On the contrary, I think he'd probably do very well at Arsenal. They've got a pretty fantastic midfield with lots of pace. Arshavin, Walcott & Fabregas feeding him? Jesus he'll be scoring for fun - they'll make him look good. But hes not got a fucking footballing brain to make the runs into the spaces where those players you mentioned will be feeding balls through too. He has been hyped up by the odd wonder goal he scores out of nothing and the fact he has pace, but for me is just a slightly better Lua-Lua (by not much though). Aye he has attributes, and some very good ones, but hasn't got a clue how to use them..

Hes been on the sauce again, hes not even applied.

http://www.sundaysun.co.uk/sport/newcastle...79310-23750694/ NEWCASTLE are lining up a cheeky swoop for Paul Scholes. But the Magpies face competition for the Manchester United legend from Premier League outfits Bolton Wanderers and Stoke City. United are expected to appoint Alan Shearer as manager early this week, and will hand their new boss a £20 million transfer warchest. Part of that could be pumped into a £5 million bid for Leeds United striker Jermaine Beckford - with Michael Owen attracting interest from Everton and Fiorentina weighing up a move Obafemi Martins. But Shearer is keen to put in place a new era of dedicated professionalism at St James’s Park, and the Sunday Sun understands Scholes has been identified as the ideal role model to lead the way. The 34-year-old signed a one-year extension to his contract last season, but has grown frustrated at his lack of first-team outings at Old Trafford. Stoke are thought to have offered him a player-coach role and Bolton are prepared to match his £70,000-a-week wages. Newcastle are trying to put an end to such salaries at the club but given that the Red Devils are unlikely to demand a fee for such a loyal servant, they could make an exception for Scholes. In stark contrast, United WILL axe disgraced midfielder Joey Barton – despite his latest attempts to stay on Tyneside. And the former Manchester City player could be offered a Premier League lifeline by Tottenham. Shearer has stated his determination to rid the club of Barton, after a string of incidents culminated in their dressing room bust-up following his sending-off against Liverpool. Yet Barton’s agent Willie McKay said: “Joey has three years left on his contract at Newcastle. He doesn’t want to leave.” That will cut no ice with Shearer however, and once he is installed as manager Barton will be off-loaded - with Harry Redknapp understood to have made an enquiry about the player.

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/foo...icle6396030.ece THE sportswear tycoon Mike Ashley is to put Newcastle United football club up for sale with a £100m price tag. Ashley will appoint Keith Harris, chairman of Seymour Pierce, or bankers at NM Roth-schild this week with a mandate to achieve a quick sale. His decision comes just days after the club was relegated from the Premier League. The asking price is £34m less than Ashley paid for the club two years ago. Since then he has ploughed £110m of his own money into the northeast team to pay down its debts. Ashley told The Sunday Times: “It has been catastrophic for everybody. I’ve lost my money and I’ve made terrible decisions. Now I want to sell it as soon as I can . . . advisers will be appointed shortly.” If Ashley manages to find a buyer it will put an end to his controversial and occasionally acrimonious two-year spell in control at St James’ Park, having initially put the club up for sale for £400m last September because of a series of protests and demonstrations following Kevin Keegan’s departure as manager. But dropping out of the top flight of English football has slashed the value of the club. There has been some interest from Nigeria and South Africa but no firm takeover offers. The club’s demotion will make it harder to drum up bid interest. Asked if he regretted his decision to buy the club two years ago, Ashley, who owns the sportswear chain Sports Direct, said: “Of course I regret it. I never said I was an expert in football clubs. I was just a fan – although a very wealthy fan. But I’m not so wealthy now. I put my money into it and I tried my best. But I accept my best was woefully short. I am genuinely sorry for everybody about what has happened.” Ashley landed a £929m pay-day when he floated Sports Direct on the London stock exchange in 2007, but the credit crunch and a string of ill-fated gambles have slashed his wealth from £1.4 billion to £700m, according to this year’s Sunday Times Rich List. The news comes as talks to give Alan Shearer, the care-taker manager, a full-time contract to rebuild Newcastle United were continuing this weekend. Ashley also praised former interim manager Joe Kinnear, who took temporary charge of the club after Keegan quit last autumn. “I personally thought Joe put the club back on the right track. He took it from second bottom to 13th but things went against him,” said Ashley. Kinnear was forced to stand down because of ill health. After its relegation from the Premier League, the club faces a big restructuring that is likely to lead to a clear-out of the first-team playing squad to balance the books. At present, Newcastle relies on a £40m work-ing-capital facility from Bar-clays bank. Meanwhile, West Ham United is poised to be taken over by its creditors in coming weeks. Sources close to the east London football club say the huge debts of former owner Bjorgol-fur Gudmundsson and those of the club itself have all but killed the chances of any rescue. This means it will fall into the hands of Icelandic bank Straumur and a consortium of other financial institutions. Straumur is owed about £100m by Gudmundsson, while the club owes about £45m to a group of banks including RBS. The Icelandic bank is expected to hold on to the club for between two and three years before putting it up for sale.

Players we could (realistically) sign?

Talking to a Leeds fan today and he doesn't rate him too highly. Spoke better of Delph and very highly of someone called Snodgrass. Robert Snodgrass formerly of Livingston. A Scottish U21 international. -
Shearers blatantly bitch slapped him and told him to apologise...

Figures of 6 million have banded about for McCormack already. As I said in another thread we should be sniffing about the SPL for players like McCormack. Over the last couple of years Championship Clubs and the Old Firm have been picking up the best from the rest of the teams up there for peanuts. -
65 games on SKY, 10 on BBC BBC now has highlights too.

Is it not who we think are actually realistic signings rather than who we want to sign? -

I wouldn't mind seeing Fletcher from Hibs but hes been making noises about wanting to play in the premiership so dunno if he would come. I know his move to Celtic didn't work out too well but I would take a chance on Derek Riordan. -

I cant see it now that they are guaranteed a Champions League place. Think they still have to balance some books but they would be mugs if they sold him. They wouldn't have won the league if he had been sold. I think he would score for fun in the Championship btw... -
