In those seven games Sheffield and Charlton have to win 6 or 7 points more than us (with Sheffield playing us at home). This means they have overall to do better than us in 2/3 of the remaining games. Maybe not very likely, but a clear possibility looking at how much ground especially Charlton made up recently. The majority of the rest of the teams are just one match day away to overtake us in the table. The same scenario applies for every other team of the bottom half of the table. So no team is safe so far with only few games to go. Ergo all of the teams face the not improbable possibility of relegation if they don't get the necessary results. Stating otherwise is just lalaing and not accepting the harsh facts of a league table. Again there is a HUGE difference between the possibility of relegation (no matter how remote) which is what you are talking about above, and being IN a "relegation battle". Re the Sheff United game - one thing is absolutely certain: they will be up for the battle in a way that we haven't been all season, and weren't when they came to SJP. Our players still view themselves as top 6 challengers, whilst Sheff United's have accepted that they are battling for survival. Perhaps if the manager was prepared to recognise that we are in a battle, it might dawn on the players too......but no, he's too busy announcing that we'll qualify for Europe next season.

The question for me is no longer whether we are too good to go down (clearly we aren't), but whether the teams below us are bad enough to keep us up. I don't see where our next points are coming from, so we're relying others to be just shit enough that we don't end up in the bottom 3.

Graduate work - first real job and it all seems a bit scary. I want something journalism related but I want it to be something a bit fun and exciting. Working for a local paper in Berkshire reporting on things that don't really interest me sounds tremendously dull. But then the exciting jobs are the harder ones to get into. I think I'm going to lose. I know fuck all about journalism, but I would guess that they keep the exciting jobs for people with experience who've proven themselves, and expect the graduates to start out in local papers in Berkshire reporting on things that don't really interest them. By the way, I know nothing about graduate recruitment into journalism, sorry. Do you not have a careers department at Uni? They're normally worth visiting - they'll have loads of application forms for you to have a look through and see if anything takes your fancy.

Aye, pretty much sums the situation up. I really do dislike the bloke now though. After the summer transfer window I was pretty much out of goodwill for him.
