Is it Scotch? Is it whisky? Is it Scotch whisky?
ChezGiven replied to sammynb's topic in General Chat
Aye, I'm sure I would have. I nearly bought the Corryvreckan the other day in Fenwick's but was pleased I didn't as when I read up on it afterwards it said it was a lightly peated version which seems to miss the point a bit for an Ardbeg whisky. Meant to be the peatiest whisky on the market, 100 phenols per million or whatever it is. They are pricey and you're paying for the packaging, beautifully done but the price must be bumped up because of it. I think Bruichladdich's Octomore is peatier although not as widely available. I think the last release was 140ppm or something like that. That's getting on for £100 a bottle as well I think. Haven't tried it like. It's my current aim to try a whisky older than I am. I better get my skates on like. The closest I've come is an independently bottled (by Bladnoch) 30 y.o. cask strength Caol Ila, which was bloody fantastic. I tried to buy some more but it's long gone. They had some 25 y.o. too which I bought but that's sold out now too. I've had a brandy older than my mam, a couple bottled the year i was born but the oldest whisky i've had was a glass of 40 year old Highland Park in a club in London run by a certain D. Llambias I had that 30 year old Glenfiddich last year, finished that off on christmas day night, which was nice. The 40 year version of that is £2000 so no chance on that one. -
Moving jobs? A nurse in a euthanasia clinic? Cheeky bastard. Eh? It was just an example of a moving job.

You'd have loved that Supernova. I found that at 60% it needed a drop of water but i preferred the taste, it seemed to get sweeter to me. Not as strong a peaty flavour as you'd expect but very nice and better than the Corryvreckan imo. -
Not yet but soon, very soon. Definitely....

Not saying much tbf Actually thinking about that, it might have to include Barbour, so its not too bad. Its £60m for the regeneration anyway. An economic impact assessment shows that tourism in South Tyneside is worth £207.5 million http://www.southtyneside.info/CHttpHandler...id=2453&p=0 North Tyneside's is higher and supports more employment my google padwan http://www.newcastlegateshead.com/xsdbimgs...tors%202010.pdf http://www.newcastlegateshead.com/xsdbimgs...tors%202010.pdf

Aye, so they're spending over a quarter of that total economic worth on one building. An economic impact assessment isnt a measure of production either. An impact assessment includes external and indirect benefits, valued spuriously by the powerpoint author. 'Sooth Shield vs Whitley' > 'Old board vs New board' tbh

Catch up? Whitley Bay was the only destination in the North East for about a century. Anyway, Cullercoats and Tynemouth are the top coastal destinations in Tyne & Wear.

It's without doubt, one of the top ten iconic images anywhere on this island. Fuckin South Shields, full of bamps, poormans Whitley Bay and that's saying something. Whitley Bay is a shit hole that hasnt moved on since the 80's Spanish city ffs More money about to be ploughed into it than the whole GDP of South Tyneside. Taken a long time but they finally got there. Not saying much tbf Actually thinking about that, it might have to include Barbour, so its not too bad. Its £60m for the regeneration anyway.

Sir alex may have drank too much in the past but not anymore i reckon (and probably did when they were doing shit too). Its Bruce's bloated podgy face man, its the face of an alkie. Sir Alex had a whisky nose, its not so bad nowadays.

Even if he hasnt, one thing that strikes me about Bruce is that he drinks too much to manage a modern premiership side. A job of that magnitude, with all the dimensions to the modern role, the decision-making and analytical responsibilities, i'd say one or two beers of an evening would be too much for a high pressured role like that. The fact that he has an alkie's face/nose and is always cropping up in stories of him in some bar or another mortal, suggests he is not fit to do the job. Imo.

I'm sure everyone on here fails to understand the appeal but ST council played an absolute blinder when they came up with the "Cookson Country" shit - other places should probably follow that model if they can. Not sure that was the issue on the key properties which are the problem. There are 5 big derelict buildings which have suffered because of interference from the council (The High Point hotel) through to the inability to get the private owner to sell/invest or do anything (The Avenue pub, the council had to sue the owner to get him to board it up at one point). There are those two, whisky bends as mentioned, that old club on the Esplanade (fingered the odd lass in there back in the day, odd being the operative word), Burnside hotel, and the dome. Apart from that, Whitley is alright, its just those buildings are in such prominent position on the front that everyone notices them.

So instead o0f being about how one of our central midfielders has been improving his overall body strength and fitness with a hard and toughening regime of sparring in the boxing ring, its about how he whiled away his time watching box sets Watching all seasons of Desperate Housewives does show a certain level of committed dedication tbf.

With them eyes? More like Dr Jekyll.

HF, nothing depresses me more than the state of the front at whitley bay now. It starts at the old whisky bends and includes many properties along to the the old Avenue pub and the now decrepit Spanish city. I've got some lush photos of what used to look like 80 to 100 years ago and the decline is just terrible. I'd like to blame North Tyneside council but am not sure what they could have done. However, apart from that stretch from Esplanade to Marine Avenue, its a fantastic stretch of coast when you take into account Longsands, Cullercoats, Whitley beach north of the Spanna and then the Lighthouse, Seaton Sluice etc. South Shields aspires to be nowt better than what it is, Whitley let the old front commercial usages go to rack and ruin because it was no longer that type of place since the Jocks go to Benidorm for their holidays now rather than Whitley and the resultant tackiness of the place made it a destination for North Shields on a day trip rather than all sorts from all over the region. There are 4 or 5 major reconstruction jobs required to transform the area back to respectable but that would cost money that is only there at present for the dome.

I have a few framed photos of the north east at home which i bought from the biscuit factory, the sunset on Bamburgh beach takes pride of place. CT clearly on the wind up.

I should have said 70/80 goals in 150 starts not games. If he had started 150 games for us it would have meant he wasnt injured. The way he played for us before the injury i'd have bet on him to get those sort of figures. He got 13 from 20 starts at Madrid. The blokes a twat but that injury fucked him and the rest of his career.
