The OFFICIAL Transfer Rumours Thread
David Kelly replied to Anorthernsoul's topic in Newcastle Forum
I think you're crazy if you don't think from the outset there was a reasonable chance Carver could have been given the job full time on basis that he's cheap and easy. It's only because he's proven to be a monumental fuckwit that the chance is going. I also take issue with your assertion that no one could have expected Carver to be so bad because a lot of us did (myself and Gloomy for a start). You say Pardew is a sample size of one but is he? Keegan, Hughton, Kinnear, Hughton, Shearer, Hughton, Pardew. I don't see how any of those choices were made with a view to having someone who could better coach the players. There might have been the idea that some of them could inspire the players more but there's zero evidence of any great deal of coaching ability there. As much as I love Keegan, it was his passion not his techincal expertise that made him a success. And throughout all of the lows under Pardew, Ashley was quite content to let him continue to do what he was doing had he not resigned. Why then will he think he needs to improve on that now? -

But you're suggesting that he'll bring in a manager/coach that can improve our players. This isn't something he's done before. Of course his current choice of Carver is actually having a negative effect and that's more of an exception than a rule, but it's not like his other choices have a track record of imrpoving the players we have. Hence the term Pardewed. -

I'm yet to fully understand any of his reasonings but I'm just going along with the historical facts. Other than Keegan, he's shown no desire at all to appoint a decent manager. -

Woodman etc weren't at the club prior to Ashley but at the point he arrived we had fat sam and his multitude of coaches and technical people so I'm quite certain we will have had more coaching staff then. And just because it's as obvious as the kebab meat on Carvers face that he's not up to the job, doesn't mean that Ashley will appoint anyone decent as his replacement. -
Aye it's understandable the players aren't motivated given the complete lack of direction at the club but the manager or coach is there to do something about that.

I think any of us in the position he was in would have wanted to have a crack at the top job mind. I doubt he's in any more precarious a position because he's probably still working from is previous contract. He'll no doubt still be here in some way after this season so he's lost nothing. Unless he properly looses his rag and headbuts an opposition player. No manager could survive doing that!

The Secret Diary of Lee Ryder (aged 44 and a half)

Go for it. From the answer he gives above it must just be some automatically generated answer mind! -

Why would anyone ask Ryder his opinion on anything much less that? -
Fair enough

Not so sure about that. He looks like the hippos to be fair!

No one is blaming him for everything that is wrong with the club or even the team. We all knew the squad was too small and lacking in quality. We all knew Carver would get no help from above and we can all see that injuries have hurt us. None of this means Carver deserves any sympathy any more than Pardew did. He's chosen to put himself in this position and I don't necessarily blame him for hanging in there as he has to try and look after himself and his family financially. But he deserves the criticsm he gets for being completely incapable of doing the job and being a complete fuckwit.
-
I take it that's from Carver and if so it's clearly showing why he shouldn't be managing any football club.
-
I wasn't totally sure if Riviere was getting booed or it was the decision to take him off that was getting booed. A lot of people don't like Riviere but in the first half at least he was occupying their defenders. Definitely didn't think he deserved to get booed if he was. Cabella was pretty shit like but I suppose the fact that he has been better recently means he's more likely to avoid a bit of critcism.
-
You say last few but is it actually any more than the last one? I can't remember hearing he did anything at all in the one before.
-
That wouldn't take long these days!
-
Would he still have some contractual rights if he resigned as caretaker head coach or whatever he's supposed to be at the minute? I mean if his contract is for him to be as a coach working under someone then he can pull himself away from the job he's clearly not capable of doing to go back to one he's contracted for that he's probably not capable of doing.
-
Took me a minute to realise who that was. Fuck knows whether he'd be worth a game or not.
-
The question would be whether he would be happy to write off those millions just to be a cunt. At the minute he seems far too concerned with making money off the back of us to do that but you never know, the day might come.
-
That's the most optimistic thing you've said in ages. I wouldn't be happy playing in league 1 myself.
-
I think it's more than likely you're right that he wouldn't be able to last a full game yet but him lasting a full game seems a far more likely scenario than us being 2-0 up without him.
-
I'm not 100% convinced it would be the worst thing for us any more if he did decide to close us down for revenge. We could start over and try and create a club that we could proud of again. There's not many options for the fans to go to other clubs round here (Gateshead would be the only realitic option near League football) so yes we'd have to start at the bottom but we'd be by far the best supported team which would give us finances that no other club near that level would have. It would still take a decade or so to get us back to league football but Wimbledon have shown it can be done with less that I suspect we would have. We might never again regain the status we've have with the present club but at least we could create a club that actually aspired to something rather than just being an advertisment for a tatty sports shop empire owned by a cunt!

Once again your optimism that we can get to half time 0-0 will Leicester with the same defence that started on Saturday far outweighs mine. I'm working on the basis that our defenders are completely unable to go a whole half without conceding against what has been for most of the season the bottom team. So by my rationale outscoring them has to be our aim so we need SDJ in from the start. I'm hoping (and tbf to him his 173 games the four seasons prior to his last with Ajax back it up) that's he's not quite as made of glass as we fear and his injuries are behind him. No doubt an injury for the reserves this week will blow that theory out of the water!
-
Why try and change a game (by change I assume you mean you expect it to be going worng for us by then) rather than make it go our way from the start? Given Carver's previous, even if we're losing he probably won't make an early change so we might as well try and get the most we can from the most effective player.

Aye that's my take on it.
