  1. I agree with this whilst disagreeing with it a bit as well. Had we had a tad better luck with injuries, a half decent transfer window and the avoidance of a few notable last minute equalisers, then by now we would be comfortably in the top 6. I also add into this equation our performances against some of the top 5 clubs. I appreciate its still a big leap from 6th to 4th, but with a bit more enthusiasm from the owner it need not be as far away as it currently seems. I think you go a bit too far on this but at the same time have a point - I think the most frustrating this is that most people can see that a modicum of investment would make a difference so why can't he? In the context of his overall wealth, I don't understand why he is supposedly happy to only spend ticking over money for a small return when a few quid would either return more in a pure business sense or increase the chance of him selling at at any kind of a profit. I think the worst think about his regime is we still have no fucking idea what the bloke wants - and more to point I don't think he does either. Problem is that is doesnt. If your not in the top 4 so there is very little financial / business sense in being 6th or 12th. Everyone agrees that from a financial sense and a premiership survival sense, the Europa cup is a waste of space. What is probably needed is some real incentive for owners to finish higher. Im not sure how you achieve that though. My only stab (which wont happen) would be to make the champions league be just that, for champions and therefore increasing the standing of the Europa. Maybe even leaving a european spot available for some sort of play off reward for teams finishing 6th - 9th????? The current set up is fucked though, that I do know.
  2. The overwhelming majority DONT want to sing and DONT want to stand.

  4. Im sure he also mentioned something about "the figures for the championship year" being published today.
  5. From memory I think Pardew said last night that Tiote, Enrique, and Best were all out and that Ireland is in.
  6. Not really sure what all the fuss is about here. He said basically all of what was expected and I can't really think of anything else he could have said (given what we already know), that he didn't. Basically understood why the fans think Ashley and llambias were a couple of cunts. Also said he didn't think he had won over the fans but thought survival and good incomings in the summer might start to address that. Was pretty open about scouting trips. Basically the bloke always says tons more than Hughton ever did and perhaps all those in a tizz can say what they thought he might have said differently. Pretty normal stuff IMO
  7. Great little pub on the river bank past the roman ruins where the boat trips set off from. Used to sit outside, watch the sun go down and they serve nice basket food and beautiful tortillas etc. The river cruise was Nowt special.
  8. Holiday season off to a nice little start with a four Dayer in a static caravan in Haven, Scarborough. Sharing an 8 berth caravan with 8 which means it is essential to be first in the toilet each morning.....Check! Drank and danced til 12 dusting down some proper moves from the 80's. Pizza and then bed by 1. Little chap up at 3 and 4, followed by breakdancing seagulls on the roof at 6....! Oh the joy. Repeat for next three days.
  9. Seriously? Economic growth is immaterial to you? You realise that strong economic growth is central to the government's hopes to cut the deficit and 'repair' the country? I do, but I'm realistic to know that the road to recovery is going to be a bump one, unlike past recoveries, for lots of reasons. But I would rather have this lot making painful decision than Ed balls trying to half heartedly tackle the problem. We wouldn't be seeing any of these historic reforms taking place under special Ed. Labour are a spent force with most of the talent gone. They need a good spell in the wilderness to come up with modern policies fit for purpose. Labour are apparently the only party who understand why we are in this situation. A recession caused by a financial crisis. The Tories incorrectly think its because of Labour's expenditure policies. The fact that this exact same debate is going on in many other countries, not least the US, demonstrates that the global economic conundrum has little or nothing to do with the UK Labour party. http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/ezra-k...prss=ezra-klein Nobody thinks it was purely down to Labours policies, BUT, their binge spending during their 10 years makes recovering from the recession harder. Had they taken the big decisions on welfare, pensions, taxation etc we would already be financially much more stable and better placed to produce growth. They reaped the benefits of a world wide boom during their term but wasted the opportunity to reform and instead sold our gold reserves at a record low and dragged us into an illegal war. (all the while kissing Gadaffis arse and freeing the biggest mass murderer in British history). Wanksrs and wanabee Tories, the lot of them.
  10. All the best. Have a good un. 39 is when depression about being 40 kicks in. Halfway through life etc (if your lucky). All downhill after today so best enjoy this one

  12. Growth figures are for the markets and accountants. The bottom line is we have a government taking the tough decisions and gradually putting right the wrongs of the last 10 years. As I type, Ed Balls is on the telly actually apologising for their fuck up. Whether growth is 1% or 3% is immaterial to me, we are heading in the right direction and repairing the country while also putting right some major things such as pensions linked to retail prices, sorting out welfare and making us fit for business investment again. I shudder at the thought of special Ed and balls running the show.
  13. Remembered.... Ridley Scotts "TV Event........The Andromeda Strain.
  14. Remembered a bit more..... Think the films starts with an extra terrestrial crash in a field and a young couple in a pick up find it and bring it back to the town. This is the cause of the sudden deaths of the towns folk, queue the marines.
  15. Outbreak? Nope, dont think its that having watched the trailer
  16. Trying to remember the name of a film (and its driving me mad). Think it starts with a load of people dead in a village, just dropped down brown bread. The marines go in in a big 4 wheel job and they drop dead too. Then the army sends a droid? plane over and they notice that one of the dead bodies has moved..... Any ideas anyone?
  17. So you don't accept your glorious leader's view that being over business friendly and regulation shy was Labour's big mistake? Not sure what your on about. What Im on about is that low corporation tax encourages foreign firms to set up here rather than elsewhere (like your Nissans etc). More firms, more jobs. Some have said that deregulation was a contributing factor in the current financial crisis. Those 150% mortgages at 5 times salary weren't ever going to be paid back, but deregulation meant they were pushed on the public with gusto. All water under the bridge now and not sure how this point relates to corporation tax being reduced?
  18. Cloverfield Always given this a miss due to the famous shaky cam corder treatment but finally succumbed last night and must confess I thought it was very very good. 7/10
  19. Here is the usual "Are you better off calculator" for your pleasure. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-12773565
