if you've got the money, time and inclination I'd definitely suggest Florence. comparatively cheap, LOADS to see and it's generally got good weather. don't know if you can fly direct, but I got a flight from Stanstead to Milan for £25 and the Italian train system is cheap and punctual and easy to use.
