Having gone through what frankly was a small scale version of Dannys circumstance I can totally sympathise with him, that doesnt excuse the speeding or anything else but to expect him to have his mind fully on work would be naive to say the least. We were lucky, it was never touch and go with George, he had problems when born and spent a fortnight in Intensive/ Special care but we always knew he was coming home. Others arent so lucky and if DS was in that position then I cant imagine what it was like, what he earns however has no bearing on how he should react. Im not sure the Clearance stat is a good thing is it? If we're making over 10 more clearances per game does that not mean we have a weaker midfield and therefore allowing more to get through and putting more pressure on the back 4? After all, those 10 clearances didnt all result in additional goals last season

We have done well despite Ashley not because of him. Imagine what we may have been able to achieve had he backed Pardew properly, by that I dont mean blowing £50m on Messi but good sensible purchases of established players to give a good balance with the younger foreign lads and ensuring we have a squad capable of covering injuries, suspensions etc. Its still early days, 8 games in and we're definitely doing better than last season but theres a long way to go and halfway through it is a transfer window which has the potential to break our season in one quick sale.
