Toon Vs West Brom

I thought they played us off the park 2nd half, couldn't believe it when he took Martins off for Xisco, not sure there is enough room for Shola and Xisco together.

We arent going to be Brazil all of a sudden. Great 1st half, not so great 2nd half. Duff looked class and Jonas will only get better. We are slowly dragging ourselves out of this mess

a massive 3 points, but we could be straight back in the brown stuff this time tomorrow night.

martins really is shit and i really don't know why the fans love him. when owens back martins should be the one getting dropped and not ameobi.

duff, jonas and beye played really well and barton and ameobi were decent. guthrie wasn't in the game once again.

Result was more important than the performance tonight. We looked good in the first half but very, very dodgy in the second, something which I can only attribute to lack of confidence. Hopefully tonight will act as the catalyst like Fulham at home did last year and we'll improve. Villa at home isn't the easiest of games next though.

Special mentions go to Beye (looked like his old self barring the miss), Duff (looked like his Blackburn/Chelsea self) and Jonas (only player we have who looks like he might create something). I was also very impressed with Colo until that slip which led to the goal. Barton looked okay too.

Taylor and Ameobi were pish poor. Martins wasn't too good either despite his goal. I really hope Owen is back for the Villa game.

lol fucking hell talk about the most fickle fans

Now ameobi should be starting ahead of martins

some people really have there moments on here

but good god he scores a couple for first time in 2years and wins a couple of headers, apart from that was the same old shola

and now he starts ahead of the lad whose half fit still scores and did 10x more running... madness

and martins did what he was supposed to... someone put a good cross in he put it in the net

the less balls that get played to his feet with back to goal and 25yards away the better, let alone knock downs

dumb irish twat. martins is shit and it's obvious you have never seen him play. martins and owen can't play in the same team unless we play 433. ameobi has also been the better player out of the two lately and doesn't deserve to be dropped

Sorry but Ameobi was woeful today. Martins always looked much more dangerous and despite his lack of a first touch/height/ability to finish i'd have him ahead of Stroller.

A few goals doesn't mask the fact that the lad isn't a footballer. Athlete? Maybe. Footballer? No.

Oh, and i'll apologise to Ant for misreading his post.

They are both absolute clowns who can't even play a 5 yard ball to a teammate - Martin's only plus is the odd spectacular goal (though a distant memory). They both should be dumped but unfortunately Xisco is fucking shit as is Carrol which as I said leaves Viduka and Owens as the only decent strikers we have. Pisser is 40 games between the two of them would be a miracle.

no it was aimed at triggy's

better outta the two lately? what all two fucking games are you taking the piss?

jesus your easily pleased, was was the same old shola bar the getting his head on things

his "pass" to beye was a fcking shot

he fell over the ball in the 2nd half, and he was as per normal trudging around

as for owen and martins not being able to play in the same team, hardly bloody matters, owens going be injured as normal for 1/2 of any season anyways

Martins got one decent ball played to him, he put it in... nough said

his passing was crap, but hardly mattered

"viduka decent striker" in the same sentence... did i just go back 3years in time?

jesus wept

either way he's done and dusted and tbh was halfway there when we signed him, wont be kicking a ball for the foreseeable future so not point mentioning him

He scored 7 last season in 26 games, whilst making a few goals.

Pretty ''decent'' to me.

I would also add that Martins was up to his usual trick of coming back to "help" the team and trying to dribble his way out of his own half which nearly always ends in him losing it - that's why it wasn't a bad idea within the flow of this game to take him off (though we may as well have played with 10 with Xisco).

god knows

either way no matter the lineup or peoples opinions on who should start and who is better.

It's going to take a seriously bloody good performance whatever the lineup to get something against villa

We'll need him at the end of the season as we did last year - if you don't recognise how good he is when he does play then I despair.

Viduka does a thankless task. IMO he's still the best striker in the league with his back to goal and some of his touches towards the back end of last season were sublime. He made half the goals Owen and Martins scored by being able to flick to onto them.

He's a great player, it's just a shame he's always injured.

Fucking hell that was absolutely woeful, well the second half was. They were there for the taking first half, then absolutely awful tactics in the second from Kinnear, absolutely awful, which allowed them to get back in. But still, a much needed three points.

I do honestly think tonights performance was down to lack of confidence. If we'd played tonight like we did against Citeh we'd have hammered them but the lose to the Mackems obviously had an effect on the team. Hopefully we'll pull together against Villa and get a draw (Because I can't see us getting a win!)

I hope we win, but also win in a pleasant and uplifting way. ie not 1-0 with an own goal 2 minutes from time.

So much for that then. Seething.

If we play a whole 45 minutes like that against Villa too (which I'm guessing we will), we could be up 3-0 at the break and still lose.

To me it was the like the early Keegan home games last year - a team with no confidence in a feedback loop of nervousness with the crowd. I hope it will improve as we get more results though Villa will be tough.

Having said that I don't think Villa will be as passy as West Brom which may give us a chance - I would take a point though and then look forward to two winnable games after that.
