All,

Lately, as you may have noticed things have been a little "fraught" to say the least however there is no excuse for us as fans and forum members to drop our standards and post racist or sexual abuse.

We've always felt that we dont need to monitor people on here and we know that we are a bit more 'raw' than the likes of our friends at N-O however at the moment we also know that all of these boards are monitored by the press to pull soundbites. With that in mind it is a good idea to tone down our posts so we dont fuel any more of the "thick abusive geordie" stereotypes that they like to portray.

We dont expect only nice posts and if somethings shite say its shite, if you think they're a twat say they're a twat but it would be preferable if we didnt make assumptions on people because of their name, race etc and start entire conversations on whether a certain journalist is carrying more than a notebook in their backpack!

You know the sort of stuff we're talking about and you yourself know if you are prone to that kind of comment. This isnt a temporary thing, all Mods and Admin here agree that this kind of posting has no place on this board, not now while we're in turmoil or in 5 years time when we're flying high :snakehips:

Things have gone past us lately due to the higher demand, numbers of posts and the fact that we all enjoy posting as well as moderating but now we will be getting tough on these kind of posts, there will be no warnings on these things. If you post that kind of stuff then we will put you on Posting Moderation for a period of time (that means that you cannot post anything without one of us agreeing the post first) this will mean your post could take hours to appear and may look mothing like what you meant to say. These will be anything from an hour or two to give you time to go away, calm down a bit and rethink your posts through to a number of weeks for persistent offenders.

Persist too much though and we will simply ban you. Other sites get called for their attitude to these things but maybe they have the right idea, personally I dont think so but the answer lies somewhere between the two, allow users to be the adults they are and use naughty words at times while ensuring none of us come out looking like tossers.

We've let things get to this stage and thats our (Admin teams) fault therefore nobody is being banned or moderated for anything that has already been posted, a number of posts have been edited this morning to remove things and if others exist they too will be amended as soon as we spot them but as of now these rules are in place. Anything posted after the time of this will be subjected to the above.

Oh and if you bunch of c*nts could refrain from using the word c**t then we'd seriously appreciate that too  (Stevie Im looking straight at you here!!!!)

Thanks

Totally agree tbh and have always made a point of saying it's out of order, not least for the reasons you mention. :snakehips:

This may prove to be trickier.

I must have missed most of it. A few unintentional racist comments here and there but on the whole things are okay.

Not too sure about this 'c' word business. It's a common word that doesn't get used much, but we seem to have a bit of a hang up about it. I'd be interested if people on here are genuinely bothered about it's use (provided it doesn't appear in every post)?? We all know Cath finds it exceedingly irritating, but do people really have an issue with it, or just how often it's used? Maybe I have just been missing how often it has been used recently?? (apart from that recent thread from the wum which needed repeated use of the word imo. Hey, maybe I'm wrong on that as well?? Genuine question, btw)

And while we're at it, I wouldn't want Stevie banned. The racism is out of order but apart from that I think we all agree he's a top poster.

Maybe we should just ask for his betting advise to be banned?? :snakehips: Then again, leave it and bet the other way??

Know when to walk away and know when to run.... :icon_lol:

I have noticed more thread pages falling foul of our porn filter at work - it doesn't bar the c word per se but some of the contexts have meant they can be blocked.

Seperate to that I enjoy Stevies rants but I think he has stepped over the line a couple of times lately - no offence meant Stevie.

Has there been an e-mail from the guy in question, or his representatives?

no, this is not a result of anything specific happening or any complaint. It's merely the fact that all admins & mods agreed we need to keep things a bit friendlier than they are at times.

This is something I'm looking at now, I think a lot of work filters stop TT which goes a way to explaining why it can be quiet here at times. We may see a new board appearing under a different domain (but still being the same database) which incorporates hefty word filters to make it more work friendly. so while at work you may post under otherforum.com and toontastic from home but all posts will appear to all.

Well I don't know why this has been directed at me. I have never really took the piss out of anyone on here, and if I've offended anyone I apologise. Also I've never said anything catagorically racist, and I will stop saying cunt if that's now a banned word.

Stevie I was referring to some of your comments on arabs, indians and chinese - obviously jokey comments about curries and camels are okay by me but some did go a tad too far. I don't think they were categorically racist - just things probably intended as jokes which slightly failed.

Go fuck yourself man, you can't censor me!

(but I agree standards have been slipping)

Snakey I don't like the C word appearing in every thread, not because I find it particularly offensive, but instead I think it's over-used on here. The trite saying that swearing is an indication of a small vocabulary is wide of the mark imo. I do think that repeated use of words diminish their impact though and if you're using that word to describe the guy who sits behind you at the match and moans, the girl who turned you down, your dog, the owner of your football club, the opposition player, the bank manager, Jeremy Harding, Gungha Din, another poster on the board, anyone who disagrees with your politics, anyone who agrees with your politics, your dad, your doctor, policemen, etc. etc. etc. it gets a little diluted.
