I'm not saying that's my preference, I just think that CH will adopt a 'safety first' approach with a low scoring draw as our ambition. Routledge would appear from the bench when/if we went 2 down. This isn't based on anything other than a pessimistic hunch, mond you so maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised.

Yep, gotcha.. I have the same sort of pessimistic hunches. The kind that sees Smith replace Guthrie, and Barton on the right. <shudder>

I still wouldn't back that team to get a point though.

Yep, though wouldn't have backed us in 2008 either!

Interestingly this was our side for the 2008 match...

Newcastle: Given, Beye, Taylor, Coloccini, N'Zogbia, Milner, Butt, Guthrie, Gutierrez, Duff, Martins

Subs: Harper, Jose Enrique, Bassong, Smith, Geremi, Edgar, Donaldson.

N'Zogbia was played at left back with Enrique on the bench. Milner on the right, Guthrie and Butt in the middle with Jonas on the left and Duff in behind Martins up front. Not exactly what I'd call a strong side... though Beye is a lot better than Perch and Milner is a much more complete player than Routledge.

It was a relatively weak Manchester United side with no Ronaldo or Tevez.

Man Utd: Van der Sar, Brown, Vidic, Ferdinand, Evra, Fletcher, Carrick, Scholes, Giggs, Campbell, Rooney

Subs: Kuszczak, Neville, Rafael Da Silva, O'Shea, Evans, Gibson, Possebon.

I think I'd prefer our chances with the 2008 side frankly :D

I think he'll go with the formation he used last year, same players, etc. He tends to play it safe:

-----Harper

R. Taylor -- Williamson -- Colo -- Enrique

Routledge--Smith/Barton--Guthrie--Gutierrez

-------------------Nolan-----------

-----------------Carroll

I suspect we'll have a better idea of what he'll go with after the Rangers game. He'd be mad if he did anything but use his first choice side in their positions in the last run-out before season proper starts.

I reckon CH will play Barton on the right instead of Routledge. We'll have no attacking intent whatsover, hoping to slot one in from a set piece via Big Andy. In other words Allardyce's tactics - 5 man defensive midfield and a big lad upfront trying to win corners. I expect we'll lose 3 or 4 nil.

We'd deserve to go down if that were the case. God what a depressingly dour season this is looking likely to be...

At least we have Barton, he's as good as anyone in the league.

You'll need the two scousers Barton and Nolan. If they stay fit you'll be okay. Scouse power keeping Newcastle in the prem. Don't know why some silly twats on here have a go at Liverpool when we keeping Newcastle afloat.

He likes Reading too :scratchchin:

Oh I see :icon_lol:

So he's one of those fans.

Follow my local team, support Newcastle.

Now fuck off you burger-flipping, insidious little oik.

McDonald's actually do not flip burgers, the grills are double sided which means no flipping is to be done.

Kevin will your bird/fella still love you when you flip burgers mate?

Least I have a job you inbred scouse twat. Re the burger flipping: see above.

Agreed, but I can't decide over Nolan or Barton as CM and as bad as he is at least Ryan Taylor has Prem experience. Really think Perch would be thrown in the deep end if we started with him against a club of Man Utd's quality.

Kev I've got a job mate I'm a comic I work on the boats silly twat

I think this is the thread you're looking for.

Your stereotyping of Liverpudlians is an even more tedious 'joke'.

Wey, swap em' over then :icon_lol: ...It'll likely be Nolan or Barton though....just got a bad feeling that Barton's gonna get kicked all over until he loses his rag....so it could be Nolan....maybe the tash will remind him he's no longer 16...!
