Hughes is much older than most footballers now, and he joined Blackburn as a player in Division One, he has earnt his respect at that club by getting them up, and as a manger saving them from relegation, you can't argue that is the same as giving Shearer respect because he's a Geordie. Plus, Hughes' career as a player outstrips most players who are ever going to sign for Blackburn.
