I agree. Whatever the reasons for our slump, Pardew still comes off as cool and calm and doesn't put his foot in it.

I know...these players buy the same newspapers too, I don't know what must go on in their heads to keep wanting more. I can sort of see the logic when you know that you are generating money for somebody so you should take your share but IMO it always ends up taking focus away from the game itself and the thing they loved in the first place. The optimist in me sees people learning to give back and realising that it can actually make you happier than constantly taking. Bill Gates and recently George Lucas gave away fortunes to good causes. How much does a person really need after all? It may be naive but I just hope there are still some footballers out there who want to turn up to a job where everyone is on the same side. It seemed like we'd managed it last season. Ba is an excellent striker but if you think about it, he agreed to be paid a certain amount for a period of time and now he's gone back on that agreement. What can the club do logically? They don't have the option to reduce players' contracts if they play badly so I can see it going against the grain to have to increase them if they play well. I know that's how things have got but I think Ashley is right to not get into that game. It reminds me of the Owens and Dyers and the total lack of camaraderie when anyone scored. In short, cunts.

But it would just open the floodgates for every other player to start getting shitty about their own contract, starting with Colo. He's a great player and in form but you can bet as soon as we gave him a 4 year contract on £90k a week his knee would go!

We all know Ferguson plays mind games but it is usually the manager he comments on, this time he has attacked the club that ordinary people love. If he has any decency whatsoever he'll apologise for the slur on the club. I think he's so far up his own backside that he won't though. It is impossible to teach respect from the grass roots when those at the top behave so badly.

Are you serious? Fair enough if that's your experience but I personally don't know anybody who would care if Ireland became its own country again compared to say if Scotland left the union. Merry Christmas to all too!

The fact is, most people who live in England/Scotland/Wales couldn't care less about Northern Ireland and wouldn't miss anything about it being part of the "union" if it just all became Ireland.

Being a southerner I usually kept my mouth shut when I was at matches unless it was to join in with a song but I sat next to a really posh bloke who was also a southerner who I didn't know. One week he chirped up (in the poshest voice you've ever heard, like something off the Fast Show) with "Come on Hugo! Get stuck in!!!" This massive bloke in front of us just turned and GLARED at him for being so southern. Also he used to sing (and this is absolutely true) "We are the Geordies, the super geordies and we are mental and we are mad".
