Shepherd would have sold Carroll ffs. Nearly every buisness man would have. The mistake though was not anticipating the market and buying back up. As it stands though, we may still finish in a higher place then under Shepherd for may years of his tenure, and it's been a fuck of a lot more exciting than most these years too. So are you going to answer why you still go to football matches when you clearly don't enjoy it or not then? A very comparable situation there was when he turned down reported bids of £15-£20m for Dyer. I wouldn't be so sure that he'd sell him. They knew Woodgate was fucked, so you can't use that as an example as well. -
There's a clip in that 8:46-8:47 he's just scored a massive goal against Juventus, who were class at the time you think the whole team would be buzzing, watch Casiraghi's reaction he's like aye do one have a look, doesn't even celebrate.

He no doubt loves it, any excuse to wheel out the same old lines. aye, next season is gonna be just greeeeaaaat Why do you bother supporting Newcastle any more? You admitted after our great come back against Arsenal that you had seen it all before (despite it never having been done before) so it didn't excite you. All you do is moan about how shit we are and how shit we will be in future (despite us having a pretty good season), if you are going to constantly live in those few years where were in the champions league then you will be bitterly disappointed for many years to come (and this started before Ashley came in btw, the billionaire owners at City haven't helped this either). If following Newcastle is such an obvious chore why do you bother? It just seems like self harm to you. You are unable to accept where we are now (see "lower expectations") so you refuse to accept any joy that may come about because it doesn't match to what we were doing for a spell under the old board. Seriously is there any point? I know I would struggle to keep interest in something that never, ever gives me any positive moments. My feelings exactly. It seems to Leazes if you still enjoy going to the match that somehow makes you a supporter of Ashley. If you boo Andy Carroll then also you are implicitly supporting Ashley (despite Shepherd's comments saying he would have done the same). I've enjoyed this season more than any other since the Robson days. We've had some fantastic matches and results, and we really haven't played that bad much (especially when compared to the Souness and Roeder era). I don't like our chairman but somehow I still enjoy the product. If I become as disillusioned as Leazes, I'll simply jack it in though. There's so many other things you can do in your spare time and with the season ticket money. Every game this season I've really looked forward to going to, years since I could say that. Look at this, cracking little stat this. Home Goals Man Utd 43 Newcastle 38 Chelsea 37 Liverpool 37 Bolton 34 Arsenal 32 ..... Sunderland 24 -
Please god make sure she's alright. So many bad people in the world, pray she's ok.

A club who've won more trophies than us, have a more recent period of success, and have an all-time average crowd within a couple of hundred of ours - do you think we should automatically finish above them as well? Of course we should. As a business we should be at least 30% bigger than them as we have been for the best part of 20 years. More trophies what a pathetic statement, four more trophies, so fuckin what? It's staggering our all time average gate is higher than their's given the fact we've spent 20 years of our history in Division Two and they haven't even been down for 60 years. The fact is we are a bigger club in finance and fanbase in 2011 by far I'd say, so just to clarify, your argument is pathetic. More trophies. They've won one trophy in the last 24 years, one more than us, but so fuckin what. Let me ask you a question every season why are Newcastle on TV generally 5-10 games more than them? No wonder Leazes gets annoyed with posts like that. -
Something else I love about Gazza which you hardly EVER see these days, he never ever dived, or milked a knock. He used to get kicked all over, really badly hurt, he'd get up and shake hands. That bastard Brehme, should've been sent off for a tackle on him in the WC Semi Final, shocking tackle from behind, Gazza had just had his yellow card, he got up quick as a flash and shook his hand. He was quite hard as well, but rarely dirty, other than that cup final.
-
Absolutely class video, only very slightly tainted by Airwolf music being incorporated. I've always said Peter Beardsley was the greatest player to play for Newcastle, certainly in my life time he was. Gazza though was equally as talented, and I know it's been said 1000 times, but he could've been an all time great with a select few of 8 or 9 names like George Best, Cruyff and Maradona. He was that good. Loved watching that video cos it's got stuff on it I've never seen before. It's daft in your early 30's having heroes, but Peter and Gazza were and still are heroes of mine. Forget about his off the pitch self inflicted pish, I hope this thread is a celebration of his genius cos that's what he is. When they both left for Liverpool and Tottenham, I used to get excited when they scored I loved them that much. Clip 3:58 that game he scored three against Derby his first hattrick for Tottenham. The toon had been at home, and I heard someone on the bus home saying Gazza scored three, and I was so happy. I rang 192, and rang the yid reception number, "did Gazza get 3?!?!?!" "yes he did" " ". Watch how well balanced he was, and his weight used to go up and down all of the time, cos he used to eat junk food and get pissed quite often. Imagine what he'd be like now under someone like Arsene Wenger, he was deceptively quick, strong as an ox, could turn either way. He was just absolutely class. Am gutted for him he never won anything other 1991, you can't count Scottish trophies as winning things, and maybe if Keegan had've signed him in 95 things might've been different for the rest of his life, and different for us, such were the margins involved in not capturing the title.

If that's all the Liz and Phil the Greek could afford, that is what they would have to do. To continue the analogy, they'd mortgaged all the tiara's and had maxed out the credit cards and STILL they needed more money. But if they still trolled around in their state coaches waving to the crowds they'd be exactly like we were, all fur coat and no knickers, till the day the baillifs turned up. Look, Ashley rightly get's villified for many things but the one thing above all that he get's hammered for, the so called skinflint and "lining his pockets" is absolutely and utterly wrong. Even with our record revenues we made losses year on year, it had to stop somewhere. There comes a time when you have to realise that you've "missed the boat" the ONLY way to increase our revenues to the levels necessary (and the factual trend was down year on year from the "high" of 2003) was to be in the champions league, we just did not have the money to do that, we didn't really even have the money to troll around mid-table. You can set your sights as high as you like but you have to be able to back it up with hard £££'s. Everyone ignores debt "because all clubs have debts and they don't matter", well sorry like, but they do matter the minute you can't service them. As I've said before, our debt was incomparible to "other" football club debt, it was ALL leveraged and secured on the club and it's income streams (future and present). It was NOT like other club debt - Do the research (I have) and you'll see it's true. We did not have a pot to piss in. Our debt is now closer to not mattering than it ever was because it is now, LIKE other teams debts, underwritten by an owner, cunt though he may be. It remains different in one respect in that Ashley does NOT charge any interest on his loans, unlike almost every other owner, some like Lerner make a huge wedge from their "benevolence" (circa 15% of turnover). That is not a bad/evil thing, surely!. Even if turnover could be boosted to the £120 Million Stevie stated "easily" all that would do (because of our annual losses - even before Ashleys relegation genius) would have been to stand still because when your bleeding at £20-£30 million a year you'd better find some cash somehwere. All the above is factual (apart from the Queens knickers bit) and like it or not Ashley (or someone like him) was desperately needed at this club. Destroy the bloke for pissing off KK, sticking tacky adds on the roof, appointing Joe Kinnear, getting us relegated BUT to villify him for anything to do with the clubs money is beyond preposterous. I would fucking LOVE for someone to destroy my post with facts/evidence, anything substantial and I would gladly be shown up as wrong. But you know what, I don't think I am. We are what we are, because we are reaping what we (the club) sowed, and regretably we are all that we can afford to be. FACT. Pish. I'll reply properly tomorrow. -

Not all. Not sure if Ive read anything at all from any main stream media talking us down. Since relegation I think our overall press and the goodwill towards us has increased a hell of a lot. While nobody has a clue what Ashley will do next, the deadwood has virtually gone, stability is setting in, finances have been sorted and we seem to be putting in lots of preparation for the summer window. I'm not going to get high and mighty here, but I repeat the fans on the ground, in Newcastle, 99% are against Ashley, that's my issue with what you said. Not taking the piss, but even you have to be honest here, where you live is at beat a 30/70 area in their favour so the people you speak to are going to have slightly differing views than somewhere, where everyone is black and white. The discussion wasnt about whether people like Ashley, it was the club being talked down. We are not the laughing stock that we were and the club has dragged itself back to a respectable level with its self esteem restored imo. Our "press" on the whole is very good these days. I wouldnt dream of challenging the fact that Ashley is still hated by the majority. OK I misread what your meant re Ashley. I just want him out of the club, I won't be happy with Newcastle till him and Llambias have fucked off. It's last time I'll ever mention him, because every angle, and every point of view has been covered regarding him, Shepherd, and Llambias. There should be like a political left or right spectrum with FFS on one side and FMA on the other, and where people lie off here on some sort of chart. I'm sure HF would revel in making one you know what he's like. If FFS was right and FMA left I'd be far far farrrrrr right, I'd make Nick Griffin look like fuckin Trotsky. -

I asked him about this the other day, I said if Celtic played the toon in the CL final he said who would you want to win. He said something like Celtic 4-0. He was born in Glasgow, but moved here when he was 4 his mother/fatha being Irish/jocks. He turned round and said the NE fans are up there with Merseyside and Glasgow for passion, what a patronising fat cunt.

We're worthless man, like I say it's even down to the fucking strips. If you had half a clue you would realise our infrastructure is a fucking disgrace. You know the first thing Hall did, he built a team of successful businessmen around him, when he became chairman of the club. He had FFS, Douglas Hall, plenty others, and most importantly he appointed Freddie Fletcher who was probably second behind Keegan in being the reason the clubs turnover increased from £4m in 1991 to £59m in 1998. He marketed the club. It's a lot more complicated than, "ah Mike's doing his best, he's gradually growing the club", off the pitch we're like a fucking corner shop. Even the tacky Sports Direct sign on the roof, makes us look like poor chumps, because that's what we are. We need people like FFS and Fletcher to market the club and develop it properly off the pitch. It's a disaster off the pitch. Fletcher made Rangers the richest club in Europe at one point, he came to the toon and made us 5th richest in Europe within seven years. We have fuck all marketing or fuck all PR, we should be exploiting markets abroad, because the fanbase is there. We have a fanclub in places you've never even dreamed of like Singapore with 2,000 members. We have nothing off the pitch we're devalued, and talking about FFS and brothels is more or less like saying "I don't have a clue", because it's irrelevant. We need a team of Fletcher's and proper people who are going to promote the club. It's dying in that regard, pisses me off when tools can't see it. Nearly everyone I know committed friends, people at the match, agree with and uphold everything I say, other than one or two. The only ones I see a degree of support for this disgusting regime are on the internet. Say nee more. -

Sorry Stevie but that's shite - the only way to increase turnover that much would have been by success on the pitch and ground expansion - how likely was that in 2007? We still had a degree of self esteem in 2007. Our turnover with the additional masses of Sky money since then, it would be £120m+ that is a fact, we're ran like a corner shop, and it'll still be £90m for this season. 07/08 season ticket sell out and we didn't need 6500 cheap family tickets to do it, because the fans still believed we were going somewhere, and at least had a strategy and a target of a minimum of European football every year. Well done for missing my whole point entirely anyway. Lets put it like this, if the Queen and Prince Phillip turned out in Camden Market on Sunday wearing a hoody and a pair of hi tec trainers, and they were photographed in all the papers. The whole world would think what are these bamps playing at, and we thought they were regal. Well that's what Ashley has systematically done to this club, we have nothing no core, we have no self esteem, no one talking us up with any degree of sincerity we're a fuckin disaster, it's a miracle we have more than 30,000 wanting to go. -

So where'd the money come from to make this assault on the top 4 (or top 2 according to you). I'd love to know. I can't abide Ashley personally, but I do appreciate his moolah. I'm sick of these threads. Yous talk about the same pish, day after day, regurgitating the same shite. A lot of what people say is right, but if this was a prison, I reckon 5 would be murdered with 6 month because people would just got sick of the monotony of the same arguments and the same people saying the same thing. This thread is supposed to be about Andy Carroll for fuck sake. Anyway the bit I've highlighted. Leazes has explained his position 100 times, and I agree with him, and Brummiemag raises the same quite correct points. You see Shepherd, regardless what you think of him our turnover was £97m in 2003, the 8th best in world football. If we'd continued on that level our turnover would be £150m EASILY now, the club would've continued to grow and could've QUITE FUCKIN EASILY become part of the Champions League closed shop which with Chelsea, Man Utd, Arsenal and Liverpool existed for 5 years largely speaking. Liverpool took our place, or the place that should've been ours. So it's no good saying, how do you find the money, where do you get the money. The club has been so fucked up since 2004, and even worse from 2007, that we fucked it up. Shepherd had the foresight, self esteem, ambition and belief, to talk Newcastle up as being one of the best clubs in Europe. In many ways we were. A classic example is our sponsorship with NTL was worth more to the club 10 years ago, than our deal with Northern Rock is now, that's not even adding the inflation factor and expanse of global marketing. Shepherd was negotiating a deal with Mansion House in his last season that would've saw us pocket £6m a year, he NEVER devalued Newcastle United, he made sure we were a blue chip club in most respects, and he knew our worth. These wanks in charge now, are running us like a cheap and grotty out of town cheap clothes shop. We're worth little because we don't have anyone promoting the values of the club. We're leaderless and directionless. The actual turnover isn't the problem, at a club with a fanbase of maybe 100,000 people who would be willing and able to watch a successful Newcastle United, the turnover is never the problem. If it is run right, promoted right, and fuckin valued by the most important people of all (whether we like it or not) the owners and leaders of the club, the turnover follows. It's ludicrous that we can go from a position of having a turnover £30m more than Tottenham to £25m less than them in 8 years, but that is how fucked up the club is and like I say it stems from the mission statement, and the message these fuckin flids put out which is "yeah we're a grotty pishy corner shop operation, but as long as we get our money back we don't give a fuck". It's laughable, even down to the pathetic shirts we wear, do you think FFS would've let the club turn out looking like a bunch of fuckin absolute bamps. We look like Notts County man. I remember when FFS gave us all a free scarf, he had 40000 made, he took one look at them and said fuck that they're not getting that trash, and he did things properly in that regard. The esteem of the club is the key thing, the owners treat us like we're not much more than commodity which doesn't need nurturing because they have 45000 daft cunts like me who will go regardless what happens. Pathetic cunts like you get told face to face, you're a WUM with no comprehension of the value of what the club in effect should be worth. -

Cole, Baggio, Bergkamp, Ferdinand, Shearer, Ronaldo, Kluivert, Owen - these were all strikers we either signed or seriously looked at the possibility of signing them in our life times. Now we're going to have to be grateful for Carlton Cole. It's one of these buys you just KNOW FOR A FACT, that it's not going to work out but we're still going to do it. The last time I was more certain of someone flopping was when Souness took over from Sir Bobby. 9 COLE shame he's not fit to wipe the arse of the last one to have that on his shirt. I just don't know who we can sign to be honest, but please not him. I don't know who would want to come here who's really class. I'd love Llorente, but he's going to want to play for a CL team, and this Gervinho who I personally think is pish has turned his nose up at us, let him. I honest to god think we should go for someone who's about 32 or 33 like Drogba, who is rumoured to be leaving Chelsea, cos that's the best we can do, there's no really top 22-28 year old going to want to come and play up front for us. Edit I'd rather fuckin Kuqi signed a 5 year deal than us get this N'Gog, an embarrassment of a player. -
Is it bad that I haven't got a clue who any of them are? Worse , that I haven't a clue who the sponsor is? Is it not the fish 'n' chip people ?? Oh no, after a quick google, it's even better than that… Clicky I did the same when I saw the pic. I was thinking small time Boro, it's like the toon being sponsored by Gormans.
-
I tell you who was shite but I used to like Lua Lua. He was shit for the toon in terms of product, but when he came on you didn't know what he was going to do, and neither did he, anything could happen. Leverkusen away in the CL was his best game, him and Shola were like Lineker and Beardsley that neet.
-
I saw him against Celtic and told all me pals he was the best signing since Bellamy That game against Celtic he looked quick energetic, he was spraying first time balls 50 yards to feet, I thought at last we have a top centre midfielder. Dear me, by the time he left I felt as bad about him as I did about Babayaro. I read an interview with FFS saying Babayaro was the most disgraceful employee he'd seen in 40 years of his working life. I thought this thread was about players who were shite who you had a soft spot for anyway.
-
See that Lee Ryder's blocked me. I think I criticised one report he did, and that was it. Journalists shouldn't be in that game if they can't face constructive criticism. I've got a shit reputation on Twitter like, half like me, and half hate me. The younguns hate me, the older ones think I'm ok. It's my own fault if I see someone talking pish I comment, I can't help myself. Simpsongate, who speaks to me reasonably all the time now, didn't help.
