People seem to be considering our wage limit from 4 years ago.

There's an extra £600m in the league every year.

Teams that were threatened with relegation now have their massive increase in prize money and their guaranteed prize next year.

£85k - £100k is one third of Rooney's weekly salary and is going to be the going rate for some very average players.

...Especially those available on a free.

Gomis For Free - £100k/week - 4 yrs - Total £20.8m

Other £10m Striker - £65k/week - 4 years - Total £23.5m

Cheapest option

Aren't you neglecting the effect it may have on resale potential.

It would be completely nonsensical to sign Gomis on £100k a week when we could sign Andy Delort on a contract worth about £25k a week. He is a player in the mould of Cristiano Ronaldo, if he was Ligue 2 standard. 18 goals in 14 games this season. Gomis is a slightly more mobile Ameobi-type, but he lacks Shola's Geordie passion.

Probably go the way we went with Ba and offer a good wedge of the salary for appearances and offer a percentage of any sell on fee received to incentivise him to play for a move.

Makes deplorable sense.
