One of my favourites i couldn't have got it more wrong, i'm happy to say. but the prediction didn't feel that silly at the time - we'd just sold key senior players and bought in a bunch most of us had never heard of. it didn't sound like the recipe for success but fair play to all involved - it worked a treat. i'm hoping this summer we hang on to our players and build the squad rather than selling the senior pros again. if that happens, i'll be making a much more confident prediction this summer. i think he strategy was a bit of a gamble last summer - selling a bunch of senior players is unlikely to work every year. last summer was the equivalent of us selling tiote, ba and colocini this summer. nice one, sticking to what I've been saying for years.

i can't believe he hasn't won everyone over now - even those norweigen knob jockeys must recognise the job he's done. look at the league position and some of the victories - beating man u, liverpool, hammering the unwashed etc. i'll hold me hands up. i was gutted when hughton was sacked and fuming when pardew was appointed. but you have to give him massive credit for what he's done this season. defensively, we're as solid as i can remember us being. the positional awareness of players i'd previously written off has improved massively - that is down to coaching. and you can't dispute his man management - he's handled ben arfa perfectly and has kept the team spirit going in the camp. i thought that would go after hughton was sacked and when the senior pros were flogged in the sumemr but if anything it's improved. plus he seems to handle the media perfectly; he's got a bit of confidence - even arrogance - about him, which i like and he talks honestly and tells it how he sees it, instead of talking in cliches. plus he's done it all on a small budget by premiership standards. manager of the year tbh agree with every single word of that; top quality post mate quite a turnaround after what he said only a few weeks ago. I don't know why people want to get rid of anybody who isn't dogshit, when we are trying to progress and may be in europe next year with extra games and what is at the moment clearly a thin squad. Simpson isn't great and there is better but he isn't dogshit either, and left back is a far bigger priority having not replaced Enrique. Lesson to be learned there perhaps. Some players are surplus to requirements, but not Simpson.

I have a sky +HD box in the house, it was given to me about 18 months ago by someone who upgraded and didn't need it anymore. I never used it, and now I don't have sky and don't intend to get sky again, am wondering if it is useable, it doesn't have a card in it. It is just the box, including the packaging box but both are in VGC and look like new. Is this any good ? Can I sell it on ebay and someone can use it without the card, or is it useless without the card ?

What makes you think I've a problem with Carr, Jonny ? I don't care who spots good players for the club, and Carr deserves praise as Stevie has said, but as I said its a bit early yet, in view of his unremarkable past, to put him in the Peter Taylor or Bill Shankly just yet. I also think its premature to think that he is so good that the club can continue to sell its best players and rely on him to find these players, which I think is what people are thinking will happen, but thats another story.

Carr had nothing to do with the signing of Ba, so that doesn't really work. That's my point. We all know he wasn't involved in that deal but we still managed to sign a quality player. I'm sure equally we'll sign a failure or two on his recommendation. Fwiw I think he's doing a very good job so far but the overreaction is ridiculous. The way some people are on here, Carr could recommend Kris Boyd to us and they'd be all "well he knows more than us like so I have every faith he's going to come in and score bucket loads"! FWIW here is his managerial record , presumably he signed lots of quality players hence such fantastic achievements. I'm not knocking the bloke, he's found some good players, but we can all do that. absolutely correct. How come such a genius has remained undiscovered for decades, and failed as a manager earlier in his career ? I liken this bumming to that of the knee jerk reactions to results this season in spite of the limited ambitions of the club. When Graham Carr has a scouting record anywhere near that of people like Peter Taylor, Bill Shankly or Kevin Keegan then people can kiss his arse to such levels.
