You know the season is over when MF digs up 9 year old articles. It is a pretty good one though to be fair to him.

They've got tsunami zones marked out in Oregon too, public warning systems and all that. Mind you there's still schools, hospitals and what not within those areas so not sure exactly how seriously they are prepared. The general American attitude is probably a bigger threat than lack of preparedness tbh. In Texas they seem to be pretty well prepapred for extreme weather, and north Texas does get a lot of it. Sirens go off for hail, tornados. You also get alerts on your phone, and they tell you exactly what the threat and danger is and what time exactly the storm will be where in the area. Quarter size hail, golf ball size, baseball size. Doesn't stop some from pulling out their trucks and driving off as the alarms are going off Just yesterday Dallas got battered by hurricane force winds. I looked out the window for a brief moment and in that time saw at least 3 people get into their trucks, one of them literally feet away from a place where the roof was flapping and about to come down.

Aye it's the FFP that's the main thing here. Don't really mind not playing in the competition other than that. They can't assume that when UEFA and others are struggling to prove anything right? Imagine a EY/KPMG partner walking up to the City board with all their connections, and saying "Erm, you're in the news for being dodgy, so we're going to conduct a forensic investigation and charge you a couple of extra mil this year". Completely unfathomable even for lower profile companies than City and it's owners. Most large companies have a number of open cases they're fighting at any given time, auditors give them a cursory glance to the extent they are likely to affect the financial statements. That's mainly it. Let's say the situation was more clear cut, with City fined and being looked into by government authorities, in that case the firm would have protocols based on risk, from withdrawing completely to amending scope and limiting liability to cover their arses. Very rare.

Having spent years in one, it doesn't necessarily work that way. 1. Statutory audits and other audit engagements aren't designed to detect fraud, if you pick up official audit engagement paperwork you'll see disclaimers around that. 2. Auditors and big firms know the sum of feck all usually, they occupy themselves with filling checklists and forms, and rarely know much about whats really going on at the company. They also dont want to upset their big money clients. Big firms are routinely fined millions of dollars for lack of care and substandard work, just google it if you wish.
