When will you go bald?

The dating device comes courtesy of Dr Adolf Klenk, a hair loss specialist associated with the Alpecin research institute in Germany.

His calculator asks the reader a series of questions and then, based on the answers given, predicts the likelihood of possible balding and the approximate age at which it may happen.

If you are feeling brave, you can even upload a picture to see what you would look like with no hair.

Baldness affects men - and some women - of all ages and income brackets so being rich will not keep someone's hair on - although, as with Elton John and Wayne Rooney, it can help with the regrowth.

The most common form of hair loss is androgenic alopecia, which is genetic.

"It's not a disease so there isn't a cure," Alpecin spokesman Rick Guttridge told Sky News Online.

"But what you can do is treat the condition, with medications to boost your hair.

"What we have discovered is testosterone has a negative effect on hair loss ... the testosterone makes the energy in each hair follicle run out sooner so the more testosterone a person has, the sooner they will burn out of their energy and the hair will drop out sooner."

The company says it has discovered caffeine helps to balance out the effects of the testosterone but warns against drinking endless cups of coffee because "the amount you would need to drink to stimulate follicle growth would be toxic to your system".

While 80% of baldness is due to hereditary factors - if you want to keep a full head of hair, choose your parents carefully - other points need to be taken into account, one of which is stress.

Stress levels have become so high we are now facing a "double life crisis", the first in our 20s and 30s, the second - the more traditional one - in our 40s and 50s, Rick Guttridge says.

"There are a lot of stressed out people out there and stress again has this negative effect on the hair and the energy within that.

"So if we can help to reduce stress, it's definitely an important factor in helping to maintain your hair for longer."

There is one other tip for someone wanting to keep their hair as long as possible and that is leave off the hat.

"The wear and tear on your hair makes it more likely to fall out."

Mine was 75 years

I have more friends that are going bald than arent. Some have accepted it gracefully, some look like clips with perfectly placed fringes that start halfway up their head.!

I'm going spectacularly grey instead. People seem to think I'm bothered by it but I honestly couldn't care less. Getting a grey beard too

Also, you know you're getting old when the hairdresser asks you if you want your eyebrows trimmed.

Or worse when ye pullin hairs oot ya nose once a week. I've got 3 grey hairs, they're just there on their own like Fulham's away support, had them for about 4 years, no signs of any more yet.

A mate got asked that recently (33years old).

He said no.

He should have said yes. They're an abomination.

You totally bald, Fishy?

No, but I shave most of it off anyway as I'd only be kidding myself. Don't want that band of hair around my bonce, making me look like an idiot.

Haven't gone entirely slap, just between blade 0-1 depending on mood.

I've a couple of mates in trouble.

One has been getting the horseshoe look since he was 18, but it slowed down a lot. He says if he shaves it he's look like an alien(weird head shape), so he's clinging to what he's got. Very noticeable if he has gel in it-not at all bad otherwise.

The other used to shave his head and it looked well, but seems intent on getting his last remaining days with a bit of length in it. It looks mental.

I got rid of my long hair when it started to recede. Whereupon it stopped receding. ;) Probably for the best though.

My Dad and my Bruv went very thin on top by 35ish. My son is going to be the same I fear! But I like I say to him...luckily he's good looking and slim so keep the hair shaved short and the girls wont mind!

I do not take after my Dad and brother however (thank god)! and I actually have a NEW fringe growing

I've invested in a nose hair trimmer. Had to be done... was becoming a chore plucking the stray long ones.

Aye I've got one of them but the name's a giveaway... it trims. Leaves stubble up your nostrils which is almost as bad.

On a similar topic, I once thought it a good idea to trim my armpit hair... and one of the fuckers started to ingrow. Now that is pain! Try shoving your middle finger as hard as you can bear into the depth of your armpit and still the discomfort is nowhere near.
