  4. Mike Ashley has really scraped the barrel with his treatment of the football press, and by association, the fans. Supporters rely on their regular newspaper for coverage of the team and the club, with the only above board way this can happen being free access for all. However, already we have seen the Newcastle United owner actively seek out media partners who will pay for the extra coverage, over and above what the overall Premier League deals contractually make them do. Today United defeated Real Sociedad by a single goal with Moussa Sissoko in the last minute. However, today saw Mike Ashley go to the extraordinary lengths of banning Alan Pardew and his players from talking after the match to the press pack after the match. The journalists who were banned from access to manager/players, understandably making their feelings known via social media.
  5. The advertising is so blatant you'd be forgiven for not realising there was a game being played today. SportsDirect.com Wonga proud to sponsor Newcastle United Season Tickets available Fanks Mike.
  6. 3 out of 15 not very good is it ?
  7. “It’s very difficult for teams outside Champions League to compete but we’re trying to do it in an educated manner. “We have been accused of not spending the money we bring in, but now we’re spent it we can hope to get as close (to top four) as we can. “Siem De Jong should be OK for Real Sociedad on Sunday – add him to the mix and we could really trouble teams. “That is something we didn’t do in the second half of last season. “We have not had a lot of time with Remy (Cabella), Daryl (Janmaat), or Moussa (Sissoko) but we’re looking much stronger offensively.” So if looking to get as "close to the top four as we can" we must be looking to finish 5th not mid table like last season.
  8. Newcastle United remain determined to sign a striker before the end of the transfer window – and have not given up on either Loic Remy or Alexandre Lacazette. United have recruited seven players for next season’s first team squad and are now only hunting a striker capable of shouldering the scoring burden. Although defensive reinforcements have been called for by some, any further additions above and beyond a striker would depend on outgoings – which look unlikely at the moment. The final piece of United’s summer jigsaw is proving the most difficult, with Newcastle’s hit-list now down to QPR front-man Remy and Lacazette. Although the noises from both have not been positive in public there is understood to have been more constructive talk behind-the-scenes, with Newcastle still ready to move on Remy. The sticking point would be the wage demands that have turned off Arsenal and made a deal with Liverpool difficult, although the Magpies believe he is not entirely happy about staying at QPR and potentially fighting a survival battle with Harry Redknapp’s side. Similarly, Newcastle believe they are close to an agreement in principle with Lyon over Lacazette, whose intentions are unclear. French reports have consistently claimed that the player does not want to move to England but his advisors have been less strident – and Newcastle believe there remains a deal to be done. With the signing of Facundo Ferreyra last week a third possibility is being catered for. If United cannot secure a deal for either striker they are likely to mothball their interest in a striker until January and reinvest their cash in the New Year window. That is not the favoured option at St James’ Park but the sums being discussed mean that Newcastle must tread carefully in the striker recruitment stakes. Indeed any further maneouvering is likely to dependent on whether some of the higher earners on the fringes can be moved on. United published their squad numbers on Thursday and the list illustrated the number of senior professionals the Magpies now have on their books. Hatem Ben Arfa – who played for the under-21 side at Barnsley – remains the highest earner that Newcastle want to listen to offers for but others remain vulnerable, including Steven Taylor. Ben Arfa lost his favoured number ten to Siem De Jong, whose foot injury is not serious enough to rule him out of contention for the season opener against Manchester City. Cheick Tiote remains a slight doubt for the Citizens clash, and is unlikely to figure in Sunday’s game against Real Sociedad. Meanwhile, United allowed young striker Adam Campbell to join newly-promoted League One side Fleetwood on a month’s loan.

  10. 6 hours ago by Jackie Smithfield Alan Pardew has admitted that with only ten days until the start of Newcastle United’s season; “We have some work to do.” The Newcastle manager reflected on another goal for Remy Cabella against Huddersfield and Riveiere on the scoresheet once again. However, Pardew also admits that he has to, “…bring it all together.” So many new signings, will Newcastle be ready for Manchester City? Alan Pardew; “Cabella’s finish was class and he had some moments in the game, he’s going to have moments in the season, that are special – no doubt about that. “We have some work to do, no doubt about that. Look at us…some good players, we just have to bring it all together. “Riviere has looked terrific and he is certainly a player that looks like he is going to score goals and that is important. “It was Janmaat’s first game – he’s a class player and he’s going to be a great player for us. Nice to get that 60 minutes under his belt and he will play on Sunday (v Real Sociedad) and hopefully be ready, if he comes through without injury, for (Manchester) City and obviously he will start. “It is all about being ready for the week after, so I will still make a lot of substitutions in that game (Real Sociedad). “It is all really about preparing for Sunday week.” The latest musings of Uncle Alan alright mate.

  14. “We need to get the win for us all to go on holiday in the summer and be able to say to a Newcastle fan: ‘All right mate, how you doing?’” Remember this classic from before the Swansea game.

  16. This is why he gets bashed and rightly so never liked him, never wanted him at the club. I would have much preferred to stick with Hughton.
