just a thought.......could it have anything to do with the fact I'm running a windows xp upgrade installation from an original windows 98 disk using the w98 internet "key number" ????????? Nah. On your email. Am I right in saying that you're using webmail (gmail / googlemail in this case) and forwarding it on to your regular mail software (like outlook) ? If so, maybe this will help That talks about googlemails POP settings. No matter what browser you use, it should have nothing to do with your email. (Someone correct me if Im wrong like). So, whether you change to Firefox or chrome or safari, it doesnt matter, thats just the window you look at the web world with You mail client (outlook) just needs the settings from your webmail (google) to run. I think.

Our 'aim' should always be europe as it's the only way to attract top players. please tell us how it is possible to do this without paying the going rate ie top dollar, and how many clubs are doing it without being in debt There's a massive difference in paying the rate and paying massively over the odd. Doing the latter you end up with one of the largest wage bills in the league and fighting relegation. Freddy was a big fan of buy a teams best player and in doing so we ended up paying massively over the odd. Until we hit europe we should be looking for teams that need/want to sell or players that can't make the first team as they have better ahead of them. There are plenty of players out their that fit this bill. apart from that actually being a good policy there is no justification for making such a comment, unless you can prove it and also give examples. I can give you lots that were without question players of the managers choice and also proved to be very good buys, most of whom were young and had their best years in front of them which kills stone dead another myth that has done the rounds about our transfer policy during those years. The high wage bills and our league positions are well documented, so it aint a myth. For me, the master plan was working fine. The high wages were all fine. We were regularly in Europe, we were alot of people second team and we were getting so damn close. Then we played Partizan. Downhill from there really. No one was complaining of the high earners then. But we dropped like a pebble. For that, you have to look at the managers. So many decisions were wrong. Not just the managers either. Who picked the manager? Who kept their powder dry? I dont think its as simple as saying it was one persons fault. I think the whole decline has been a combination of board, managers and players. We needed someone to come and say "STOP, turn this shit around". But it never. Sam tried to be different but I think it was too late. Then Ashley happened and the ground just opened under us. He was meant to be the one to turn it around, instead he was the one to give us the final push. For the record, I dont think it was ALL his fault. I think someone had his ear and was advising him really really fucking badly. Now I think he's doing it his way, running it like one of his 2bob shops. Not 100% a bad thing at this moment. But not something you could continue with if you ever aspired to get the club back up.

LIke I said. Stan Seymour and Joe Harvey. you cant talk about our top managers without mentioning those. We're talking win ratio here though, not success. Plus, should a win mean more in the top division than in a lower league? Its all damn lies and statistics.

Barton, Nolan, Smith, Jonas, Enrique and Coloccini. Not to mention Geremi who we've only just shifted and only then because he was nearly out of contract (wouldn't be surprised if we paid the rest of his contract off in order to get rid). All on Ashley's watch. My estimates would be; 50k Smith 60k Barton 35k Nolan 50k Jonas 30k Enrique 40k Coloccini total of 13.78m a year. I doubt anyone else in the squad is on over 25k. Even if you over estimate the squad wages it's hard to get them over 30m. This is a far cry from the £70m last year. When you take into account our income of £100m last year. We are definately in a good position to rebuild. I reckon they're conservatives estimates not even taking into account the likes of Nacho and Xisco. He's signed average players on average wages since we went down but that's hardly what I'd call 'playing hardball' on every contract. Obviously the wage bill is down now but that's just a necessity due to relegation. Also, Milner is brought up a lot and it was good money, but we got peanuts for Given even though the richest club in the whole fucking world were after him so I don't agree with you there. Guthrie is on 5k, Bassong was on 5k. S.Taylor contact talks dragged on for ages, as did Michael Owens. Sounds like he's shrewd. Also, if you look at the money we got in for the players, i think he did quite well given all the buying clubs knew we had to sell. 9m Martins, 9m for Bassong, 4m for Duff (i'd have let him go for free at the end of last season), 2m Beye. As for Given, I didn't mind his sale and thought 8m was probably as much as we'd have gotten. The real issue for me was not including Michael Johnson as part of the deal, or spending the money, but thats a footballing debate not a financial one. The point is the books are in a better shape, most of the deadwood is gone, and wages are low enough we can add to the squad without incurring debt. Things are looking up. What aims do you think Newcastle United should have, as the 3rd biggest supported club in the country ? I'll answer that, top 6 in the Prem. I think that should always be our minimum aim. On the players, Given going for under £7M when gordon was bought for what, £9M? Given might not be the best keeper but he is the most consistent I reckon. They got him for a steal. I do actually agree that we got rid of many players that we should have, the high earners. I also agree that in the past we have maybe punched above our weight in wages. But we had to. Without that investment we would never (or rather unlikely) have made the Champions League. It think that dreams gone now and we need to be aiming for Europe / Uefa Cup (oh ok Europa league). But now lets be realistic. Where should we aim as NUFC and where should we aim with Ashley at the helm are two very different questions imo. Next season though is all about staying up. Ashley has spent the money before, but I cant see him doing it now. He will want to keep the high earners off the books to make the club more attractive to sell. Yes, he does still want to sell.

First google mail is an internet based mail host so it shouldnt matter what browser you use to access it. Reading on, if you're accessing these via outlook, using aPOP3 account, your browser still has no baring on the set up. What settings exactly get messed up? If you add a new browser all it should do is import favourites etc, its got nothing to do with how you connect to the web. That would be under control panel and network connections or something?

Rather pedantic, but I wouldnt say most successful but with best win ratio. Most successful I'm not sure, maybe Stan Seymour?

Id say is as much of a blow Routledge being out as it is Butt being fit

District 9 Its about Africa / Jo-burg - Aliens have arrived and are being held in a fenced off camp. They have adopted human ways and you have a mix of local gangsters and the aliens with plenty of crime etc. The aliens are kinda biped insects. Its a very tongue in cheek film, but easy to watch and have a laugh from.

I assume because the club isnt self financing. Though how I'll never know. Because we are in the CCC and revenue is alot less than what it would be in PL. Yeah, but overheads are much lower, we get a support payments for dropping down and sold off a fair few players for decent cash? We had people pay for 3 seasons tickets giving good up front revenue, we've supposedly paid off / refinanced loans so we pay less interest and we still pull in 40k people per week. We've been on the TV more times than most teams this season also. See my point? When you put it like that mate i agree completely tbh. It then makes me ask why the fuck didnt we spend more in the window!? Oh yeah because he's a cunt. Well, tbf, the window wasnt that bad and short term I agree with sensible spending. Im more worried long term. Will Ashley have the same policy if we get promoted? Still the £15K cap? I fear his aim is to find young talent, hope to develop them and then sell for a good profit with a sell on clause just in case. All this while "surviving" in the Prem. Whoopdefuckingdo. Aiming for Europe I doubt we will be.

Aye be canny if they can hang on to that over WBA

Aye. I sit in the SJH and in the first half theere was acres of space down that side. When we had the ball we tended to play up the middle or out to Jonas. when it did come over and simpson had it, Guthrie should have been into that space like shit off a stick but instead he remained pretty central. Im a firm believer in using the whole width of the pitch, especially if you have pacey wingers but even if not pulling wide drags a defender away. I wasnt that impressed by Best. Just dont see anything in his game. Id rather see Ranger myself but think he suffers from Best being CH's signing.

As soon as I open a thread and see a shit load of quotes, I kinda know its a bullshit contest.

Recent articles suggested that Mike will not buy players earning >£15K are >26yr old and must have a sell on clause. So basically we'll be a selling club lining his pockets. Hardly the makings of a club that aspires to be in europe.

I dont disagree about the shiteness of the league, and I dont think the team is anything special, and I think Ashley is a cunt, but I dont think the team is any worse than last seasons bunch of shite - and they only got relegated because they really tried hard to. I think the current bunch might just be able to eke out enough points to stay up. The are probably better than Burnley and on a level with Bolton/Blackburn/Wolves /Portsmouth and certainly no worse tahn the other two teams who get promotion. We might stay up we might not, we will probably end up up yoyoing (?) between the prem and the championship with stupidly big crowds and Ashley pocketing a fortune. I almost hope we dont go up see what I mean Lot of season ticket holders and a lot on the 3 year scheme. Should we be poor next season, with a lack of ambition/evidence of trying to make forward progress (and especially if we go down, assuming we go up of course) and I think there'd be a significant fall in attendances. I think they'd still be decent like. Is a very good point, when the 3 year deal runs out don't expect people to flock to matches when they have a choice in what they've paid for. What guts me most is that we have to look up and aspire to being as good as teams like villa, Everton and Spurs... I mean granted Spurs are probably the biggest of the three but I still don't see the other two as anything special as actual clubs, it feels shite to have bow down to them, they're nothing clubs (Stevie would be proud of me saying that ) This is what a couple of us were saying yesterday. I wonder how many out of the crowd are on the 3 year ticket? I then wonder how many of those, once it is up at the end of next season will renew? Im one of them, and Im seriously weighing my commitments. Two kids now and its getting harder to justify going to the game. More so when some twat is having my eyes out for the pleasure.

He done ok tbf, I can recall a specific impect he made on at least two of the goals.
-
So is the second one decent then? Ive not played either but someone said to me I should play the first one before the second. That necessary? and you think the games worth it? I usually like RPGs like Morrowind etc and isnt this a it like KotOR?

Hughton is the man that needs replacing once we go up and you will see a difference. Only Carroll and Routledge havent had REGULAR PL or top league experience out of our 1st team tbh. Routledge played a full season for crystal palace in the prem in 2005 i believe. was really good aswell for them as i recall. I thought that but wasnt sure, that and how much he played for spurs. Only backs my point that our 1st team by majority has the basis for a good PL team. Of course we neeed quality additions though. By good i mean lower mid-table. Top 4 = Brilliant 5-8 = Very good 9-12 = Good 13-16 = Decent 17-20 = Poor Just my opinion...that team + GOOD manager + Financial backing = Good team Just my opinion agree with all of your sentiments but tbf Routledge broke his foot(?) in his 1st pre season for spurs and that set him back big time. added to that you had the emergence of Aaron Lennon who was on fire that season. not saying he's a brilliant player (Routledge) but i reckon he's a low to mid prem level player easily which is pretty much the best we can hope for atm. I really don't like bursting the bubble of those who have accepted lower standards but you are quite right. Leazes mate i dont think ANYONE has accepted "lower standards" as you put it. Do you honestly think anyone who calls themselves a newcastle fan is happywith seeing our side in the CCC, add to that do you think they like to see our club with an average "cheap" option manager and every window lookin for bargain basement signings? NO. We all are typically an ambitious bunch, we all enjoy seeing ourside in the PL and CL, challenging the big clubs for quality signings and domestic cups....but we ALL know this is what it is...for now. Relegation has given us a wake up call and the chance to build our club up from the bottom, long gone are the days of token signings like Owen and Luque like your mates signed and got us into financial difficulty. And now we look to a future where we can build slowly and sensibly. Villa and Everton and to some extent though i hate saying it Spurs should be the inspiration...if we even needed it. We will return to the PL, we will return to europe, we will once again sign quality players but its going to be a long process...at least when we get there we will hopefully be able to sustain it. Not under the current ownership.

Id agree. the current side would get taken apart by most premiership teams. I mean come on, we struggle against most top championship sides.
