No, because it's on a break at the moment. Actually, the only pap I'm trying to watch at the moment is Battlestar Bogstandardica, which I'm struggling through in the seemingly vain hope of it living up to your recommendation. I'm up to episode 5, please tell me it gets better from there. The deeper you get into it the better it gets. I would imagine all the retro-sci fi stuff would have one coming in their pants.....Yes? You still remain pawned by Dexter dear. Dexter is superb. Best telly thing I've seen in ages. Loved it. Oh yeah, that thing, I'd forgotten about that, it was thrilling, as you can undoubtedly tell.

  3. Why does it say "Germans not amused" as the headline, when the village is in Austria?

Jericho got steadily better and better, hope that continues into the next run. The nine was shite, I only watched it out of habit in the end, have they cancelled it? Not that I'll be watching if they haven't like.

That'd be good (Ecclestone in Heroes), but if they fuck up The Prisoner I won't be happy!! Write something new for fuck's sake, stop ripping off old stuff.
  6. Alledgedly versus Tottenham to King(I think) "Shut your fucking mouth nigger" I think, definitely had shut mouth and nigger in combination Alledged but widely believed to be totally true in journo circles ta.
  7. Me too. Still, he's made some shockingly bad films, though.
  8. for some countries that's just a normal day down the shops tho ... Where? India Or is it China?
  9. Whereabouts in Manc are you, indigo? It was mental here earlier. The hailstones sounded like bricks smacking off the windows, yet it was bright and sunny at the same time despite the sky being slate-grey and there being a massive rainbow. Lots of dead wheelie bins in the front street by the looks of it an'all. Need to go out later on which I'm not looking forward to cos it's freeeeeeeezing. I'm in the paradise-on-Earth that is Longsight. If any of you lot have been to Eastlands, apparently the big Asda and the road between it and the stadium have been cordoned off by the police, due to its roof coming off and its trolleys going on a wind-assisted rampage through the carpark!! That must be causing havoc! That road is mad in rush hour and Ashton New Rd is a nightmare at any time of the day Yeah, too right, although it seems to have calmed down a bit now, when I got home from work there were sirens every couple of minutes flying up and down Stockport Road - although that's not that unusual for Longsight What's your link with Mancland catmag?

  11. On the contrary a few people agree with me. Why, do you think it's a fantastic storyline then Rob? I think its quite a good rendition of the book - the people who don't like it much seem to want a documentary on Idi & Uganda - which is a different and grim story - its actually about the temptations of power and nearness to power corrupting people It could have been set anywhere - like the "Daily Mirror" under Cap'n Bob, or Sky under Murdoch Whitacker gets the prizes because he's playing a monster but with some sublety - not just a raving, gibbering loon - a much more subtle role Not having read the book, I can't really judge whether it's a good rendition or not, but if you're saying it is, then I doubt I'd like the book at all, because for me that's the problem with the film - the storyline is weak. The only person I've met who has read the book, didn't want to go and see the film because they thought the book was crap, and all. Like you say, it could have been set anywhere, which begs the question why set it in such an interesting situation as Uganda under Amin, if you're not going to utilise any of that interest in the storyline? It takes a very strong storyline to be able to be independent of it's setting and still remain good. Something like Macbeth for example. I saw a version of Macbeth using an Idi Amin character and it was fantastic!! The storyline was strong enough to be transposed into an alternative environment and not suffer, in fact it was probably the best Shakespeare I've seen to-date. The performance wasn't even in a theatre, it was in a derelict warehouse and instead of changing the set the audience followed the cast in and out of the various rooms of the building. A perfect example of how to make the surroundings benefit the storyline, unlike The Last King of Scotland. Forrest Whitaker gets the prizes because like you say, he's playing an interesting character in a very skillful manner, it's just a pity his interesting character is marooned in a dull and boring story. As I said, I can only judge the film on its own merits and in my opinion it is a film with a poor storyline, if that storyline comes from the book then all I can say is the book must be pretty bad, as it doesn't have Forrest's performance to drag it's sorry arse out of the gutter.
  12. I think Gervais was making jokes about crops in Ipswich...erm it's wry, not rye. TBH! Bollocks.

  14. Ricky Gervais should be under fire for being shit, but not for this. There's always someone somewhere for whom any rye comment will be inappropriate due to what's going on in their life at that moment in time. The media should stop putting so much effort into tracking them down and when they do it would be refreshing if the person told the journo to fuck off and bother someone else.
  15. If anyone doubts that Climate Change is happening, watch the news tonight.
  16. Just got back from work, been sent home because the wind's ripped the building's roof off!! I heard this loud crunching, tearing, ripping sound and looked out of the window to see the roof fly past depositing large lumps of tarmac and huge pieces of steel all over the precinct outside. It could quite easily have killed someone if they'd been standing there!! On the way home I've seen: 1x uprooted tree 2x ripped off garage roofs 1x flying church porch 1x decapitated traffic lights rolling around in the gutter 1x neighbour's car restyled in an Iraqesque stylee by his own roof tiles x-amount of airbourne signs, tree branches, people, and assorted other crap and my wheelie-bin lying at a jaunty angle in front of my house door, thank god the binmen came yesterday, otherwise there'd be all kinds of crap strewn across my front garden. To sum up: It's a bit breezy here in Manchester.
  17. It comes into it because that's what makes them such prudes, basically. Got to go to work now, will give a proper answer later.
  18. Are you asking for stricter moderation, by any chance? Anyway, back to the actual thread. As I've said before: Why is everyone at this club so inept!?!?! How often do we need to see the club's name dragged through the dirt, by idiots who would have been better off keeping their gobs shut? *sigh*
  19. Lucky sods, it's just lashing it down and blowing a gale here, as per usual.
  20. Where's Nobby when you need him? Doesn't he work for the Mail?
  21. The fact that it's being brought to trial shows the level of religious-nutterness that's arisen in that country. And people want to side with them against the rest of Europe!?!
