Imagine what we'd be like if Ben Arfa had stayed fit and Barton hadn't been suspended? Probably top four and one Mr Hughton still in a job. Ben Arfa and Barton both played against Stoke and Blackpool...at home....we lost both those games. Suppose that's the benefit of a hypothetical argument rather than a fact based one though. Facts I take your point but Ben Arfa only got 10 or so minutes against Blackpool and Tiote wasnt playing. The point as I think Liverpool proved, is that usually when we have our best team out we play extremely well and recent results would probably have been quite different if the best team had been playing.

Krul looks to me as though he has had his natural ability restrained by the coaching staff. Before he got into the first team, the few occasions I saw him he would come out and easily save in all areas of his box. It looks as though he has been told to follow Harper and before him Given, and stay on his line, almost. Think this is why he starts to come and then stops at the minute.

Trying to think how long it is since I enjoyed watching Newcastle so much. Its a tough one. Naturally we swept a lot of teams aside last year but this year, even in matches we have lost, our style of play has been a pleasure to watch. Whether its seeing how Krul performs or Enriques strength or being dazzled by the sheer skills of Tiote or the turnaround of Barton or even the goals of Nolan and Caroll, I cant remember when it was last this enjoyable. Its probably back to Sir Bobs days, but even then, I didnt have quite the respect for the players as I do these days. Just seems to be a lot of guts, pride and fun from this squad which is the best Ive personally felt since KK.

Was nee lover of the Bee Gees or ELO, but you're spot on about the X Factor generation. I could listen to stuff like Mott The Hoople all day long, and 90% of the stuff in the 80's when most people actually came up the novel concept of writing their own stuff. There was loads of dreadful stuff in the 80s as well like. I do miss novelty singles that you used to get on TOTP which you rarely seem to get these days. It's all so sanitised now, seemingly. Aye but there'd be songs not even in the top 10 which were mint. Aye though there was a good amount of stuff like Russ Abott, and Donald Where's Ya Troosers which got high in the charts. Remember that song Jack Your Body, they were the only words and it got to number 1 IIRC. When we were kids we'd play in the street every day and night, but 730 on a Thursday everyone went in for TOTPs. Not like that noo. I think Jack Your Body (Steve 'Silk' Hurley) was the first UK house record to chart. They asked him to go on TOTP but he was too shy to go on. I've seen a few documentaries about that era and quite a few of the people who did some of the genre-defining tunes were just young kids who'd made them in their bedroom and hadn't even been to the clubs in Chicago / Detroit where they were getting played. I once spent days in my bedroom making up a techno? version of wham rap using a double casette recorder. Thought it sounded brilliant but it was shit.

Also remembering wearing my school blazer inside out and attaching the chain off the bath plug to it when I went through my punk fase. Thankfully I then found the beach boys and manned up.

How can anyone not love abba or the bee gees or Elo or hairspray etc Youngs of today brought up on plastic factor. Also used to be into Heavy metal when I was about 12. Didn't like the sore heads off headbanging though.

Maybe you missed the best bits tbh I think it was probably more nostalgia for me than owt else. Had some really good stuff out in the 80's and its not that often you get to see him interviewed. Always found him quite down to earth and funny, considering everything. On his extravagant spending, whats give you the most pleasure....My vibrator, Gold plated vibrator. Never ceased to be amaze how he kept in together during Dianas funeral either.
