Robbie Keane at the time was being rumoured to have been available for around 6 million? 140192 The same Robbie Keane who said he didn't want to leave Spurs, after being linked with about 5 different clubs? I honestly can't believe people are pissed off by the fact we signed one of the best strikers in England. If we sign Ruud, and he misses a couple of games, people will claim it's because he's still a red at heart. 140199 Renton is possibly pissed off about it however I have not stated I am. However I do believe and have said since he signed that the money spent on Owen and Luque could have been spent far more wisely. 27 million or whatever it was on two players when we have so many flaws in other areas was a ridiculous amount to spend. 140205 If Luque had played to his ability like he managed in Spain, and Owen stayed fit, they would have been quality value tbh. 140209 If, buts and maybes. Even if they had been quality which I know they both "can" be, other areas of the team would still be very poor. 140213 Hindsight... 140221 Hindsight? Knowing that other areas of the team need strengthened? Hardly, hence the reason I have been saying since we splashed the money on them.

He's being offered on loan to all the Prem clubs supposedly. I'd definitely take him on loan with an option to buy. 140175 Man City have first option on him on loan though. 140183 Ah right, so we're not gonna be getting him then. 140204 They may have first option but the player himself surely has the decision on whether he wants to go or not.

Newcastle are on the trail of Chelsea's German international defender Robert Huth for a third successive summer. Huth first attracted the interest of the Magpies during Sir Bobby Robson's final pre-season and the powerful centre-back was also an alleged target for his successor Graeme Souness 12 months later. On both occasions, Chelsea refused to allow the Berlin-born stopper to leave Stamford Bridge. But the situation appears to have changed after Huth, 21, publicly aired his dissatisfaction with the lack of first team football on offer to him in west London. That could well be the signal for new Newcastle manager Glenn Roeder to also launch a bid for a player whose reputation remains intact because of his regular appearances for his national side. "When you are almost always only a substitute, it is physically and mentally a much more difficult situation than when you play a complete season," said Huth, who was speaking at the German's training camp in Sardinia. "When you practise and practise and on the last day of training before a game you learn that you will not be in the team, then you break down." In 38 Premiership games last season, Huth played only 13 and started just seven as Jose Mourinho kept faith with first-choice trio John Terry, William Gallas and Ricardo Carvalho. Sources close to the German have already begun to hint that Huth, in a Geneva training camp with his country's World Cup squad, sees a move to Newcastle as an attractive one, even though Chelsea's west London neighbours Fulham are also reportedly keen to sign him. That, though, will not be greeted well by England Under-21 international Steven Taylor who, after a lengthy lay-off with a dislocated shoulder, has already been pushed out of the first team by Titus Bramble and Craig Moore. Roeder, however, will not be swayed in his belief that the club need four top-class centre-halves competing for a place in the side and, with Jean-Alain Boumsong almost certain to leave after the World Cup, it is an area he is keen to strengthen. Another player being linked with the Magpies is Sochaux's Senegalese international centre-back Souleymane Diawara who, according to his representatives in France, has already discussed a move with Roeder. That would appear to be unlikely given that Roeder has still not had a meeting with chairman Freddie Shepherd to discuss his summer transfer budget. Meanwhile, Roeder has responded to Dirk Kuyt's admission that he would welcome a move to Newcastle by insisting the club will be monitoring the 25-year-old very closely at the World Cup. He said: "He is certainly one of several players we are looking at and I am looking forward to seeing him in Germany. He's a player I like and I have found it interesting what he has said. "It doesn't really surprise me that he said he wanted to come here. Any player with the sort of quality he has would surely want to join a club like Newcastle."

GLENN ROEDER will meet Freddy Shepherd this week to discuss Newcastle United’s close-season transfer budget. Shaun Wright-Phillips is among the players being monitored by Roeder, who has been charged with restoring Newcastle as a force in the Premiership. Having spent more than £36 million on signings last summer, including Michael Owen for £16.5 million, Shepherd is unlikely to sanction another splurge, although some spending will be unavoidable. Aside from a quality centre forward — Ruud van Nistelrooy and Dirk Kuyt, who has been watched repeatedly by Newcastle scouts, have been mentioned by Roeder, although competition for the latter will come from Liverpool — ideally the Londoner would seek cover in central defence, a holding midfield player and a winger capable of operating on either flank. Newcastle made an inquiry for Wright-Phillips shortly before the 24-year-old’s £21 million move from Manchester City to Chelsea ten months ago. He made a disappointing ten league starts in his debut season at Stamford Bridge and does not figure in Sven-Göran Eriksson’s World Cup squad. Kuyt, 25, who has scored 96 goals in 140 starts for Feyenoord, has said that playing for “a club like Newcastle would be a dream”, which drew a warm response from Roeder. “He is one of several players we are looking at and I am looking forward to seeing him in Germany,” he said. Yet the Holland forward said yesterday that Liverpool had also made contact. “I have several opportunities, but it is down to Feyenoord,” he said.

I hear Gemmills already purchased his Palace top and has enquired about a season ticket..
-
I`ll no doubt try and get down at least once a month. Peter reckons it will be no problem getting me a ticket.
-
Aye my other half was actually against me giving it up and tried to talk me out of it (she must enjoy the peace and quiet whilst I am away ) but it makes sense for the next year or so until we are settled and then I'll start going again. Either way I wasn't giving up the seat so its handy that Peter took it. Dunno if the guy behind will be to pleased though.

...part-time supporter.... I have just given up my season ticket for the season to Mr Peasepud. Seeing as its worth about £2000 when you include my travelling and other expenses (though not even including alcohol) I am having to give it up for the season and possibly next as I am starting to save for a house. I will be trying to get down at least half a dozen times over the season or at least once a month but will be weird not seeing the "riff raff" from the board so regularly.

Real curry or that glowing toxic shite that you get in chip shops?

What do you do like, just sip it? 139477 I always found it impossible to take my time whilst drinking spirits. Was a right pain in the arse when in a round with someone drinking pints. Heres you two or three drinks and your vodkas gone and they are still standing with 3/4 pint left. Those days are gone though, still tee-total.

Newcastle boss Glenn Roeder insists midfield duo Nicky Butt and Lee Bowyer could yet have a future at the club. Butt looked on the way out after a season on loan at Birmingham, while Bowyer has been tipped to leave. Roeder worked with Butt when he was on England's coaching staff and said: "The Nicky Butt I know was excellent back then. He did very well for me. "Lee Bowyer did very well for me at the end of the season and is another who I won't be in a rush to move anywhere." Butt, 31, had been destined for a permanent move to St Andrews, but their relegation - confirmed by a 0-0 home draw with the Magpies last month - put an end to that. Wigan and Bolton have been linked with the former Manchester United star. Roeder said: "I won't be rushing into anything. There is no need to do that at the minute because there are lots of managers away on holiday now. "We are still to sit down and talk about who will potentially still be here at the start of the season." Bowyer, who was signed by Roeder at West Ham from Leeds in January 2003, still has a year left on his contract and may yet figure in future plans despite his hefty wage packet. But Roeder said: "In the game against Tottenham at the back end of the season, Lee was absolutely outstanding, and when he is in that kind of form, you don't want him to be anywhere else. "I haven't sat down with him yet, but as I say, I won't be in a rush for him to leave." Bowyer's time on Tyneside looked to have come to an end in January when manager Graeme Souness revealed the midfielder wanted to return to London, with Charlton keen on re-signing him. However, the 29-year-old remained at the club as the transfer window closed and, after Souness' departure, found a new lease of life.

Sounds minging to me... And to think us Scots continually get mentioned alongside chippys and anything battered. Chip shop food is generally pretty rank rotten IMO

By the way, with you saying you do not think it is as half as embarrassing as the booing are you saying that yes you do find it embarrassing to an extent?
