I believe that in order to get a realistic impression of what Sam Allardyce has done for us so far this season in 13 games you have to forget about any injuries incurred before he joined us, forget about any injuries incurred after he joined us, forget about his questionable starting line-ups, forget about his questionable out of position playing, forget about his questionable substitutions, forget about the players he let go, forget about the impatience of some, and focus on factual reality. He brought in Cacapa, Beye, Faye, Rozenhal, and Enrique to add to and strengthen our existing defence. Goals scored against us so far this season do not show any signs of a successful change in accomplishment.. 7 goals against in two games on our home turf cannot be construed as progress in the right direction, quite the opposite. FACT. He brought in Barton, Geremi and perhaps Smith, to bolster our existing mid-field and as yet we have been unable to, control the middle, failed to be creative, stamp authority on the game, feed the forwards in a manner best suited to them, and in general not doing as good a job as they should be. FACT. He brought in Viduka and perhaps Smith, to give us more stength to the existing front line but the number of goals being scored in recent games is not indicative of a very effective firing line. This however could be related to lack of service from the engine room, poor crossing from the wings, and prayer long-balls from the back. FACT. I don't particularly want to get rid of Big Sam but I do want him to shape-up, shape-up the team, show me he isn't the big mistake a lot of people are beginning to think he was.

Wacky Jnr seems to be hedging a bit and as I like to have a dabble now and then I'd like to take that bet Mr. Fish, if you don't mind. so to clarify you're willing to bet five English pounds that Sam Allardyce will be sacked and we lose our next two games? I'm willing to bet five English pounds that Sam Allardyce will be sacked IF we lose our next two league games. Is that clear Mr. Fish? I hope you didn't think that I thought a 'fiver' meant $5.oo in Yankee money

He's already had 13 chances for fucks sake, he's fucked up 5 and almost fucked up 3 more, how many chances should he get before the penny drops? 13 games in football is nothing. Bugger all. REALLY, 13 is about one third of the season, only 25 more games to go.

Jolly: Sam bears brunt of St James' wrath
Noelie replied to acrossthepond's topic in Newcastle Forum
Probably a lot of truth in that, if they weren't "decent" players they wouldn't be here. That being said, why don't we have a "decent" team. Perhaps Sam's systems, methods, and instructions that worked for him at Bolton are all wrong for the calibre of players he has at his disposal in Newcastle, and if that be so then as a capable manager he should be able to recognise the problems and make adjustments to correct the situation even if it compromises his beliefs and management style. -

Does he mean we'll need diamond tipped boring-bits to go any lower?

YOU LIE, like a Fish floundering on the river bank that wants to get back into the water and swim against the tide.

That is undoubtably the stupidist remark that anyone could ever utter (unless yer coached by LeazesMag)

Make a new thread NO NO NO, I get criticized when I do that, and I promised I wouldn't do it again

To those who have critized my impatience, and to those who kept saying it's only 12 games, GET A LIFE, it's now 13 and getting worse. When you hire a new experienced manager and he brings in 7 new players it is nothing short of being realistic to expect an improvement in the short term and more improvement on the long term. My biggest concern about Allardyce's competence today was his playing of Smith out of position wide right instead of Milner. Is his affinity for Smith due to Ashley's shirt?

can't see why it was obvious he was great for Southampton and the makems made him the one of the highest paid managers in the country. He was also interviewed for the England job Oh aye, an' when he left Sunderland the fans referred to him as Lawrie Mackem-enemy. Oh aye, an' he assisted that Taylor bloke who didn't get us into the Euro finals in 1994. Oh aye an' he didn't do too well in Ireland either. Sunderland were on a down-slide when they hired him and he helped them slide into the 3rd, Division for the first time in their history. Just because he did well at Dell didn't guarantee success at Roker.
-
I have to think that one doomed to failure when going to a certain club was that Geordie lad from Gateshead who drove Sunderland down into the 3rd.Division. Lawrie McNenemy.

Why not Mr. Fish? inexperience doesn't mean failure at something you hadn't done before. Look at Kevin Keegan, he had never been in management before he came to Newcastle, in fact he had been out of game altogether for quite a while before he came to St.James. Sometimes a person's stature as a very good player combined with character and high respect can bring something to the table at first sitting. If you're talking about England managers, you really shouldn't be using Keegan as an example. NO, I wasn't talking about England managers perse, I was talking about the lack of experience in a managerial position not necessarily being detrimental to success. Keegan was a big success at Newcastle and it was his first shot at management. Beginners luck perhaps, but I think it had a lot to do with his charisma and approach to the game, certainly not his managerial experience which was zero.

It's a plus like, if Sam persists in playing Zoggy at left back then Duff can play wide left. Unless of course Sam plays Milner wide left and plays Duff wide right. Of course he could have Duff partner Oba if he wanted to. Duff coming back might complicate things.

MACCA is CACCA He was a bad choice from the start. Let's hope we now see him depart.
-
i'm sorry like but we don't need to be hearing these kind of excuses. ............................. Christ, he'd better speed up the process like, don't think I've got a good few years left.

Can't argue that, Sam brought in Enrique, Rozenhal, Cacapa, Beye, and Faye to defend. We have a defence that has allowed 18 goals against in 12 games, and 8 of those at home. That is an under-performing defense in anyone's book. Considering that we have 19 goals for in 12 games, 11 of those at home, it's easy to see where the biggest problem is, at the back as usual.
-
Well I certainly don't agree with you there Mr. Fish, that's tatamount to saying if his first season proves to be a disaster we have to wait another season to get a better picture of what effect he has on the club. I don't think Dinnis, Charlton, Ardilles, Gullit, Dalglish, Roeder, were given two full seasons to get a true picture of their effect on the club so why on earth are you saying Sam should. I dearly want Sam to succeed to some degree at Newcastle this season but if we finish in the bottom half of the table that's effect enough for me to realise we haven't got what we paid for.

I'm most impressed with Ashly by virtue of the fact that he is attending games in a Black 'n White shirt. It may be corny, cheesey, even publicity stunt, or anything else you want to call it but how many other club owners have you seen wearing a team shirt. What impresses me most about Allardyce is that he is consistantly chewing with his mouth open, which TV viewers can attest to. Always thought Fergusson was the worst chewer until Sam got more TV exposure.
