  1. I think we'd still be discussing it though, although with a more positive slant.
  2. I think we need a new denominator for transfer fees, at the reported fee this guy is just over 2 Sunderlands
  3. Evidently Caulkin has said the club have been briefing some Journo’s “off the record” about player targets, but they’re ones we’re not targeting, smoke and mirrors. Wonder if that’s how CN got the Barella story, marvellous if true 😂
  4. Mate of Dan’s who we’ve stayed in touch with (a Mackem) is utterly obsessed with the Titanic, any exhibition etc. he’s there, I thought it was a Mackem thing tbh, is there something you want to tell us ?
  5. Seems could be some mileage in this toenail bloke
  6. They are having a sing song to keep their spirits up: We're going to die in a homemade submarine a homemade submarine a homemade submarine
  7. @wykikitoon You'll be pleased to hear it had a bog (right in front of the viewing window/porthole).
  8. If not dead already (because the thing imploded) they are absolutely going to die in 48 hours max, as they run out of oxygen, because there is no way a) it'll be found or b) it can be raised if it's own buoyancy is fucked. That's not the worst of it though, for the poor (rich) fuckers, they'll be suffering mood swings !!!!!!!!!! Fucking mood swings
  9. (Robinson - Broad was out) No-one was asking for a "bat on tomorrow" but first innings, first day, you just don't give runs away, to do so ONLY increases your chance of losing, not winning. It was a "look at us we're billy big bollocks" move, not a tactically adept move, that's why I have a problem with it, it was drama for the sake of drama and I'd still have a problem with it if we'd won. If it had been Broad and Robinson different story because that's not going to get you much more 9 out of 10 times so yeah sure, have a pop at them last thing, but Root was on absolute fire, shit he could have taken us to 450 (which most were saying was par at start of play), we wrapped in a decent chunk under par. The rate we score at, we get a conventional day and a half's runs in a day anyway, but let's just make that number as high as we can eh?.
  10. As Alex says, much better than a loss in the first game when you have to win the series, and there is no way on gods green earth, or in the history of the game, that any position at the end of day one has draw as the most likely result (outside of something like 200 for none) and we're only talking about 6 overs, no-one's mentioned "half a session".
  11. How?, it only took 30 minutes out of the game, 6 overs, it actually gave us more chance to lose than win, there were minimum 10 overs left when the Aussies won No, they are trying to win cricket matches. As Agnew has said: "My big hope is that they keep creating chaos but just pick their moments to do so."
  12. It's nowt to do with convention, we gave away the wicket of the World #1 batsman (as ranked today) when he was absolutely flying on day one of a 5 day match, that makes zero sense through any lens IMO, if it'd been 9/10/11 in partnership and we wanted to try and "get one tonight" I'd have way less problem with that, but to stop the best at what he does from doing what he does, by choice, on day one, it was (and always will be) fucking mental. They've won 11 out of 14 playing aggressive cricket, Root was being aggressive and he was stopped, by his own side.
  13. No-one (well I'm not) is saying it was the main factor, simply that it was bloody stupid. Johnny Iron Gloves (viking name) cost us the game. They chose Bairstow on the basis he's the better bat - i.e. he'd score more runs but THEN they gave runs away i.e. They voluntarily undermined the rationale of why he was in the team ahead of the guy who would have saved runs (and is himself a decent bat). They'll stick with same team, subject to Moe's finger I reckon. If Moeen can't go, assuming Bairstow keeps the gloves, I'd bring Wood in and Root will have to be the spinner, or they may rest Jimmy for Wood, then I'd bring Foakes in for Moeen, but they'll do something else.
  14. I'm all for bazball and the aggressive approach, but I'm not that keen on daft decisions, like taking your best batsman who is being successfully aggressive out of the game, by choice, that is/was stupid. As for good criac, it's the Aussies, there is no good craic unless you win.
  15. 6 overs is all it was, don’t give runs away on first innings, ever, especially against the best team in the world. We lost by 2 wickets, 2 wickets we gave them free on day one (one of which was Joe Root who was on fire). That’s actually the first time I’ve thought about it like that, we got Joe Root out for them, fuck me, I feel even worse now 🙄
  16. if we’d batted those six overs, the Aussies would have been batting in that 20 minute floodlight session. It was a stupid gamble made for some psychological point scoring, it wasn’t calculated.
  17. Exactly that, as Mark Butcher put it, Root was batting like God, the pitch/ball was doing nothing, it cost us 6 overs and even at fives (and that’s low IMO) that’s another 30 runs. Lyon coming in with 80 plus to get as opposed to 50, massive difference, not to mention the rate they would have had to maintain over virtually all of the remaining overs. The declaration was sheer folly, but even with that, the missed chances (and they were regulation) first innings is what did us. We got Smith and Lambuschagne for next to nothing, twice each, that’s not going to happen in three out of the four remaining matches I reckon, they are too good, it needs to happen but Johnny’ll spill one or both of them at some point.
  18. The police are fucking useless for getting offenders in front of the beak these days, the seagulls are probably just levying compensation payments for sexual assault.
  19. Aussies win by the two wickets we donated to them declaring day one, not to mention the Bairstow charitable acts. Cummings and Lyon deserve huge credit, but we tossed that away. I’m all for bazball and playing aggressively, but we now have to win three out of four to win the Ashes, that won’t happen, the English summer will likely see to that if Lords doesn’t.
