  1. Yeah but by the time the window closes we could have already been beat by Man U & Arsenal You think buying 3-4 players will change that?
  2. Yes, it would have been nice to have had more players in by now. But, the window is open for ages yet. Season starts in a few weeks. There is still time. Even if we get 4 players in (I reckon we'll only get two) we'll still have a small squad. There's a time to panic, but its not yet.
  3. As ever, this whole saga is made up from opinions based on articles and head lines like this. Id like to see him on a lower wage but with more incentive built in. Around fitness, goals and league position.
  4. Executive director insinuates that he is in charge of the footballing vision and strategy of your club, top to bottom. Ok, look. Telegraph: Times: Getting the picture yet? You are describing a stereo-typical Director of Football. If he was a typical Executive Director (of Football) then you would also expect him to look after everything football. But he's not. His title may be Executive Director [Football] which separates him from the other commercial aspects of the business that an Executive Director may look after. Thing is, there is no hard written rule that says this [role title] must do this [job description]. The role is exactly what Ashley wants it to be. In this case, reading news reports, its seem its is connected to transfers, scouting and youth, but not day to day first team affairs. Call him ED[F], or call him a DoF. It matters not at all. His role is as above, no matter what badge you stick on him. Which is exactly what I said. He wont get involved with coaching but he is in charge of transfers which affects the first team does it not? What you have described above is a DOF role. I dont disagree with you all together. He is called Exec director but yes, his role would be more or less as a stereo typical DoF but of course each post may differ slightly. Mind, thats not what the thread was about. Its whether he would be effective in that role.
  5. In today's market it's not excessive for a player with his experience in the PL. For a 28 year old with little resale value it's a lot. Probably a better deal than ours for Owen tbf. I agree. I think he's got 4 seasons left in the tank and will be a great link up player for Stevie, Torres, Babel, N'gog and Kyut ... and maybe Barry. In hindsight yes, not necessarily at the time.
  6. Id have him here in a shot like. Mind, not for £20M

  8. Im not so sure. Very similar yes. Exactly the same? no. I dont think he is involved with first team affairs. A DoF is. Otherwise its similar in respect of Youth team and scouting etc. A DoF might look after a certain budget, not sure if Wise is.
  9. You need to get your fonts sorted like. Times is so last year.
  10. The lack of image sin this thread is disgusting Edit : that was meant to be images in. Maybe i'm giving myself subliminal messages ....
  11. This is the one thing that just doesnt sit with me. Like many I raised an eyebrow when Wise was appointed. But, maybe unlike many, I was willing to give him a shot. After all, our fall from grace has been so rapid and so far that I dont think we can really hum and har about appointments any more and a change in ways is perhaps what we needed. Anyway, this said, many signings of old under KK came because KK persuaded them to. He's a motivator, he makes players feel loved. I very much doubt we would have signed Rob Lee, Ginola or Asprilla but for KKs input. I wouldnt go as far to say why have KK when its one thing recruiting and another managing. However, I would say that recruiting was one of KKs strengths so why not use it?
  12. The modern meaning of "tacky" was invented in that place. In fact, you could find every meaning of the word in there. The decor, the revolving dance floor everything. All tacky and tacky. And that Blue wkd man, blood hell, I hate alco pops anyway, but thats like some kind of sweetened washing up liquid.
  13. After today, that rusting eye sore thats sits on the haed side of the tyne will be no more. The Tux is being towed away eventually to end up in Greece. The only downside is we now need somewhere else to send the Scousers when they come up and ask where they should go for a night out.
  14. We did? Odd that, as I only missed one home game last season and dont recall that many?
  15. Hmm, lets see Mrs Gaigy - Bitch. Used to nip your neck with her vice like finger nail grip. Thats when I was about 8! Mrs Brown - We used to call her Fat Molly Brown. She was called molly and yes in deed she was fat. She once got a lad suspended for opening two doors for her Remember when in her Maths class I got wrong for messing around and as I walk walking away back to my seat she screamed at me and sent me to the "unit" because she seem my ears raise so knew I was smiling
  16. Isnt he and Chimbonda getting their medicals today? I dont think either would improve what we have, so no thanks.
  17. Well, Im going on recent seasons. KK has been out of it but both Moyes and Redknapp have done canny of late.
  18. Id like to see what Ramos does in say 2 seasons before judging him. I reckon he'll do well though. I think you have to credit 'Arry for what he's done with Portsmouth. KK done well with Newcastle, very well. Done less with City and Fulham but also with less cash. I thought Moyes had fucked it a couple of seasons back but he turned them around quite spectacularly. I think we need to see if KK still has it and how he does this time around. So, at the moment Id go 'Arry > Moyes but could be Ramos or KK in amongst those two soon.
  19. Canny article this time around. While I think I can see what MA is doing, and maybe he has got KK, DW etc to buy into this idea, I think its proving harder than they thought to buy well. This is made harder by the amount of dead wood we have. I can't begin to imagine what Barton, Geremi & Smith are on, but Id hazard guess that if we shipped those three out, we could get 4-5 in and remain where we are on wages. Another problem I think is that our TO/Wages ratio used to be good, however that income included CL money which we havent had for a while. Yet, under FFS I dont think we tried to reduce our wages since dropping out of the CL, but rather increase them to try and get back. Spectacular failure after failure took us out of Europe all together. All the while our income would plummit yet continue to attract players with lucrative deals (Luque) who simply were not good enough. We need these players moved on if they cannot offer solid first team performances and replacing with players who will. Yet, we have a small squad already. So, I can see why its tough for KK trying to get MA's vision in place. Yet again, I see this as a season of re-building But, I remain optimistic about the future and see a light at the end of the tunnel (unless its the 3pm train to London).
  20. Id love to see him here but not for that money. No way. Edit : Not that he'd come
