsessed with music though and love discovering new stuff (even if it's old, if you know what I mean).

Yeah, I did think that was probably the case. He's raised about £160k now (just checked) so I'm guessing he can afford a better one for his appeal.

It's just what was reported in the mainstream press about it and I've only read a couple of articles. It just seems odd as it seems like he could've legitimately been acquitted with that defence but the judge's comments suggest they virtually ignored that route, but this Markus Meechan then argued against that on Twitter and said they did use it as a defence. It's like that case in Liverpool with the lass posting the rap lyrics where it seems like once someone takes offence the authorities feel they have to pursue it and I suppose you have the generational thing whereby 'shitposting' would be incomprehensible to a lot of older people

It would be interesting to know why the judge made the comments he did, i.e. what exactly went on in the trial. I think it's bit ridiculous it even got to trial but the bit about his defence making very limited submissions around freedom of speech. I wonder if the lad in question was loving being a martyr and he thought 'fuck it' and it stemmed from that. Or maybe his solicitor was just a bit shit

It's actually a left-wing plot to stop young white disaffected males from fathering children. Working like a dream so far

  15. Aye, it takes it to a whole different level. I think Bundy is thought to have killed at least one victim in front of another which would've been absolutely terrifying too. No one really knows though because he left hardly any physical evidence than incriminated him, then you have the era lacking the forensic techniques ot more recent times. Then, finally, you have the inconsistencies in his relating what happened so it's virtually impossible to know when he was lying or telling the truth.
  16. The worst thing about him is that, were it not for his complete inability not to go on violent, deadly rampages, he could've gotten away with it. He almost did anyway
  17. What about Ted Bundy? Jesus titty-fucking Christ. If a story like that had been made up you would write it off as being ridiculously far-fetched.
  18. He just throws these ideas out there without having given them any thought. A bit like Gove
