How did Newcastle do the week you were born
NJS replied to Christmas Tree 's topic in Newcastle Forum
Should never have taken place (the match not your birth) - there were gale force winds and I'm sure the coppers twisted the arm of the H&S bloke to allow it as midday on a bleak Sunday was better for them than a Wednesday night job. I was dying from alcohol poisoning from a party of the Saturday night - the weekend sticks in the memory due to the derby and what I got at the party -

I was born on an Easter Saturday and we lost a double header against Leeds on the Good Friday and Easter Monday 1-0 and 2-1 (Division 2) -
Absolutely ridiculous to sell it as the new Golf GTI when its £40k.

There isn't much denial in the world that he can be a dippy hippy shit at times - as well as a sanctimonious cock. Thing is for me the music always more than made up for that - if they have faded and can't recapture it I hope he has the sense to "retire" from annoying people as well as I'd like them to be known/remembered for the right reasons (imo of course).

I highly doubt you can substantiate that claim. Fair enough there was some blatant plagiarism in the way one or two tracks were wrote & mixed on The Resistance but beyond that your point holds no water. Can you make any 'fair' comparisons between a Queen album and say...Showbiz,Origin of Symmetry, Absolution & Black Holes & Revelations? I'm just interested as a fan of music and a musician how you can bypass the thoughts of the music press & public to spout out such unmitigated rubbish. Biiiiiiiite I think its more of a notion of the bombast/high dramatics that generate comparison with Queen than the actual music.

There was one inflatable which resulted in a scuffle which was dealt with be security. The setlist was a little strange but I don't see how you couldn't call it a hits set but overall I thought they were a bit lacklustre and that's obviously from a fan - the encore version of With or Without You was shocking. Maybe they are getting old - I think they all turn 50 this year and not everyone is a Rolling Stone.

Morrissey's looking like an old cunt like.

Fucking hell, I know Ashley is a cunt but if you want to go down that route you would have to talk about Shepherd and his relationship with Willie McKay.

In the US there's Coachella. Benecassim in Spain, Rock Am Ring (which has a sister festival I think) in Germany.

Did something I've never done before earlier - caught a bus in London - Friday pint venue was 20-25 minutes walk away so bussed it - quite civilised all in all.

A sensible, semi-civilised ratio? I know other countries like Canada have similar "availability" without that many Columbines so it isn't that simple but I'd rather live in a country where guns are seen as extemely rare commodities. If you want to quote the US constitution I think its pretty clear the intent is twisted - "as part of an organised milltia" is the prase that's always left off - the intention was to allow citizens to oppose an armed government tyranny.
-
I do know that at the time of the Waco seige, there were 3 guns for every citiizen in Texas - obviously Texas is an extreme but still taking the piss.

Good Break into someone's house, all bets are off IMO. All this if you put barbed wire on your fence without a sign and someone gets cut you can be sued malarkey, is nonsense. That encourages the American pov though where everyone has a gun under their pillow. I think burglars are scum and deserve the full weight of the law but I don't think they deserve to die. Do you consider burglary worthy of a death sentence? (irrespectibve of whether you support the death penalty for muder.) There's also the pov that if you have a gun and a "better fighter" burgles you that despite being armed you run the risk they'll grab the gun and kill you.

I can understand Martin's frustration of Pikey cunts trying to rob his house but the facts are he staked them out and sat with a shotgun waiting for them. He shot the bloke when he'd ran away, tripped and was lying there - he shot him in the back.
-
He didn't run. He didn't vault the barriers. He wasn't wearing a thick coat. All police lies.

oh fo sho I look at the Glastonbury line-up and am completely unmoved by it. Beyonce? What is this? T4 on the Beach? Headliners for Glastonbury should be quality Classic rock/stadium acts and modern acts of the same ilk. Led Zeppelin and Muse. The Who and Radio Head. etc. Beyonce, Coldplay and U2? give me a fucking break. I would say U2 are pretty much a stadium act. I missed out the word quality... sorry Well you mentioned Muse who I quite like and have seen and they aren't on the same planet as U2. The others are on the same planet but not to my particular taste.

Need a "Never touched any drug ever, but don't think less of people who have" option for me. However I completely accept the argument that alcohol could/should be classed as such and is probably worse than cannabis.

Yeah it's a bit too eclectic for me though I think yours and my tastes differ. Reading is definitely my favourite "ethos" musically.

There's an element of "box ticking" for Aussie immigrants and a lot of posh/rich British kids which puts me off. We had an Aussie PM a few years ago who was using the UK as a base for touring Europe and was off somewhere every weekend who went and much to my delight it was one of the wettest recent ones. I'm too old and too soft to handle the camping/squalor - prefer Reading in a hotel or V.

I wouldn't go that far but it is interesting to speculate what would have happened if "a mug" hadn't been found in 2007. Pisser is it might have meant the Arabs would have bought us a year later instead of City.

keep an odd knife in the kitchen drawer to place on him after you've beaten him svagely There was a lad I knew who I used to go to the matches by train a few years ago who became good mates with one of my mates who made the NE news when he got hold of a burglar. He hit the bloke with a hammer "he had handy as he'd been doing some DIY" and came across in his interview as a fine upstanding citizen driven to desparate measures to protect his wife and kid. He told us the truth at the next match - he'd seen the bloke climbing over his back yard wall and got his hammer out and pretty much hit the bloke as soon as he opened the back door he'd forced. The bloke was obviously hurt pretty badly but not life threatening. As I said it was the contrast between his TV interview persona and the heed the ball we knew that provided the amusement.

Threads like these tend to have people who assume they are hard and will be able to cope with burglars - unfortunately I'd guess most of us would be pretty terrified especially if there was more than one of them. I also wouldn't necessarily fancy getting stuck in to desperate junkies. On baseball bats/ golf clubs etc I'd always thought you would have to have a good explanation as to why you had such a thing to hand but Manc Mag is probably right that its case by case.

I fucking hate the BBC's coverage of festivals - "exclusive" acoustic sets in their tent while bands are playing live. They have 2 channels at least (more with the red button) so should just have cameras at each stage all day and all night. (Not cool I know but I'll be watching U2)
