The fact that Jonas has four assists this season means nothing to me when I witness the complete drivel I see from that player each time I watch him. He seems to have gone downhill all season and I see no light at the end of the tunnel after Saturdays game. Mind you, I hope he comes good, because without some creativity we are doomed. The bottom line I suppose is we all know we're crying out for some creativity from midfield; the trouble is we simply don't have much quality in the squad, which partly explains why we are where we are. Shearer needs to come up with an effective way of wringing enough out of what he's got to get us safe, as Keegan did last season.

I agree to an extent. But Barton has never once looked like anything even remotely approaching a playmaker, and overall he's been nothing special at all for us. He's just about the best of a bad bunch of CMs and for that reason we could do with him back, but the suggestion that he'll somehow save our season (based on what he's done so far) is optimistic in the extreme. Two is the answer (the same as Beye and fucking Smith), plus a single goal - a penalty. Gutierrez, who you slag off at every turn, has four assists this season. Geremi and Charlie had five each last season and Emre, who barely played, had four. Last time he came back from his metatarsal injury he was absolutely wank for months by the way. As for his availability, Viduka has more first-team appearances in the league than fucking Barton over the last two seasons

I'd take a draw all day here. They outclass us all over the pitch, a draw would be a really good result. Mind you when Shearer was Roeder's no.2 we beat them 1-0 With Alex and Sandman on Jonas. There seems to be a 'he's not brilliant, therefore he's shit' theme developing when Jonas is discussed. He's not done as much as I'd hoped he would when I first saw him play but he still walks into our team. I cut him some slack as it's his first PL season, and it's been in pretty adverse circumstances. I think there's more to come from him and I like his attitude. He's also been kicked to fuck this season - the job the mackems did on him was a disgrace, he got chopped in half about three times and was kicked all game. I'll be very surprised if Shearer doesn't start him.
