good ODI player. unconvincing in tests, particularly in England, where he became a walking LBW wicket and a figure of fun for the barmy army to mock. that's before they'd even started on him for being shit scared of ghosts at lumley castle

Think we had the measure of him the last few times we played against him.  Wasn't he always out LBW against us?

He was certainly a hell of a lot better than the players they have playing now.

Aye, playing across the line. Think he had bags of talent but should've had a settled batting position and probably bowled a bit more. Although he looked like he fucking hated bowling.

yeah, he always looked what you'd call a reluctant bowler.

and he was massively injury prone, which didn't help him, and which you wouldn't expect looking at the way he was built

His batting average in England is better than his career test batting average actually. He was canny shite in 2015 though, and I think, along with a few others, his head had gone.

It probably didn't help him as well that him and Clarke detested each other (sounds like a lot feel that way about Clarke) so he was never truly motivated.

If this pitch goes the way they think we're going to struggle to get anywhere near them this match.  It was a big moment Rashid dropping Kholi.  Think Cook has made a couple of iffy decisions starting Ansari with the spin and not having a better fielder in Rashid's position.

the spinners failed to impress, according to vaughny. too many short balls and full tosses and none of them able to tie up an end. only 2 maidens between the three of them says it all

Boycott made a good point on TMS about hard it is for spinners in India. How Murali and Warne both averaged in the 40s there (Murali's was the worse of the two).

Edit: looked it up and Warne's was 43.12 and Muralitharan's was 45.45

why is that, did he say?

they have a reputation for producing wickets that assist turn, but on all the recent tours i can recall they have tended to produce featherbed pitches that result in high scoring, boring test matches
