I'm going to Sheffield personally. Was going to go up to Glasgow, as it'd be more practical on a Saturday night - Sheffield is on a Sunday, so pulling a sicky on the 8th of December is very much on the cards.

Fact not opinion sloop john

'Tis opinion like. I'd say U2 are bigger, even though they're still naff. Actually, I can think of about a dozen bands who are bigger that Cerldplay.

The Rolling Stones, Radiohead, Oasis (sigh), Muse for a start.

Coldplay are just UK friendly, a worldwide band but very UK radio friendly.

yes but it does not validate anything about an artist. relativism, as i have said before, is a classic foil for bad arguments to hide behind.

My mate at work argued this point.

I pointed out that Coldplay were formed in 1997. Both bands in this time have released 3 albums.

Coldplays worldwide sales from these 3 albums amass to 30mill+, and U2's is half of this.

You can't really take U2's prior sales into consideration, wouldn't be fair considering the downloading era etc.

Muse, rofl. Stones - yesterday band, Radiohead, yesterday band.

So if you can't use popularity to judge an artist, other than opinion - what can you use?

Coldplay haven't really 'broke' America though have they?

They are famous there, fair enough.

Led Zeppelin & Pink Floyd broke America (and sold over 300 million albums there each)

The Rolling stones played to over a million people on a beach in Rio,

Will Coldplay ever get that? Will they fuck

Oh right, well The Beatles once had cult status in the 60s, so therefore no other band can be a big band today because they probably won't achieve that.

You're a fucking spastic buddy.

In a musical context.

Muse played Wembley stadium(their own two day festival) and when they did they really did something for rock and made bolder statements than Coldplay ever will.

Plus don't be blind to the fact that Coldplay wouldn't have been a quarter as big without all this 'Fairtrade/Poverty' malarkey.

Not really like.

A 20 page kid Rock thread is embarrassing.

Muse are infinitively better than Coldplay.

Ok of course they are.

Just not as popular or successful.

I'll take 30 million opinions ahead of some sweaty student mongs.

Thanks.
