  5. Aye I remember Ginola saying that the French view money like that, and treat rich people with scorn. Apparently they're even worse though when the people with the money are french, I remember him saying that they'll go down to San Tropez and admire all of the multi-million pound yachts, but if they think a Frenchman owns it they'll spit on the ground. Obviously Wenger is French but he was brought and lived around Strasbourg for most of his life, which is a mile from Germany. You'll know better than me, but I think it's inevitable that people in that part of France are strongly influenced by the kraut way. Emotionless, efficient, methodical and robotic. They're not bad things to have as a manager.
  6. Wenger has an economics degree, the fiscal side is massive to him, he'd be too disgusted to represent a club like Chelsea or Manchester City.
  7. After getting £20m more than his value, and they managed to keep him 3 years after Barca and he wanted the transfer.
  8. They had that last season, and their board of directors didn't want to sell them so they stayed. When was the last time Tottenham were forced to sell a top player. Berbatov? How long ago was that?!
  9. See Alan Smith got nutted and twatted off Huddersfield last night. He might be a total nob, and one of the shittest players in the clubs 120 year history, but he doesn't deserve that.
  10. This season of luck can't last forever, at boardroom and playing level, and the indications are that some of our better players will leave anyway. I'll be delighted with 7th next season, and think we will come 7th-9th. What would make my summer is if Ashley sold the club to someone who doesn't want Newcastle fans going in to the summer accepting we'll lose 2 or 3 of our best players.
  11. Carroll in, is a surprise to me like. Carroll and Zamora definitely in, fuck me, Europe's defences must be quaking in their boots. In all seriousness Ireland took a better squad to Euro 88 and Italia 90 than we'll take to these hell holes. Speaking of which where's Nick Kielce these days?
  12. Forget about Liverpool and Chelsea being shite. The luck to my mind isn't based on the fact that we've qualified for Europe it's based on the fact, we've acquired a quality squad on the cheap. What decisions did Ashley make? He changed the manager, he wanted someone to control the dressing room better, he knew Pardew from 5am casino jaunts, he obviously felt he had something. Looking at Pardew's managerial record, it's not bad, but it's never shown signs of being better than it has been this season. It's easy to say it's a masterstroke in hindsight, but I can see past that, it's carried so much luck but fair play to Ashley for making that decision. He rolled the dice. What other decisions did he make, he slashed the wage bill and signed cheaper players on less money. Again slashing an unsustainable wage bill was a good move, but replacing the high earners with higher quality significantly lower earners carries a remarkable amount of luck. That's what has happened, while his PRIME OBJECTIVE was purely fiscal, he's had the added bonus of metaphorically landing in the Tyne and coming out with a salmon in his mouth.
  13. Not that I know of, but they have a massive friendship with Feyenoord. Watch any game in de Kuip and you will see a Sunderland top. Comes from mackems on the dole in the 70s and 80s fucking off to Rotterdam. Every Sunderland home game is watched by 100+ dutch.
  14. iirc = when I've read Baggio's link. Well to be fair I thought it was under Ashley, but even FFS said he had misgivings and all he was doing was supporting a new manager who he appointed.
  15. Congratulations Asprilla.
  16. Only Tottenham of those sides are head and shoulders better than we are.
  17. ...and it's not a one way thing. They have Man City and Feyenoord, we have Shrewsbury and Bilbao.
  18. That's fine, but remind me which regime signed Joey Barton
  19. The last time we came 5th we had a lot of divvies, Jenas, Titus, "Bellas" etc...I'm much happier with who we have this time. As for Graham Carr's input he's been amazing, but before he came here, he was hardly the Jenna Jameson or the Robert de Niro of scouting was he. "This caaant wiww do, syys on 'is CV e worked fow Spurs, n e awwnly wants fowty gwaynd a yeahyay plass expenses" That would've been the conversation.
  20. This is partially bollocks too. I think on top of the fact they're good, a reason a lot of our fans are so endeared to this team is they all seem like good lads who want to be here. Good honest professionals, I can't even remember the last time we had so many good lads playing for us. This crowd react to that, it's why when we came 12th we applauded them, they gave it their all, and were happy to be priveledged enough to play for the club. Certainly a big thing for me anyway. Regarding it not being the end of it I hope you're right.
  21. As for why would you want decent owners, you're seriously questioning that?! You don't mind being lied to then? It's like saying lets have a government who will tell us what we want to hear while doing the complete opposite. He ran the club like Putin runs Russia.
  22. It's far far far from bollocks. It's not even debatable in my view. Ashley has been one lucky cunt. We've basically spent less than Stoke, Bolton, Fulham, Sunderland, all of whom were better run than us before relegation, then the two of them admitted they were novices in the game and that's why they made loads of mistakes, to the extent he was prepared to sell the club for a THIRD of his initial investment. Suddenly! In 3 years they've waved a magic wand and turned in to the world's best football owners. Now that is bollocks. We're lucky cunts and that's the end of it, but I said I'd have an Ashley amnesty and I am doing, I'll reserve further judgement till September 1st 2012.
