Don't know about that (your the statto not me ) but I wouldn't really be expecting a load of assists from a fullback just that he's able to contribute to the attack which is something that Simpson (imo) is totally incapable of. As well as defending.

I'm sure I read somewhere that he had like four or five last season. Mind you I also read that he'd been converted from a winger so if what you say is true he must have had a truly awful record there. Mind you, as someone said in another thread the other day, the assist stat can be very misleading. You can have a massive part in a goal without playing the last pass or you can lay off a little ball to HBA and he can beat four players before twatting it in. One you would get an assist for and one you wouldn't but your importance would be a lot more on the first one.

I think he had involvement all the way through but definitely to a lesser extent later on. Although the way it ended you would think was totally Lynch and certainly more closely resembled the film (which is very good once you get over the fact that it doesn't explain the ending at all) and other films of his such as Mulholland Drive and Inland Empire (which I admit I didn't get at all). Edit: He did actually direct the last episode of series 2 along with 3 others although they were all much earlier ones.

Yeah you're right I've just had a quick look. Most seem to be of him kissing Giroud!

Aye but did you notice how few of them hit the first man! A few of them were very decent balls too just France weren't getting enough men into the box. I'm sure you could have found a better compilation to post too!

The great David Kelly Twin Peaks is awesome, despite it's completely bonkers ending and a couple of episodes of nothing after you find out who kills her. Probably my favorite series ever.

Finally managed to watch the first ep of GOT without falling asleep and now I've just watched the 4th. Impressive amounts of norks so far and the little dwarf fella is mint (even if his accent is very iffy at times). Think I'll watch a few more tonight and probably finish the first series over the weekend (drink and fifa 13 permitting).

Right, one down just another two or three to go and we're sorted!

Official now. On the club site.

Agreed. We need to halt the run of defeats as soon as possible!

You didn't need to elaborate on your first five words there! Edit: In fact the first four were more than enough!

We'll be very lucky to get a net spend of £10m imo.

That's fair enough although if we had any doubts over his knee then I can understand why we wouldn't want to take the risk.

I doubt we would have been able to keep him no matter what we offered. If he had an inkling that Chelsea were interested in him he would always chose them over us no matter how happy he was here. They are a far more attractive proposition as club than us now. They have an owner who wants to make them the very best and has the money and will to spend it that we simply can't compete with under Ashley. If we expected to keep him we needed to spend on adding to the team in the summer but we didn't. We showed zero ambition so any player in their right mind would choose Chelsea over us unless they are a mad keen fan of the club.

I think two months is a bit harsh as is calling him one of our worst players. Simpson, Williamson and Tiote have all been a lot worse for a kick off.

He's right footed. There needn't be another reason. As I understand it, he ended up played leftback because Inter were short on numbers so had to make do. He performed well there and has subsequently got stuck there. But the standard in football is to have right footed players on the right and left footers on the left. I know this is not as clear cut as it used to be for wide midfielders but it is still rare to have fullbacks playing on anything but their natural side. If you're looking for them to supplement the attack and get balls into the box they will be able to do it far more successfully with their better foot. I also think it would help him defensively as it would simply be more natural to him when he's facing up to the opposition. Of course there are time's recently where he's made mistakes which could have easily happened whichever side of the pitch he was on but imo he would fare better on the right.

I heard a bit of the phone in on radio Newcastle last night when I was on the way up to the match. This bloke phoned in and said he rated Shola quite a bit. If I'd been in charge of the thing I'd have hung up on him there and then. Clearly he was either on the wind up or one of the most clueless people in the country! I think everyone over about 13 yr old had sussed Sammy out now too. The kids a headless chicken who will never make it.

Santon's been out of form the last few games it's not just last night. That said, before that he was our most consistent performer this season. I still feel we would only get the very best of him playing him rightback but that's obviously not going to happen assuming the Debuchy transfer goes through. He's still more than capable at left back and I'm not at all concerned about him. I'm sure once we get some players back/in he'll get back to his best.

I agree with Stevie like. While booing your own team is never great, I fully accept and understand it at the end of a shambolic display that's lacking in effort. Booing a player onto the pitch sends out the wrong signals not only to that player (who despite what shit attitude he's shown in the past, we actually needed to do something for us on pitch) but the rest of the team as well. Mind you it was a ridiculous move to bring him on at that point anyway. But after starting with Cisse on the right again last night I shouldn't be surprised at awful decisions from Pardew.

The thing is there's not many clubs that would be willing or able to pay the wages he wants given his knee issue. Chelski and Citeh are probably the only two in this country and if Chelski had a permanent manager I think they would be looking at a bigger option. It could very well be a really bad move on his part because I suspect he'll be pushed out in favour of someone like Falcao or Cavani in the summer. Of course most likely we'll be the big loosers in all of this. But you never know we might be able to replace him with someone who can allow us to fit together a proper team. Most likely we won't replace him any time soon though.

Newcastle United v QPR Saturday 22nd December

In our current state yes I certainly do. I know what you're getting at in terms of having a more attacking player on but given recent results and our low confidence, I think it was sensible to have someone playing that we knew we could rely on (even if it's only up to an average level). -

I can honestly say I've not heard anyone say much positive about him except for his performance against Wigan. To me he's not a winger at all so any talk of him playing in place of Jonas is a waste of time. The only way he can offer anything to the team is playing in the middle with a fairly free role as he's too weak to play as an out and out centre mid. But to be honest I think it's a very big risk to give him that role in our current plight. More often than not he's looked well out of his depth. He's definitely improving but with key players missing and others under performing its as much of a risk as it throwing in youngsters. It doesn't help us or them.
