Ok folks, think I might be getting a tablet and the Wife was maybe going to get me one for Fathers Day, soooooooo ......... Any recommendations? I must admit I'm swaying towards the Kindle HD fire as it seems to me to be just as good as most, cheaper than most and would have the bonus of having all my amazon stuff on it already. Anyone got one? Am I making a mistake getting one? Does it read as well as the original kindle for books?

Layman's terms please! :D

Nexus 7. Don't get the Amazon Fire, all review comparisons with the Nexus 7 come down heavily in the Nexus's favour.

Amazon have fucked about with the Android software to try and lock you into buying stuff from them. Getting the Nexus 7 would give you an unbastardised version of Android and none of the Amazon restrictions.

Not to mention it's just a better specced tablet.

Agree with what Gemmill says.

Got the Nexus for my mother a few months back. Its a very tidy little device. Will handle just about anything you throw at it without a problem. Highly recommended. If you do get it make sure you get the latest version because there were a couple of them going about last I checked.

Yeah they updated it at the back end of last year, but there was very little fanfare, so it was confusing as to which version you were getting if you were ordering off sites like Amazon. I had to try and work out for my sister which one she'd been sent.

I'd imagine that's less of an issue now though.

Agree with what Gemmill says, get yourself a Nexus as they are by all accounts far superior to the Kindle tablets.

Got my dad one for Christmas and he loves it.
