Middlesbrough striker Mark Viduka admits he is unsure of his future at the club, but is flattered to be linked with a switch across the North East to Newcastle United. Australian international Viduka has looked sharp in recent weeks and is rumoured to be a target for Newcastle, despite The Magpies being without a permanent manager. Viduka is heading towards the final year of his contract and speculation suggests the Boro paymasters may look to cash-in this summer. The Australian is not sure what the future holds, but is flattered by talk of a move to Newcastle. "I saw all the speculation about Newcastle," said Viduka in the News of the World. "It was flattering to be linked with them, but I wouldn't have a clue about my future. "I have a year left on my contract, so we will wait and see what happens." Lee Bowyer, meanwhile, has hinted that he would like to stay at Newcastle. The midfielder has been hankering after a return to London for some time, but he has found form in recent weeks and has now revealed that he wants to fight for his place on Tyneside. "I played alongside Scott Parker in the middle of midfield for one game and I enjoyed playing there with him," said Bowyer. "Then he went down with glandular fever, but I hope we can play in the middle together next season. "I've won my place back and I won't let it go." Craig Moore is another player looking to remain at Newcastle, although the Australian defender has revealed that he will head home in 2007. The stopper joined Newcastle last summer, signing a two-year deal, but has been plagued by injuries. He is finally free from injury and fancies proving his class in The Premiership next term before returning home. "The last eight months have been a testing time," he added. "When my contract is up at Newcastle, I will head home."

I reckon the best thing to do is just keep setting up new drop-offs with him, trying to get as many photos of him as possible and just basically making him look a tit for keep coming back for more. Number 4 could be linked in with this - there's enough people looking in on this thread for us to request a bit of audience participation. The only problem then is that we don't know where he's gonna be at any time, so the photo idea falls flat. It would at least get him turning up for fruitless pick-ups though, the knobhead. The finding the girl idea is a non-starter cos I just don't see how you would go about doing that, and I'm not sure how good an idea the "we're the police" thing is. Although having said that, it's not like he's gonna report you to them is it? 118010[/snapback] I reckon a group of you should go to the next sting, create the impression there is a whole group of plained clothed police and really make him paranoid.

If he was return i hope that the loss would not be that big. We are probably paying for him in installments and what is left to be paid would be written off plus we would hopefully get back some of what we have paid. That is similar to what happened when Ferguson returned to Rangers from Blackburn Rovers.

Rangers are plotting to take Newcastle flop Jean-Alain Boumsong back to Glasgow. Paul Le Guen - who takes over as Ibrox boss at the end of the season - is a long-time friend and a big admirer of Boumsong. And we understand Le Guen told his fellow Frenchman he was keen to offer him a return to Scotland when they met at a promotional event in Paris last month. But while Boumsong would jump at the move, Rangers would be willing to pay less than £3 million of the £8.5 million they made from selling him to United just 15 months ago. Le Guen has also spoken to current Gers boss Alex McLeish about the impact made by Boumsong at Ibrox following his arrival from Auxerre in the summer of 2004. And although he has other defensive targets in mind, Le Guen knows they, unlike Boumsong, would demand to play Champions League football next season - something Rangers may not be able to provide. Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid are planning to rescue Albert Luque from his Newcastle hell this summer - if they can offload a flop of their own. Luque is tipped to be on his way to the Spanish capital as a replacement for Bulgarian striker Martin Petrov who has scored just one goal in 30 appearances since arriving from German club Wolfsburg last summer.

Nolberto Solano feels Newcastle are approaching a pivotal period in their history. The Magpies were title challengers in the late 1990s, but their star has dimmed in recent years and they have been stuck in the bottom half of the table for the last couple of seasons. The ship is currently without a captain, as Glenn Roeder is in caretaker charge following the sacking of Graeme Souness, and the Peruvian winger is calling on the club to make the right appointment. Solano also feels the squad needs an overhaul and is urging chairman Freddy Shepherd to dip his hand deep into his pocket. "The people who might manage this club will be looking at us and deciding how competitive we can really be," he said in an interview with The Independent. "Can we get back to a level where we are fighting with Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United like we were in my first spell with the club? "I know our squad isn't strong enough yet. But we have to take risks this summer and try to get back to where we were. The top clubs are always taking risks whether they have been successful or not. "The chairman and the board must decide where they want this club to be and then appoint the manager they think can take us there. "It's so sad for the fans that this season has ended in this way. I feel bad for them, bad for Alan Shearer and bad for the club. The new manager has a big job but it could be a great job."

Newcastle United teenager Andy Carroll has set his sights on first-team football after securing his first professional contract. The 17-year-old from Gateshead capped a fine week by signing after coming off the bench to net a crucial goal in the 3-2 win against Sunderland in the reserves at Kingston Park. The player featured prominently in United's FA Youth Cup run which saw the Academy side reach the semi-finals and is now hoping for glory at an even higher level. He said: "It's been a brilliant week, scoring against Sunderland for the Reserves and then coming to St. James' Park to agree my new contract. "I really enjoyed Monday night with the Reserves. It's great experience to play against people who have been playing in the Premiership this season. "My dream is to play for Newcastle United's first team and I'll be doing all I can to make that happen one day."

Alan Curbishley is the latest candidate to be heavily backed for the vacant Newcastle managerial job. The Charlton Athletic boss is now second favourite to land the post behind Martin O'Neill, who came out on top in a Chronicle poll immediately after Graeme Souness was sacked. In the space of 24 hours, Curbishley (pictured right) has seen his odds cut from 20-1 to 4-1. This is a repeat of what happened a fortnight ago when George Graham's odds were similarly slashed. But the bottom line is that the bookies are as much in the dark as anyone else about United's next manager. Indeed Ladbrokes spokesman Robin Hutchison said today: "The only people not laid for the Newcastle job are Roger de Courcy and Nookie Bear, and by the time Freddy Shepherd makes up his mind we'll probably have seen some money for them too. "We have not got a single loser in the book at the moment despite laying over a hundred grand, so we are happy as a pig in the proverbial. It would seem the world and his wife has heard a whisper, spoken to a Newcastle taxi driver or spotted a Premiership manager in the MetroCentre." Martin O'Neill 6-4, Alan Curbishley 4, Roberto Mancini 5, Mark Hughes 7, Quique Sanchez Flores 7, Ronald Koeman 10, Sam Allardyce 12, George Graham 14.

Glenn Roeder will send his chief scout David Mills to run the rule over Feyenoord's Dutch goalscoring striker Dirk Kuyt this weekend. And Mills will go to Holland with the blessing of chairman Freddy Shepherd as United aim not to be caught out in the close season signing merry-go-round. Indeed, Shepherd said today: "Just because we have not yet appointed a permanent manager does not mean that our scouting team is not out there looking at players." It was on Roeder's advice that Shepherd has been keeping an eye on the Ruud van Nistelrooy situation at Manchester United and the caretaker manager does not hide his admiration for Kuyt, another of Holland's top strikers. In fact, Roeder broke off his preparations for Sunday's derby match at Middlesbrough to tell me today: "I have asked our chief scout David Mills to have a look at Kuyt this weekend. "He is a top player as far as I am concerned and I believe he will have a great World Cup for Holland. For me, he is out of the Van Nistelrooy mould and I am a big admirer of both them." Obviously, United know that Kuyt will not come cheap, having made inquiries about him before they splashed out £17m for Michael Owen last August. And they also know that in Salomon Kalou, Feyernoord have another £10m-rated striker in whom Chelsea are interested. The 16-times capped Kuyt is not a pacy striker in the mould of Craig Bellamy but he does score goals for fun, having already bagged 21 from 31 games this season. And, speaking of pace, this is one reason why reports over the weekend that United were prepared to sacrifice James Milner, who is on loan to Aston Villa for this season, for left- winger Gareth Barry could not be wider of the mark. For no matter who is manager of United next season, one of his main jobs will be to inject some pace into the side - something which is lacking now but which Milner has and Barry does not. Once again it could be an interesting close season at St James' Park with several players coming in - and several leaving. But United have been careful to make sure that no senior player sees his contract expire this summer, while one which does in run out in 2007 - that of Shay Given - will be extended in July
