I think the system restore disk option was one I switched off to save £40 or something... balls to it, my mate is bringing his external hd tonight, I'll move my shit across, restore my pc and pray to the great big angry gods that everything will work. then after Xmas I'll buy a mac for browsing and work and I'll strip the pc to the bear bones for games and... well... porn I guess..

No, I knew that, but was hoping to find a way around doing the the whole "system dump". if I get a mate with an external hard-drive round and copy over my music/games/tvporn etc. is it likely that whatever problem there is with my system will be carried across with it? basically I'm asking is it worth me trying to save anything, or should I just be a man and say g'bye to it all?

can't, I've tried switching it off then hitting F8 as it's loading and that doesn't work, there isn't the option to "switch off and restart in safe mode" when I try turning off as normal and Ctrl-Alt-Del doesn't have that option either... only options when I load up are F2 (setup) and F12... something else. hit F8 once per second after switching on no joy Mcafee wouldn't run at all, no virus scanning in Safe Mode for me it isn't recognising my audio device, I'm lucky I've got a Belkin wireless USB thingy, because the windows one suddenly doesn't exist, this is beyond pissing me off... I'm going have to restore factory defaults aren't I ? have you tried restore to last successsful boot up. Yup but because some programs are working and the system isn't crashing, I'm guessing my stupid pig-fucker of a Dell pc thinks that this purgatory is my last succesful boot up

well mine is still under warranty etc. so I should be covered even if it is fucked. It's just the hassle that I'm worried about well that and the midget porn
