And if people dont think they attract tourists, you are very wrong. The coverage of the wedding and the baby on French TV can only be described as breathless. Everyone talking about it in the office.

The Royals are meant to cost 40m but they estimate 200m and their source for 100m of that is the Daily Mail and Mirror How robust. There is nothing to justify the nearly 40m from lost Duchy revenues either. So its bound to be more than 40m but their methods look dodgy If 100,000 people decide to come to Britain and spend 400 pounds then that covers the 40m. I'm also interested in their cultural value. I'm not a Royalist but i'm not a Republican either and i'm sure that some things in cultural terms have a value that is hard to capture.

It seems to me people's views cant be distinguished from their distaste for some billionaire's daughter who inherited a load of land and money and does fuck all for it. Boo-hoo.

If you believe you have the moral right to seize it then you give the moral right to someone to seize it from you.

Its astounding that you claim they have. I'm quite supportive of some of Charles' environmental and architectural views.

Yeah jaw dropping. Some laws were delayed. So NJS, your problem is inherited wealth? Ok comrade

Compulsory euthanasia is not a morally equivalent scenario. Also the idea that the France and USA have more tourism than the UK, therefore the Royal family doesn't attract tourists, is definitely the stupidest thing I've seen you post

How fundamentally wrong inherited position is? That cant be the issue. The King of Sweden inherits his position.

How much value comes from culture? For example, how important was 60's British music in maintaining the relevance and strength of British culture in the world over the past few decades? British identity and culture helps to sell all sorts of British products, services and media. I think it's hard to capture that in any meaningful way until you take it away. I don't see the point in them but i am unconvinced by any argument that says they are a burden.

What's the cost-benefit of the Royals in terms of tourism value vs cost of their upkeep?

The one near Jardin de Luxembourg. You are 5 mins walk away from Saint Germain, the cafes, bars etc around rue de buci / rue de seine are lush. Also close to Boulevard St Michel for loads of pubs, bars and late night going out places. The metro from Mabillon will take you to the Eiffel Tower. Good for ile de la cite, not so great for champs élysées and grand palais etc but its not exactly far. The city itself is surprisingly small. You're also near Le Relais D'Entrecote just next to St Germain metro which is the best steak and chips in the world and a great experience for eating. (20 rue saint-Benoit - you can't book and there is no menu for starter or main, you only get to choose how the steak is cooked). Take a walk through the park, past the Pantheon, towards Place Monge, jardins des plantes and you end up at the Quai where Concrete is, one of the best house / tecni nights in Europe

It's not much better tonight, am sat in front of the fan and as soon as I move away am dripping like the proverbial fridge. I guess this is a stupid question but is the only portable option one with a tube going out of an open window? The model they had was the only one left in stock, they were all sold out!

I wish they'd hurry up, the temperature hasnt dropped below 26 at night here for a week. Last night it was 29 at 11pm. I rang up a store yesterday to enquire about the air conditioning units. They only had one model left and it was 600 notes. I thought if those storms arrive in the next hours, its not worth it for this year (although potentially a canny investment if global warming brings more summers like this). Have settled for a basic 'football supporter' instead © peasepud.

His face afterwards!

Of course he can do all that and have an issue with Wonga. Qualifies him 100% as a hypocrite too.

When we were kids, we had a week in the lakes in a nice caravan park. It was all stationary caravans hidden behind trees with semi-private spaces. It was on the shore of Windermere and had sailing dinghies and canoes etc. It was like a chapter out of Swallows and Amazons, great times.

The 9th can be really nice, it just depends what you want to do. Its very central and walking distance to the grand magasins, opera, etc but not served by the metro that well. You dont want to be walking around much in this heat (34c). Its also handy for all the sex shops etc in Pigalle (and therefore the beautiful and pleasing Montmartre) I was looking at apartments in Saint-Georges and Notre-Dame de Lorette, both charming quartiers with nice shops, bars and cafes with access to line 12 on the metro. If you stay in the 9th, stay near a line 12 metro and in Saint-Georges, Notre Dame de Lorette, or near Trinity Church. Hotel Amour does a lush brunch, is quite trendy, cant vouch for the rooms but its in the right area. Hotel Antin Saint- Georges just done up and looks nice.

Yes that a FACT.
