    Coast to Coast

Cheers to the latest additions Had my first day training for the walk yesterday. Walked from Haltwhistle to Lambley Viaduct up the old rail line. Then acros the pennine route for a bit (moorland) and back down the side of the south tyne (I think). Was about 10 mile in all and took 4 1/2 hours. Mid week I'll be training for the run starting with a 3 mile run on monday.

Thanks for the donations all, and thanks for the sticky Really do appreciate it. Prob going to start a wee blog as well so everyone can laugh at my attempts to get fit. Oh, and it seems the minimum on that site is a few quid, didnt realise
  3. Wait! Dont close the thread just yet. I'm doing a coast to coast walk at the end of May 09. Solway to Wallsend, 84 mile over 5 days. Then Im doing the great north run at the end of september. I'm doing this for charity in aid of the Sunshine Fund Sunshine Fund provides specially adapted equipment, custom built apparatus or special learning aids, for children with disabilities or special needs, to improve the quality of their lives. The fund is helping North East children in special schools, learning units, hospitals and also individual families. So, I'm asking all of you to give even just £1 or £0.50 to my Justgiving page. I know times are very tough for some at the minute and I certainly don't expect anything from anyone. But, these people do a fantastic job and I'd just ask that if anyone can, no matter how small, do. Im starting training from tomorrow. Doing a 10mile walk around Haltwhistle. Running I'm starting training from next week with 3 mile run and I'll be builidng up to around 10 mile by august. Feel free to take the piss or add any tips for either

  5. Bollocks to reading the "Good TV tonight" thread a day after it was posted
  6. Im sure we've had this before Posting shite for ever more No matter the time Trying to think of a rhyme till it eventually becomes a bore..
  7. Heard something last night that said smear tests on the back of this are up 20%. Not a bad thing imo. I've slated the lass in the past, but this is bloody awful. Really makes you stand back and think. I do though find the whole media thing a bit sick actually. But, thats the nature of the beast I guess.
  8. Depends. Local office is about 30mins in, 45 mins home depending what time I want to get in. Warrington office takes me 3hrs down and 2 1/2 hours back. Glasgow office about the same.
  9. It is a good indicator to most people. I find a better indicator is just to look at your gut... But aye, if you do mostly any kind of training then its a waste of time.

    Are you religious?

So is Islam the new black then! For the thread itself i am and always have been an atheist, just seemed the only intelligent option to me. My parents did what i think all good parents should and left the decision completely up to me, were willing to answer any questions i had on the subject and provide any books or anything if i wanted but never forced any of their beliefs or views on me and were happy with whatever i decided upon. Is utter bollocks tbf. Its a decision I mulled over for some time. I had an arguement in my head for getting him christened and for letting him decide himself. Fact is, you can change your religion. So thye can do what they want when older anyway. Just like on here with many christened but not practicing. Religious or not, christened or not, its how your parents parent that makes them good at it, fuck all to do with getting kids christened or not. I think most parents would say that they would leave the choice up to their kids when they are old enough to make an informed choice. That applies to those christened (to any religion) and those not christened at all. I certainly wouldnt label either "the only intelligent choice". Its very much a personal decision to each family. I am though againt people getting kids christened for the sake of a piss up and a few sausage rolls.
  11. Great stuff fella! Congrats. Im only a few years behind you and my bairns just over 1 now. One hell of a ride

and yet man could wipe out the most of the worlds suffering. If man looked at itself as one being, one thing, it could share wealth, make everyone equal, forget about personal gain or satisfaction and help those is need. Of course, there is as much chance of seeing a God than this actually happening. but, fact remains, why would a God help if we cannot help ourself? Mind, Im thinking on the grander scale here. Wars, starvation etc man has a hand in. a tsunami that wipes out thousands is a different arguement Many might argue that mans constant neglect and misuse of life brings this on himself. God, supposedly, created man in his own image. I don't believe in God anyway though. But, due to that bitch Eve, we chose to have our eyes opened and eat the apple. Still, I like apples and I like the freewill it brought. Aledgedly. I'd rather get back to the idea of only humanity being able to save itself. Not God, no Jesus or any other mumbo jumbo. It's just lazy thinking imo. Religion that is. Well, I agree. As I said at the start, I dont think any God can influence day to day things, only bring comfort or help someone deal with something in their own mind. But, my point was more to why doesnt God (any God) stop suffering. If there was a God and he had such power, it would be a bit rich us asking when we do fuck all about it ourselves.

  16. -2 across that route over night like, and it's notorious for accidents when it's been snowing. I know what you mean about M1 M62 though, the most interesting thing about the journey is seeing Bellend Road. Aye, fucking fatal route the a66 when its foggy as well. Caught me out a few times. Esp when you turn off at Brough and cut through Kirby Stephen to the m6.
  17. Nah, would never take off...
  18. Ive got to drive to Liverpool from 6am. Usually go across the A66. Reckon the rain will wash it away or turn it to slush anyway. Id rather risk the a66 than go M1-M62 which has to be one of the most boring journeys around.

    Are you religious?

Im Catholic. I'm quite interested in history though (fuck me I some a boring twat). I'm not so sure religions can co-exist. Certain ones anyway. Catholics (the people, not the religion itself) had been pretty much abused over the centuries (Im thinking the crusades and so on). I think the essence of most religions are good, its the people in control of them that are fucked up and abuse their position. I see most as a very personal thing and wouldnt hold someones beliefs against them so long as its not harmful to another. I respect the views of most. Most religion will help people live with hard times etc and cope with the general day to day shite. I dont actually think anyones God can influence our day to day being. But can help people cope with self belief etc. Something like that anyway. I'd need to get back on the smoke to answer it properly ....
  20. Here's a few of my fave's The Talisman - Peter Straub / Stephen King Once - James Herbert River God - Wilbur Smith
  21. ML280. Up for renewal in a month or so though. Cracking drive like. Sat nav in it is a bit shit though. Or at least its just a bit mental.
