I find that's the the mid-point of these threads. What they always turn into is people moaning that they haven't heard of most of the bands mentioned. As if that's the fault of the people who have.

They aren't made up. The whole point of "Best of" lists is to share. Youtube them. You might like them.

Make it 51

Decemberists album has leaked

Hope it's good. I've been disapointed pretty much accross the board with all of the new stuff from my favourite bands this year. TV On The Radio's new one is better than their last but still a bit off the two before that. New Porno's is canny but not up to their best. Liars, Beck and Tune Yards are about the only ones who I've really thought ws up with their better stuff.

These threads always turn into people namedropping the most obscure pile of complete shite they can think of. It doesn't make you more interesting

Most of them have been reviewed by the Guardian and The Sunday Times

Nothing obscure about our quality broadsheets.

It's a 'best album' thread, meaning pick one. Not reel off 30 unheard of bands. People are that desperate that they haven't even stuck to the thread. I bet nowt named in here wins a best album award anywhere as well. Wonder why.

Almost as pretentious as the Whiskey thread.

Some of them already have won album of the year awards. Just about all of them feature in the tip 50s at the nme, guardian, moji, uncut etc

Its not pretentious anymore than saying film if the year might be something like Mr Turner rather than Transformers 4,

War on Drugs

Sun Kil Moon

Run the Jewels 2

Aphex Twin

Real Estate

I think Benji is a thing of beauty and will top a lot of lists. It's an absorbing listen and manages to make melancholy uplifting.

The War on Drugs is not everyone's cup of tea apparently but I love it. Think that will be there or thereabouts on most lists too.

Not kept up with a lot of releases in the second half of the year but RTJ 2 and Aphex Twin have managed to listen to a lot. Both great examples of their genres.

Overall, listened to a lot of good tracks off average albums this year. Great albums are a rarity nowadays as artists just don't make the effort anymore. A lot of electronic artists make very good albums but they just don't have wide appeal. The new Andy Stott, Leon Vynehall, Francis Harris etc are great listens but only if you like that sort of thing. The 5 albums listed above however, for me should appeal to a broad audience and deserve it.

I've made a playlist with those albums minus the War or Drugs cos I've already approved that recommendation earlier in the year.

Probably worth me mentioning that you're on a yellow card for Lone - Reality Testing. Picked it at random from your earlier list and nearly tore my ears off to make it stop.

That Lone album was approved by the 'Toontastic electronica committee' but like most stuff in that genre, it might not be to everyone's taste.

Depends on what you are looking for. Electronic music that evokes dark nights chewing my own face off in the corner of a dancefloor floats my boat. Not that the Lone album does that particularly. Aphex Twin does at times.

The Sun Kil Moon album only really makes sense when you listen to it all. Its a proper album.
