  1. I used to go everywhere by train in the early 80s so I've certainly seen quite a bit but have only had to get involved on a couple occasions for self-defence. It was always obvious who took it really seriously and I think the police categories I've read about are about right. I certainly knew and was friendly with some of the daft lads from that time and in some ways its sad to see them still acting like that at around my advanced age. Some of them were sound and despite propoganda did love the club and football but some were fucking horrible. Anybody who does anything now with the combnation of CCTV, banning orders and stupid sentences is beyond stupid.
  2. RIP Stuart. Well said - still one of my favourite bands. Looking at the map I wouldn't necessarily brag about being equivalent to Bangladesh.
  3. I've now read a few of his jibes and think they were all pretty tame - any celebs that complained really need to look at themselves. Does Downey think nobody knows about his problems or does he just think you shouldn't be allowed to joke about it?
  4. He looked to me like he may be decent but at the same time looks like he has been out for a while. Again in two minds - the hat-trick may have taken the pressure off but on the other hand might mask his averageness generally. I'd still try and get a new striker - and look at shipping out 1 or 2 like Xisco.
  5. It was deliberate handball Stevie, not the elbow. And I meant the way Nolan "blocked" the goalie not anything Viduka did. Nolan did fuck all, and it looked like it was for an elbow from where I was. I agree he did nothing but that's what the call was - the commentators also confirmed that Webb had said it was for handball.

  7. I thought our best hope yesterday was that they were going to be too wound up and try too hard - maybe the latter has been a factor in the two games and that effort has just been channeled completely wrongly. Something must be up because their results in general suggest they do have a decent side.
  8. Going by the two games against us, the manager of any team that finishes below them should quit out of shame.
  9. I've said before that that disallowed goal was because he was under orders after we'd scored a similar goal against Boro and I think his performance yesterday was influenced by standing orders on Barton. I don't blame Barton that much for egging some of the tackles on him because by any normal standards they were yellows. His yellow card for handball was a fucking joke and I'd love to know if the cunt has ever booked anyone else for it. I switched on the Spurs game and within a minute a Man U player had done a much more deliberate hand to ball job and not a word was said - funny given how free Dean was with the cards for Rafael. I said yesterday Barton should change his name but I think we should double bluff the referees association/FA and get all our players to change their name to JB just to make a fucking point.
  10. Never rated Harper, slightly disappointed that Krul hasn't lived up to early promise. Give Forster a chance or get someone new in imo.
  11. That happened before iirc - last time out one of them "gestured" at Given on the pitch after the goal - nowt said and of course it's gotten worse this time around. "inherent morality"
  12. I agree to an extent but it's the old argument of whether a striker who holds the ball up and makes life difficult for their defence but is absolutely shit at scoring is worthwhile - on balance I don't think he is.
  13. I'm not saying they won't end up above us but I have to say if they do finish within touching distance of the top then the next person who says its the best league in the world should be fucking shot on the spot.
  14. It's the missed chances to get the second that's cost us - paying for having shit strikers.
  15. Pisser but on the bright side you'd think they'd won the league.
  16. Going against the tide but I thought Smith did well before he went off.
  17. If I was Barton I'd change my name by deed poll - stop cowards who are obviously under orders to treat him differently to all other players. An hopefully to jinx the cunt can I just repeat again that Shola Ameobi is absolutely fucking shit.
  18. We did a big system upgrade last October which involved late nights and weekends with hotels/take-aways all on expenses and the best scran we had was from a Syrian Kebab shop at the bottom of Shoreditch High St. It broke the myth that Kebabs are only edible with copious alcohol on board.
  19. I always loved when our "indiscretions" of recent years were repeated by them but suddenly became different - The drive by BB shootings and the porn vid being the best examples although Titus' latest run in with the law was the most recent. They love their history so it would be simple to answer this underlying morality jibe with a question - have NUFC ever been found guilty of illegal payments?
  20. To save me from watching the film, can anyone tell me why/how the Earth is ran by Apes when Mark Whalberg gets "home" at the end of Planet of the Apes - just watched the last 2 minutes and its bugging me. (Can't imagine anyone being bothered about being spoiled).
  21. I get the point of the thread but I still would.
  22. As I mentioned at the time the LD campaign where I live was entirely based on "Labour can't win so the only way to stop a Tory is to vote for me" - doubly pathetic given the coalition.
  23. I just think the current system is unfair. Labour's votes per seat ratio compared to the Tory's and especially the Lib-Dems just isn't democratic to my mind. Obviously you have to be careful about the details of any system which replaces the current one but I would really prefer one vote to equal exactly that across the country as a whole in a general election. It seems ridiculous to me that someone living in a marginal has a more valuable vote and a far greater say in the outcome of the election than someone in a safe seat. They sell the idea of an MP representin an area which imo is a barrier to true PR. Again I'm in two minds as I know a couple of lads who lost their jobs at Inetrconnect in SS a few years ago who received excellent help from Milliband - whetehre that help would be allocated to some regional level of representative is the big question for me.
  24. My natural instinct is thet PR sounds right but even if ranking is voluntary the I'd struggle - if your second vote isn't one of the other two main parties then it's just s wasted as now. If I'd voted liberal as second choice last year then it may have swapped one Liberal for a Tory - the question is would that have made any difference?
  25. Ali had his wedding (re-)blessed at the mosque in Sooth Shields I think. And aye, Jimmy Carter was around then as he was still president when he came. Waved to a mate of mine from his open top bus on the way.
